ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:
  • The Coryphin is quite arguably the most powerful bomber in use with the Sith Empire. A single Coryphin has enough firepower to seriously threaten a Star Destroyer, carrying the ordnance of an entire wing of Detritus heavy bombers.
  • The Coryphin was designed to be as durable as a ship feasibly could be, with molecularly bonded armor for hull plating, a diatium capacitance array for anti-shieldbreaking work, and enhanced deflector shields to ensure the ship can sustain a heavy barrage of flak and laser fire.
Weaknesses:
  • The Coryphin handles like a brick. it is slow, unmaneuverable, and desperately in need of fighter support. While a Coryphin can likely tank the minimal weaponry of an interceptor, assault fighters will find it easy prey should it lack escort.
  • Aside from ordnance, the Coryphin has paltry forward firepower for a ship of its size - two HL-7 xasers are the equivalent of an interceptor. This is paltry, as even the lighter Detritus has more forward firepower.
Description: The Coryphin was originally designed for use by the Omega Protectorate as a super-heavy bomber design, but was ultimately a failure, with few if any units being produced for use by Protectorate forces. After languishing for decades, the Coryphin was completely redesigned as a super-heavy bomber for the Sith Empire, intended for use in situations when even the Detritus and Exodus cannot lay down enough firepower. Coryphin squadrons - the size of a wing, but classified as a squadron due to the ship's bulk - are easily capable of engaging Star Destroyer-class warships, even battlecruisers and dreadnoughts given their firepower. They are the first Defiance-built starship to utilize molecularly bonded armor in their construction, and have defenses unparalleled for a vessel still classifiable as a bomber.

That said, the ships do have the usual negative bomber traits - quite exaggerated, in fact. They are slow - not much slower than the Detritus, but slow nonetheless. As well, they are very difficult to maneuver. This would typically leave them prey to interceptors - but given the minimal armament found on such ships, they are capable of surviving such attacks. That said - even assault fighters are capable of outmaneuvering the ponderous target and getting it in its sights, though significant sustained firepower would be required to penetrate it.

[member="Vanessa Vantai"], something weird seems to be going on with the hyperlinks in this post, as I can't seem to access any of them. If you wouldn't mind checking on your end to make sure it's not a coding issue, I'd appreciate that.

I realize that this will be carrying a lot of weapons with an extreme armament rating, but this is far, far too many. As a recommendation, I'd probably eliminate exact references to the numbers of specific weapons being carried in this instance. Alternatively if you prefer more detail, you could reduce all carried ordinance in the ordnance racks and bomb bays to ten percent of their current number (you can round upwards for decimals: example: 1.6 would 2). Under-rack Ordinance bay, if you would reduce seismic charge deployers and bomblet generators to 2 each please.

I... honestly don't know. When I had the submission done, all the links were there - I'll just break them all, if I can. From what I can tell the links were somehow set to "Null" for some reason. Regardless, edited. [member="Gir Quee"]

The Coryphin is indisputably the most powerful bomber in use, not only with the Sith Empire, but in the galaxy as of the time of its introduction.
If you'd remove the reference to "indisputably". Others can make bombers just as powerful as this ship, and any existing bombers with "extreme" armament ratings are just as powerful as this ship.

These references need to be toned down considerably. While this bomber should have considerable firepower, this is too much, and it looks like something that could be used to brow-beat people into taking what I'd consider to be unreasonable amounts of damage.

This looks like it may be a holdover from the original, as this doesn't seem to currently have 4 xasers.
