TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
SPECIAL FEATURES

[*]Navigation:

[*]Defenses:

Strengths:
  • Ability to make nonlinear flights in hyperspace and Otherspace
  • Ability to land on planets
  • Ability to cross through interdiction fields
  • Long-range firepower
  • Can tractor items from a long distance away
  • Heavy point-defense
  • Large cargo capacity
Weaknesses:
  • Exposed command tower
  • Exposed missile launchers; if the missile magazines are penetrated, it will cause heavy damage to the ship, if not kill the ship outright - however the damage potential depends on how many rounds are left
  • Exposed ventral hangar
  • Slow, ponderous
  • Repulsorlift generator failures must be repaired in orbit
  • The tractor beam is much easier to escape away from standard turbolaser range
Description: After the events on Ossus, where it was found that the venerable Mateus-class carrier was of limited use at long ranges, as well as of being in limited use in situations where heavy-duty towing is required, such as asteroid attacks, a new elite carrier was designed around long-range firepower in mind, while retaining its ability to land on planetary surfaces and to service 10 squadrons of attack craft, with each squadron possessing its very own docking bay inside the ventral hangar to help foster squadron cohesion. In addition, a heavy long-range tractor beam enables it to tractor objects from further away, up to ranges equivalent to a long-range turbolaser range. However, it is recommended that tractoring beyond standard turbolaser range be done only on unpowered objects, because powered objects are more likely to escape a tractor beam past standard turbolaser range.

Even with all those heavy weapons, the Chernobog is still better-suited in a support role than as an active frontline combatant, despite the use of explosive-reactive armor. A Chernobog might be an elite carrier, but, as with virtually any carrier out there, artillery or not, it usually requires escorts in battle. In addition, the use of a HIMS allows it to penetrate interdiction fields. Due to the choice of outfitting explosive-reactive armor, and also the need to power all the weapons systems, not to mention large amounts of cargo and passengers, the speed and maneuverability undoubtedly suffers; carrying an entire corps and its supplies doesn't come for free. It also suffers of much of the same problems of its predecessor: an exposed superstructure, which is much wider and taller than on its predecessor, an exposed ventral hangar, and worse still, exposed missile launchers: if missile magazines are penetrated, they can potentially cause damage centered on the penetrated magazine, or worse still, kill the ship outright.
