Description: The Cheon building is home to the corporate offices of Daehan Industries Textile Division – their administrative offices, as well as the main engineers behind their research, development, and testing. The employees at this location work to develop anything from standard woven fabrics to high-tensile/reinforced textiles for blaster, ballistic, and stab protection. Products are not limited to clothing, but extend to include – concealable body armor, fabrics for protective suits (chemical/biological warfare), laminate materials for military shelters, protective coatings, ect.
The structure itself was built with a modern and sophisticated aesthetic in mind. There is an abundance of natural light, and an almost airy quality to the architecture. The goal was to create a functional research laboratory that is also appealing to the eye.The ground level features a small visitor’s center, conference rooms, employee cafeteria, and refreshers. As this part of the building is often frequented by clients, there is also a small show room to display samples of completed textiles. Access to the laboratory is located here on ground level, via a special lift that requires key card entry with very strict permissions.There are also stairways and lifts that open up to the administrative offices on the second floor, with several small meeting rooms for employee use. The top level is office space reserved for the research & development teams and engineers; access is restricted via card key and very limited. The laboratory itself is located on the basement level, and is equipped to perform various tests to ensure that the textiles function as intended. This is also where many of the protective coatings are created.
History: The Daehan Textile Division is a leader in the engineering and production of a variety of fabrics. Daehan often works in concert with partners in military, aerospace, medical, and law enforcement industries. While Daehan does offer basic fashion fabrics –natural and synthetic, the core business is technologies in technical textiles for protective applications. The Cheon building located on the edge of Sejong City, Seoul is equipped to perform the beginning stages of research and development, and thorough testing throughout the process. While this location is not a factory, and cannot manage the full-scale manufacturing, they do work closely with their textile mill. Daehan Industries has a good reputation throughout Seoul; the textile mill and research lab has contributed greatly to their notoriety and success.
