You should have let it go. Ala said through the Force, her head tilting to the side. Her expression clearly reading as if Isla should have thought of this herself.

"Vel and Mortin Telegrin were treated for blunt force injuries," Ala said before turning and setting off on her walk again. She spoke of the mother, and her child, who were thrown across the street by the impact of a Force push.

"It was the work of this woman you were chasing?" Ala said, eyes closing for a moment to take in the sound of the ocean, "this...pick...pocket."

"I fear that in three centuries, when you die, they will open you up and find Denon Dependency carved on your heart," Verity said, her voice laced with humor. "You know my view; it's a great big Republic and there is plenty of room for all of us to make our mark. Though somehow none of us seem to manage it as boldly and fashionably as you, Ayumi. But -- to be serious," she said. "I thought it was bang out of order the way that man went after you."

She paused a beat.

There was a reason she had not included Ayumi in her machinations against the Magister -- and Denon Dependency just about summed it up. He had behaved badly, and it would be only too correct for the Senator for Denon to want to get her own back. But Caesar's wife had to be above reproach -- and that went for all of the conspirators.

Verity hoped that Ayumi would understand, if her efforts came to fruition. But she supposed there were better places to contemplate that than under the sea on a faraway world. "I would like to hear more, if you have more to say. Well, listen to me, who am I talking to?" She gave an airy laugh.
