Maneuverability Rating: 15 [19 With Gravity Well Generator Active]

Strengths:
  • Heavy Weaponry: The Centurion packs a dedent punch, bearing the weaponry of a light destroyer still despite maintaining the expansive hangar compliment. Mostly due to its powerful Hypermatter Reactor.
  • Structurally Sound: While the hull itself is not as heavily reinforced as other Rendili Stardrive designs, the honeycombing of support struts through the decks and bulkheads to the hull itself mean the ship will not tear apart under fire. Though sub-systems and weapon emplacements are still at risk of being blown out.
  • Carrier: Designed to carry over nine starfighter squadrons, the Centurion may not be the leading powerhouse, though its impressive to still maintain its level of weapon banks, but it keeps a strong defense in the form of its supporting units.
  • HIMS not the Breaks: Immune to Gravity Well Generators itself as a result of its Hyperspace Inertial Momentum Sustainer, the Centurion class will not be pulled out of hyperspace right away after encountering an Interdictor field. Instead precious time can be bought for the Captain of the Centurion to exit hyperspace in a better position.
  • Gravity Well Generator Tricks: With the aid of its Gravity Well Generator, the Centurion class has several uses. Most obvious of which is the ability to prevent enemies from jumping to hyperspace, or pulling them from hyperspace by force. Another commonly used function of gravity well generators was to distort missile attacks and divert their course.
Weaknesses:
  • Gravity Well Generator Whoops: Well there's good points and bad points to having a Gravity Well Generator. While activated the Centurion's power output is cut down tremendously to keep its Interdictor Field online, a common trait for all Interdictor Craft throughout history. As a result, its speed, maneuverability, and firepower are all cut down by half while the system is online. Missile launchers as a whole cannot fire at all, or they would be caught in the mass shadow distortion and likely strike the Centurion itself.
  • Structural Weakpoints: Not really something any ship commander wants, but as a result of systems installed aboard the Centurion, the ship itself has a few sections of hull that are more lightly armored than others, leading to some systems being capable of being knocked out. Chief among them being the Gravity Well Generator, whose bubble housing prevents many weapon points from being installed around it, as well as being thinner to prevent obstruction of the mass shadow field.

Who Can Use This: The Galactic Republic, Certain Contracts

Description: By this time it is highly unsurprising that Rendili Stardrive would have spent the time to restore ancient designs to relevance in the modern period. Especially when said designs are most commonly from the point in history where the Founding Shipwright once supplied nearly all warships to the Galactic Republic. THe Centurion being no exception, having been designed as the replacement to Rendili's Inexpugnable class due to the larger vessel's high cost and upkeep despite its effectiveness as a Command Vessel, it was next in line to make a reappearance in the galaxy at large once again.

In a time of war where Interdiction Craft have become rare sights, the idea of converting the once mighty Battlecruiser into a greater support role came as a decision when Rendili engineers took to heart the Republic's roster of heavy attack ships already filling the navy. Thusly, designed to be the ultimate support ship, the Centurion line has been brought back as a heavy carrier, with a Gravity Well Generator installed along the Ventral decks, its visible bubble extending from the hull from which it creates a mass shadow effect to create an Interdiction Field to prevent enemy ships from escaping to hyperspace, or to pull said ships from hyperspace before they reach their intended destination.

However, concerned that the appearance of new Interdictor Craft would spark an arms race for other factions to rush to construct their own ships with Gravity Well Generators, Rendili Stardrive took a preemptive action by installing a Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainer on the new Centurion line. With this, the technicians of the still rising shipwright ensured that even should copycat Interdictors come to existence, the Centurion would not fall prey to the same systems it wielded. Any Captain aboard a Centurion facing a Gravity Well Generator will quickly find added time to position themselves more favorably before being pulled back to realspace.

And when not being the vessel employing the Gravity Well Generator card, the Centurion is capably armed with an array of heavy turbolaser and ion cannon batteries able to contend evenly with standard ships its size. Despite its well defended nature though, the Centurion does not boast a heavily reinforced hull typical of Rendili designs, a requirement of its various systems requiring less obstruction to function without interference. As a result, though its frame and bulkheads are honeycombed with support struts and additional pillars throughout the decks, the ship's sub-systems are more prone to being destroyed by direct enemy hits.

Adding this to the fact that ship practically becomes immobile and its firepower is cut in half when its Gravity Well Generator is active, a fact that afflicts all Interdictors throughout galactic history, and the Centurion can become rather pressed to defend itself in some instances. However, it is for this reason that it fills a primarily support role as a carrier, as its many supporting starfighter squadrons can provide defense for it and allied ships while its weapon systems are weakened. Though perhaps most Naval Commanders will find the Centurion desirable despite its weaponry being neutered during the times its Interdiction Field is online, as the Mass Shadow Effect causes missile fire to be diverted off course with the gravity distortion, and thus nearby ships and the Centurion itself are nearly invulnerable to missile fire, though they cannot use warhead launchers in return.

Despite its advanced array of systems, many believed the Centurion would not see the light of day. Designed and tested by Camellia Swift and Ayumi Pallopides prior to the galactic event that engulfed the galaxy and was quickly followed by a period of conquest by the factions that were, Rendili itself was conquered by the Sith and thus cut off from Republic spheres of influence. While many designs were smuggled out, the Centurion itself, unlike the Noblesse line, was never put into production just yet. As a result the Centurion went unnoticed for years, until the station operators of Rendili Stardrive's shipyards over Voss and Shri-Tal, locations within the Silver Jedi's domain, stepped forward to bring the design to the Republic, deciding what to do with the product line themselves based on the intentions for the design prior to contact being lost with their headquarters.

Now the Centurion is entering Republic ranks as a primary warship and support vessel. Integral to large fleet movements and skirmishes. Not least of all for its Gravity Well Generator and the technology along those lines it supports with it. Surpassing the iconic Immobilizer 418 which coined the term Interdictor for itself, even in regards to its use of Gravitic Amplitude Modulator to defy the Yammosk equipped Vong Warships.

Since when do dropships count toward the count?

I can go get plenty of subs where they don't even in the current iteration. They carry troops to the surface and ferry people back and forth, and people don't even properly reflect that in the rp which is a peeve of mine but that's beside the point. Dropships aren't space combat.

Regardless I changed it from squadrons to 8 shuttles total then. Since they aren't used as fighters, nor have I ever seen them abused as such in invasions, I hope this is ok so there is actual IC justification for troops to deploy from the ship.
