SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Biometric Activation: A new addition to some of the latest models, CDEF blasters feature a special grip which is designed to only unlock weapon systems once it detects the DNA profile of the agent it is assigned to. This makes it impossible for a CorSec officer's sidearm to be used against them.
  • Stun Setting: Like many blasters on the market, the CDEF comes complete with a state of the art stun mode capable of incapacitating even some of the more resilient species safely and reliably. As a tool of law enforcement, this setting sees significant use, and so it has the same dependable reputation.
  • Service Number Registry: Each blaster is assigned a serial number which is laser etched into the CDEF's internal systems, and each number is catalogued and tracked by an advanced CorSec database. This is not merely an anti-theft measure although recovery of stolen service weapons are a high priority, every incident report filed by officers is also imported to this same database along with a variety of other statistics all meant to give a complete picture of a particular blaster's use history.
STRENGTHS
  • Old Workhorse: The CDEF line of blasters has been the primary assigned CorSec service weapon for hundreds of years, known since the early days for its compact reliability and ease of maintenance. Now considered an antique, Corellian Arms continues to update the model each time there is an innovation in blaster technology.
  • Spring Reload: Perhaps the blaster's best known feature is its quick and efficient reload-ability. Compatible with most conventional power packs, a spring release rapidly ejects spent cells from the blaster's grip, allowing fresh cartridges to be loaded from below.
WEAKNESSES
  • Stopping Power: A primary flaw of the CDEF is its lack of stopping power compared to similar models on the open market. While some think of it only as a limitation, many CorSec officers appreciate this low intensity kill setting for its tendency to maim or cripple instead of outright terminate.
  • Overheat: Designed to stretch power packs for as long as possible, towards the end of each cell's lifespan the CDEF becomes less accurate and more prone to overheating, as its compact frame and limited cooling systems are overwhelmed especially under circumstances where the blaster is providing sustained fire over an extended period.
DESCRIPTION

The closest CorSec has ever come to a universal service model, while many agents take advantage of ancient legal statutes which allow personal sidearms to be used on the force as long as they conform to certain guidelines, some prefer the CDEF as a reliable (and free) alternative. Each new officer is assigned one and many use them as a backup piece if nothing else.

Despite this popularity in law enforcement circles, aside from a few deals with other planetary agencies, the model is very rarely seen in the hands of civilians. Every blaster is meticulously tracked and hunted for if gone missing, making it an easy way to identify both cops and cop killers. CDEF firearms are popular trophies among the criminal underworld, possessing one illegally marks a suspect as an enemy of CorSec.
