Intent: Expand upon Corellia Digital's catalog of communications hardware by venturing into vehicle-based (as opposed to personal) comm units.

Development Thread: If required

Manufacturer: Corellia Digital

Model: CD-9 Subspace Radio

Affiliation: Open Market

Modularity: Yes, a slicer could modify the comm unit to function as a false beacon, or anything else involving an antennae and power source.

Production: Mass Produced

Material: Duralumin (casing), Flexiplast, Agrinium (insulation), Monofilament Wire (antennae), Diatium power cell (emergency back-up battery)

Description: Intended for large transports and capital ships, the CD-9 is an updated ranger transceiver. Using patented Corellia Digital technology, the CD-9 has input ports for video, audio, and 3D holographic support (holoprojector required to view/transmit holographic data). 25 kilometers of aurodium monofilament wire is looped along a single section or multiple sections of the ship, then energized to provide the subspace antennae. The onboard computer has multiple processors to allow it to monitor specific frequencies while also retaining the capability to perform continuous scans across the electromagnetic spectrum. As per interstellar navigation and safety protocols, the subspace radio performs continuous scans of all frequencies designated as emergency use or distress beacons by default. When paired with an encryption key, such as the Corellia Digital CD-X, the radio can provide end-to-end secure communications.

The subspace radio's range is ~100 lightyears, barring interstellar phenomenon or unusually high levels of electromagnetic interference. Agrinium insulation provides a level of EMP hardening against ambient radiation or static discharge; however, a direct strike from an ion storm or other such directed energy weapon will require repair or replacement in order to restore full functionality. In case of emergency, the CD-9 includes a back-up Diatium power cell so that it is capable of broadcasting even when the ship's main power is off-line. In the event of catastrophic system failure, the CD-9 will automatically broadcast a continuous signal on the interstellar emergency channel. When broadcasting continuously, the Diatium power cell provides enough power for 30 days, as measured by a standard Coruscant rotation.
