First Reply Catch That Cat!

Location: Corellia - Coronet City

Corellia had a beauty all its own. The towering shipyards, with their endless scaffolding and colossal starships under construction, radiated a kind of strength that was solid, and reassuring. But that sense of security had started to crack. The Galactic Empire was drawing closer by the day, and the looming threat had people on edge. Many were already packing up, looking for safer sectors.

Pari wasn't staying long. She had always dreamed of seeing Corellia, and she wasn't about to miss her chance, especially not after Coruscant. Her time there had been cut short by Imperial interference, and she refused to let that happen again.

As she wandered through the city streets, her teak-colored eyes flicked from one sight to another, wide with curiosity. It was a little overwhelming with so much noise, motion, and life but in the best way. Like an adventure waiting to be unwrapped.

She crossed a busy street and strolled along a wide sidewalk, taking in the bustling sprawl. Food vendors shouted over each other, filling the air with the scent of grilled meats and sweet pastries. Artisans displayed handmade jewelry, trinkets, and flashy souvenirs for eager tourists. Pari grinned at the sheer energy of it all, just starting to wonder what to eat first

Then a sharp cry cut through the air.

"Fluffy, no! Come back!!!!!"

Pari turned just in time to see a small Loth-cat squirm out of a boy's arms and dart down the sidewalk, tail flicking in panic. The child lunged to follow, but his parents caught him just in time, holding him back from running into the street. He screamed and sobbed, trying to wriggle free.

Pari's heart twisted. She didn't hesitate.

She took off after the Loth-cat, weaving into the chaos of the city, chasing fur and a flickering tail into the unknown

Down a narrow alleyway stood a figure garbed entirely in black, a dark hood drawn high to shadow their features. In their arms, they cradled the missing Loth-cat, petting the creature with slow, deliberate strokes and whispering soft words that seemed almost too calm.

A semi-sheer veil draped over the upper half of their face, while a dark half-mask concealed the lower, leaving only a narrow band of eyes glinting in the dim light. Their frame was slight, yet the oppressive weight of black clothing lent them a presence that felt… wrong, somehow... like the absence of warmth.

The figure lifted their head, gaze locking on the girl who had just turned the corner.

Pari rounded the corner to see the runaway feline in the arms of a very odd looking young man. She smiled at him, relieved to see the creature was safe.

“Oh good you found him.”

She took a few steps forward, and noticed the cat was purring as the strange man pet him. Clearly this person was good with animals.

Just then they heard the little boys father yelling in a gruff voice close by.

“Fluffy! Here kitty! Damn cat get back here!!!”

At the sound of the man’s voice Fluffy went berserk, clawing and scratching to get free. If he managed this feat the tiny cat would dart under Pari’s legs and speed off down the alley and the adventure would continue.

Braze's grip was loose, and he let the critter scamper away. He looked to the shouting man. "Yelling only frightens them..." he murmured softly, looking down to the girl once more before glancing toward where the Loth-cat had gone. Braze missed the many little Loth-cats that had hung around the treehouse on Lothal. He wondered briefly if Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru had been taking good care of them... of course she was.

“Oh no..”

Pari watched calmly as the tiny creature bolted up the alley. She wanted to catch the critter and return him to the crying little boy, but in a city this large that was going to be a challenge.

“Hey… you seem really good with animals. Do you mind helping me look for Fluffy?”

Pari was worried something bad would happen if the small animal roamed around.

Braze regarded the little girl in silence. Her clothing told him exactly who she was, and the thought that she might be some one whom recognize him for his past crimes made hesitation rise sharp in his chest. Still, he wanted to help. In another time, he would have said yes without a second thought, but caution had become a habit, and a necessity.

After a brief, quiet deliberation, he inclined his head. "Yes, I can help you find little 'Fluffy'," he said gently. "But you shouldn't go running off on your own. The galaxy is a dangerous place… and these are troubling times."

As he spoke, he slipped the veil from his face, revealing soft jade-green eyes fillwed with an odd sence of calm melocholy and caution and yet just a touch of kindness... He tucked the cloth neatly into the top of his dark robes, and for a fleeting moment, the ornate hilt of his saber, its winding handguard gleaming faintly having caught the light beneath his cloak.

He began to follow in the direction the creature had gone, his steps unhurried, each one light , yet left no sound. His gaze turned back to the girl now and again, watchful without seeming stern. Beneath the shadow of his hood, his skin was pale as carved alabaster, his hair a fall of snowy white. And despite the gravity in his voice, he looked young still, perhaps in his mid-to-late teens, or at most a very young adult.

Pari was happy to hear that the stranger was willing to help. When he removed his veil her eyes lingered on the lightsaber for a moment until they set off in the direction that Fluffy had ran.

“Thank you for helping.”

She spoke with sincerity, though his tip about wandering off was odd. Pari was a nomad so all she did was wander. True though she used to have traveling companions and at the moment she was alone.

“I saw the hilt of your lightsaber. Are you a Jedi? I have been traveling to different Jedi enclaves. “

Pari had not created her lightsaber yet, though she did wear a kyber crystal around her neck.

"You're welcome," he offered quietly. "Kitties are often spooked by sudden or fast movements. They don't like loud noises, and they typically don't enjoy direct eye contact with people they don't know." His voice was gentle, the words meant to inform rather than scold, as he explained what was typical of little fluffy creatures.

Her next question stirred a small pang of guilt in his chest. In truth, he should have been with his Padawan, Kaelos Vryn Kaelos Vryn , imparting what wisdom he'd gathered. But that path was closed to him now, and he wasn't certain if Ko Vuto Ko Vuto could ever forgive what he had done on Coruscant.

From beneath his mask, he offered the girl a faint, world-weary smile. "I like to think I am," he replied softly, neither confirming nor denying outright. "The temple on Lothal might be a good place to add to your pilgrimage. They have plenty of Loth-cats there. I'm sure Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el and Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru would love to show you around... if you like Flowers and the oocean there's a very secluded one far out in the unknown regions... I'm sure Knight Loomi Loomi might beable to help you find it, " His voice took on a distant note, as if recalling the place in vivid memory. "It was peaceful, last I was there... I bet if you find Tilon Quill Tilon Quill you'll learn a whole lot about other enclaves and temples. "

Pari loved animals and was happy to learn more about Loth-cats. She wasn’t sure what had spooked Fluffy in the first place. One moment the cat seemed to be enjoying time with its family and the next it had taken off like it had seen a ghost!

This stranger was full of interesting knowledge as he spoke of Jedi she had never heard of and enclaves she had yet to visit. Pari truly hoped to meet these Jedi and see these places with her own eyes someday.

“That sounds like a wonderful place.”

She could tell the place meant a lot to the man just by how he seemed to reminisce.

For a moment they dipped into silence, following down the alley until Pari pointed out tiny little paw prints in what looked like oil. She glanced around and saw a mechanical repair shop with an oil puddle in it.

“I think Fluffy must have paid this shop a visit. “ She pointed out the tracks. They lead a few yards down and then stopped abruptly at the door of a bakery.

“Should we see if he wandered inside?”

Braze followed along, keeping a watchful eye to ensure they weren't interrupted. He glanced down as she pointed out a trail of small, messy paw prints smeared in oil. He gave the girl a curt nod.

"It might be better to try the front entrance if you think they're inside," he cautioned lightly. "Or try knocking. I don't imagine people would appreciate us barging in through a back-alley doorway. Shall we head to the front or?" He wanted to encourage her to make her own choices on this little impromptu mission.

“Oh right… I didn’t consider that.”

She supposed it would be pretty rude to just go in through the back door. Her companion was a fast thinker and Pari was thankful to have him accompanying her.

She lead the way around to the front of the shop and they entered. Immediately they saw a small counter with sweet treats, some tables, and a droid who was serving up coffee to customers. It was a nice little shop that carried a pleasant aroma.

A blue skinned Twi’Lek came through a door behind the counter to greet them.

“Welcome to Corellian Cakes! May I interest you in some of our freshly baked goods? Guaranteed fresh!”

She motioned towards the glass container that held the sweets but as she did so a tattoo on her arm became visible. It was the symbol for the Zygerrian Slave Traders.

Clearly something shady was going down in this little cafe that Fluffy had found.

Braze's gaze lingered on the small tattoo etched into her skin. Worn so openly, it could signal confidence, protection, or the security of a place where authorities wouldn't interfere. But tattoos could mark more than allegiance. Sometimes they were inked onto property... or even slaves themselves... by those who wanted the ownership to be permanent. Perhaps she wasn't here by choice at all.

Still, they were here for the cat.

He schooled his expression into an easy smile and dipped his head politely.
"Actually," he said with an almost casual warmth, "we're looking for a rather elusive little feline. White fur, bit of an attitude, answers to 'Fluffy' if he's in the mood. You wouldn't have happened to see him lately, would you?"
