Cast a Bit of Light

Her eyes turned to the man. He didn't seem too old, probably up to six years older than her. She had, truth to be told, never met him and that was kind of... strange? She hadn't actually been really interested in her family and relatives who were not her parents or sibling. But now she was standing really close to her cousin-something. Why was she so nervous?

Her hands were sweating, probably for the first time ever, and all she could think of was the fact that the man was completely unpredictable. She'd heard her family before her mother was completely dark and that there were no Jedi in their complete family tree besides Lilith's sister whom she had yet to meet.

"Hello, I guess," the girl spoke, feeling a lump in her throat.

She could feel the man was feeling absolutely nothing inside. He was older, he was wiser and most definitely a whole lot stronger than her in everything. And she could feel that uneasy darkness radiating from him, just like she had imagined it would be like.

That made her feel slightly sick.

"I am... Lilin." Her voice trembled.

She could see the man blink and her brain told her he was definitely not too impressed with the way she came off.

Randyl was not impressed. Nor was he disturbed by the way the girl acted. She was afraid of him. Afraid of the one who wore the name of Lancaster. That didn't happen too often anymore, although he had learned in the past, the dynasty had been slightly honoured. At least this girl did understand what the name Lancaster meant. Her priorities seemed to lie in the right place.

"I know," he spoke calmly, nearly not moving himself at all.

His hands stood at his sides and eyes were attached to the girl. She had chosen to use the name Imperieuse, he knew. Huh, an interesting family name indeed, but something inside him told him that taking such a family name was not alright.

After all, the name had to run all the way through the family line. But now it had been interrupted, probably never continuing that way. It was sad, mainly because he and Jasmine had to compensate due to that.

"I am Randyl Lancaster, but you may call me just Randyl."

His eyes flickered off of the girl for a moment, but then returned to the target.

"You are an Imperieuse. Why? Why not take your mother's family name?"

Ugh, and things were already going to go that way.

"I didn't even consider using my mother's name. While it is a part of my full name, I have decided not to use it as a family name. I do not want to pursue the way of dark. I don't want to be her legacy."

She sighed.

Maybe she was already talking too much? She was not sure. But she was really frightened of the man's presence. What if she said something wrong and he was going to kill her? What if he didn't like her because of what she had just said and would thus imprison her somewhere? Would her aunt come to help her out?

The situation made her nervous.

"I know the majority of our-" she stopped, understanding using the word 'our' was not completely correct, "- your family is aligned with the dark and maybe you don't support my way of living. But that's the way it is."

"I won't kill you, Lilin. My cousin and your aunt is a Jedi. I have met her and I did not kill her. Why would I kill you?"

He took a few steps back and sat down on a bench, as well as patting the wood on his right -- a gesture that he wanted her to sit down there. It was kind of a nostalgic thing, he had to be honest. He'd sat with Jasmine the same way many months before. Both of the girls were aligned with the light, both were trying to make the galaxy a better place.

Yet Jasmine had been a lot more confident and open.

"Tell me, why do you hate the darkness so much? What part of it makes you... detest the whole dark? Why are you so sure light is the only true way to go?"

He looked at the eyes of the girl, even as she was moving to sit down next to him, which he could see took the girl a lot of courage. But he was not lion who'd bite her head off, so why was the girl so afraid of him? Was his appearance truly that frightening.

"Why won't you follow the rest of your family's lead at becoming a Sith?"

He smirked lightly.

"Even if your mother was a Sith and your father is no more than a fallen Jedi?"

Only seconds into their two meeting and they were already talking about such deep things. Why didn't they start with something easier like... it's a nice day or how are you or would you like a cup of coffee? But instead, they started talking about the Force right away.

"I... don't know. The dark side is a bad thing in general. I hate everything about it. And most of all, I hate the fact that I am left with no choice. Sooner or later, I will succumb into the darkness and I can't fight against it forever."

She shook her head.

"Isn't it ugly? Isn't it horrible? To know that you can't choose your side?"

She was truly afraid of the man. And she did definitely not want to talk. But she had to. She had to press the words, the sound out of her mouth and hope everything would go well.

"It's easy for you. I can sense you've embraced the Dark Side."

"Wow wow wow, slow down a bit!" Randyl spoke, once again, calmly.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"You can choose your side. Everybody can choose their sides on their own if they are strong," he said. "You know the species of Vahla, right? Well, they are naturally affiliated with the dark side, yet on my travels, I have seen countless Vahla who serve the light ether as Jedi or members of some other Force sects."

He opened his eyes again and looked at the girl.

"They are strong. And if they remain that way, they can fight against the natural darkness inside themselves."

Truth to be told, he hadn't seen many Jedi Vahla, but he had to comfort the girl some way, right? And that was the best way to do it -- to explain something through the nearly impossible.

"You have your mother's darkness inside, don't you? Well, if you remain fighting against it, there is absolutely no way it could take you over."

Lilin hadn't even thought of that. Perhaps she was like the Vahla who constantly fought against the darkness inside? But did they? She knew they had an affinity towards the dark side, but did they really have to fight to stay on the light side? Something ringed a bell about this matter and she was not sure what it was.

"Why are you so sure about everything to say? The corruption my mother left me with is stronger than you'd imagine. It is on the edge of making me fall. At least that's what it feels like."

Her eyes turned away from the man.

"I want to fight against all the evil in this galaxy, but I am not too sure if I am able to if there's so much evil inside me."

Sigh. That girl was truly as reckless and attached to her darkness as Jasmine had told him.

"Look, you are able to choose your own destiny. Your own fate. But if you don't let go of this way of thinking, you will never be able to fight against the darkness. It's just as simple as that. Such fear leads to the Dark Side inevitably."

He looked away, into the distance.

"You don't want that, do you?"

Jasmine would have wanted to train that girl if she were able to. Randyl wouldn't have wanted to do that. She was nothing like the person Jasmine had talked about. Was she truly the same Lilin his cousin had spoken so highly of?
