It was a slugfest.

Across the expanse of the asteroid belt, neat battle formations had devolved into a hundred little pitched battles as the airwaves were smothered with interference. It would have been a chore to coordinate such large bodies of ships under optimal circumstances, but with commanders effectively muffled, individual Consensus squadrons were left to fend for themselves.

In such chaos, the Ozniun Warbands reigned - little more than roving hordes brought together by a great Warboss under the promise of plunder, they thrived in such conditions. Swarms of little black daggers darted between the rocks, shredding through isolated Consensus forces with unrivaled ferocity.

With little ability to coordinate, all seemed lost for the gallant forces of the Consensus. With every moment, scraps of twisted metal and pilot corpses joined the eternal drift of the belt.

Not much longer now, until they all succumbed to the Dark.

"Child's play," Jyoti sneered as her thumbs flew over the sticks of the controller. She didn't think a simple video game could be so engrossing, but there was little else to do during the long transit. "I thought multiplayer would be more challenging to be honest."

Perhaps it because it was so simple, that it kept her attention. Despite the game narrative's attempt to dress up the conflict in nuance, there were clearly defined good guys and bad guys - and right now she and Allyson were whooping the former (the pair on the other end of the PvP match on the LAN connection). It wasn't like real life, where everything was much more...ambiguous.

"Looks like we've softened up the Feds a bit, why don't we take a stab at their command ship and land for an assault?"

She very much looked forward to marine action, then able to transition coordinating space battles to pure individual dueling against the Federation heroes on the Mothership. Sometimes, the Echani just wanted to whack people with a sword - or in this case, the massive sword axe of her Warboss.
