Captain Again

The newly appointed Head of Security sat in his newly appointed office that was just a short walk from his chambers and an even shorter walk to the office of [member="Lady Kay"]. His promotion was at first a complete surprise to him, but in hindsight, it certainly made sense. Lady Kay already had one other personal pilot and having two was a little gratuitous. Besides, Mac was an extremely experienced melee fighter and had developed a fierce loyalty not to Commenor but to Kay herself. Mac was certainly grateful for the promotion, and felt more at home in the training yard than behind the control panel of the Free Lady.

Yet the new position certainly had its challenges, the biggest one was the guards that [member="Darlyn Excron"] had recruited before he was promoted to minister. He hand picked all of them, and the guards proved somewhat resistant to the new command. There was no outright defiance, but Mac could see that the guards were hesitant in filling out his commands. Mac had to iron out that resistance soon. He had been a captain before, but he was only in charge of twenty some odd pirates. Now he was suddenly in charge of around five thousand guards.

Mac could tell that the guards didn't care for him. They knew that Mac had attempted to kidnap Lady Kay. The guards knew that Mac slaughtered two of their comrades while trying to do so. But Mac had changed since that attempt. Well he hadn't changed per se, but his allegiance did.

Nevermind that now.

Today, Mac had to go through and interview those who had applied for the new position as Darlyn's bodyguard. Mac scoffed at the idea. Darlyn didn't need a bodyguard, he was a powerful force user and always made Mac uneasy. Yet he supposed that since Darlyn is now a minister, appearances must be maintained, including the presence of guards.

He had an appointment with one of the finalists of the applicants, one [member="Alarla Ki"]. For a finalist, her application seemed relatively plain. Hopefully Mac could judge her mettle during the interview, he had a talent for analyzing people. Besides, his standards for a bodyguard for Darlyn were not high. After all, if it is something that Darlyn himself couldn't handle, then Mac doubted that any one of these applicants could.

Mac looked at the time. She should be arriving any minute now.

Nervous? Alarla has felt this nervous since the time she sabotaged her slavers vehicles...however she inhaled and exhaled as she checked herself in the mirror. She wanted to look as professional as she could she wanted to impress...afterall she had been wanting to serve her queen...evem if it was directly. After one last check she nodded and got into her speeder and started for the captial building

On her way there she ran over each and every thing she knew...that she should say...maybe even questions she thought of that she could answer. Then he thoughts drifted, it had been 3 years since she had been in slavery, and 2 years living on this planet...could her dream come True? Could she actually serve the queen?

She arrived, she got out and closed her eyes, counted then walked for the building, soon she was chevked in and led to his office. She entered and waited for the door to close before she bowed and spoke in a gentle tone but that held some power behind it making herself known

hello Mr haberon, it a pleasure to finally meet you

She said still standing waiting to be told she could sit

Mac looked up from his desk as the office door swung open to reveal a young Togruta lady. He arose from his chair to his full height and outstretched a hand, offering a firm hand shake. "It's Alarla Ki, right?" Mac was not one for pleasantries. Though it was evident that she had dressed up for this interview, Mac definitely had not. He was wearing his usual leather tunic and comfortable light armor, with his two trusty axes holstered on his hips. The mercenary made no attempt to professionalize his dress or speech after his promotion. Kay knew who she was promoting, and Mac intended to be that person, himself.

Mac eyed her as they shook hands. She seemed short for a bodyguard and a little less built than what he would've liked. Then again, everyone was short and scrawny compared to Mac. He motioned for the young lady to have a seat in front the desk. He sat himself down and introduced himself. "My name is Macoda Haberon. You can call me Captain, or Captain Mac, or sir." It felt strange introducing himself as captain again, although this time not as a pirate captain but as a captain of the guard. He smiled internally, Captain Mac had a nice ring to it.

He leafed through the [member="Alarla ki"]'s application which he had on his desk. It was very basic, simple physical details and life insurance mostly. He looked up at Alarla. "Why don't you start off by telling me a little bit about yourself? What experience have you had as a bodyguard? What training do you have?"

[member="Macoda Haberon"]
She shook his hand biting that he had quite the grip, this caused her to shake a but mostly from bad memories.

She took A seat as she realized she may of not dressed correctly...seeing as her interviewer was dressed much like a mercenary. Then again she didn't know what to expect so she had dressed as she needed. When he asked what training she had and experience she gave a small frown but then spoke

bodyguard experience I have none...this would be my first experience if I get hired, as for training none official however I know how to make and fix plenty if things. I...was a slave until three years ago when her majesty freed my people, I came when I heard she was president of the world and made home 2 years ago. I've worked in many different jobs mostly floating around trying to regain the sense of normal life...that seems to leave my grasp

She paused to let it set in, she had to say she feltnthat not having any good skills that were notable made her feel...small...but maybe if she could get this back have some sort of leadership over her she could slowly regain control over having a free will again

I'm seeking this job becasue I wish to serve her majesty even if not directly, she has helped me and now I wish to pay that back be putting myself to service for her prime minister of justice

Mac sighed heavily and leaned back in his chair. No training, no experience what so ever. She didn't have the right build or size for a bodyguard. All she had was a desire to serve Lady Kay, and there were many different ways to do that. [member="Alarla ki"] could've worked as a mechanic or secretary or anything besides a guard. She could be trained to fight of course, but so could anyone else. What made her so special? Her desire to serve Kay? "So you want to work for Lady Kay because she saved your life?" Mac held out his arms. "Welcome to the club, kid."

Mac paused before he continued. "Unfortunately, a desire alone doesn't qualify you to protect the Minister of Justice." He eyed the small young lady sitting across from him. She was shaking just a little bit and was evidently nervous. Mac frowned slightly, sometimes he forgot how intimidating he could be with his large build and large axes. It took courage to do what Alarla was doing. To put yourself out there, knowing that you are woefully unqualified for the job but your will requires that you at least try. Mac was a slave once as well, though for not nearly as long as her. Still, he knew what slavery was like and the courage it took to move on. He sighed and decided to give her another chance. "Tell me one good reason why I should hire you."

Part if Her died a little, lost the hope it had. He was right desire alone wasn't enough to simply get hired as a body guard. Maybe even barely as a secretary, she looked down a little defeated by that and she started going over her other options she had...maybe a teacher would work...or even a bar maid.....

However he asked her why he should hire her, her mind went in a blaze making up so many different things, however her mind set on one thing she knew had to sail smooth

i...am a fighter, I've fought for all my life through slavery, through being whipped, beat, degraded, and much worse. I've not broken down at all, I lived through it and I'm here today to get a job that is daunting to most because I refuse to let the past lead my future! I don't care what training i go through i will do it to get this job and to get better!

Her voice had slowly worked up and she had noticed she was slowly standing, she relaxed and sat down...she hasn't raised her voice ever...not unless it was to ask for forgiveness...she looked over at him hoping that hadn't ruined her chance

Mac sat there, reclined in his desk chair, analyzing [member="Alarla ki"] as she spoke. As she finished, she realized that she may have gotten carried away and sat herself back down. As Alarla calmed down and retreated back to herself, Mac leaned forward and locked eyes with the applicant, offering a small grunt as his only response. He furrowed his brows and sat there motionless for an unnerving amount of time, studying her. Here was this young lady who refused to let her past define who she is. This was something that Mac had struggled with for years. He could not forget his own past, and his and his past sure didn't forget him. He had a lot of respect for someone who had a handle on such a traumatic past.

Sure she may have seemed a little meek at first, but Mac saw fire in her eyes. There was determination and passion. Something that wasn't really apparent when he was teaching Lady Kay how to fight. As much as Mac tried to show otherwise, Kay wasn't a fighter. She thought too much, and didn't trust her instincts. But this young lady in front of him, she had the emotions that were necessary to be a fighter, necessary to push oneself to the brink. And Mac liked that.

Alarla had no training or experience, but maybe she might have some potential. Mac broke his eye contact with a conclusion. "Alright listen. I'm giving you one chance to prove yourself. Pack your bags and report here tomorrow at 0800 hours."

[member="Macoda Haberon"]

Alarla felt his stare and kept her own locked to his, she was nervous beyond anything but...she wasn't rejected yet and that hope swelled in her as she closed her eyes a minute, one to think on this just to think. She let a breath out and opened them and yes that shimmer of a fire though small was in them ready to be fed to grow bigger.

Then he spoke, she couldn't help a smile on her face as she held back her excitement. She had a chance to prove herself now, she would take this chance and she was going to show this man she could be a bodyguard to the prime minister of justice

thank you sir I won't disappoint one bit. May I go and get a headstart on packing?

She asked with a polite tone and a smile

Mac smiled as well, [member="Alarla ki"]'s excitement was contagious and he was looking forward to molding her into a fighter. "Yes you are dismissed. Tomorrow I'll show you your chambers and introduce you to [member="Darlyn Excron"]. Then your real training begins." The giant mercenary stood up from his chair, his hands resting naturally on his holstered axes after a quick stretch. Why did he feel the need to give her a shot? Mac didn't know for sure but he felt good about his decision. There was a fighting spirit in her, and some potential at least. He just hoped that Alarla won't prove him wrong.

[member="Macoda Haberon"]

thank you sir! I shall be here at 0800 on the dot

She said as she left, however once she got out she let a loud and excited yes as she practically skipped about to her speeder, she opened the door and quickly started for her home...er...well to be former now...she was so close she knew she couldn't fail...but she knew a little but that this wouldn't be easy. She closed her eyes as she arrived at her place and immediately started packing excited and just filled with joy

Her future was looking good
