Can you teach old dogs new tricks? [Marcus Undal]

The durasteel walls of one of the Voss Academy sparring chambers muffled the hustle and bustle of the outside world, leaving the room devoid of sound. Kratos sat amongst the silence, deep in meditation. He'd been instructed to spar against another student, another adult. While he didn't know much of his opponent, Kratos was able to find out that his opponent had a good six years on him. Six years of experience, perhaps. In any sense, he was as far away from Kratos in age as Kratos was from some of the younger Padawans. Still, they were two of the oldest Padawans in the order.

The purpose of the sparring session was simple: each Padawan was attempting to hone their skills in lightsaber combat. Kratos had been trained in Soresu, the most defensive of any forms, in order to fit his passive and peaceful style. He'd only learned the form recently, but had spent countless hours since practicing it. With nothing better to do, he'd decided to spend his free time increasing his proficiency with the form.

The silence of the room was broken with a small chime, notifying Kratos that his fellow student would be arriving shortly. Although the chime came from only a few feet away, it seemed to grasp him from an immeasurable distance and pull him out of his meditation, sucking him into the real world like a black hole. Grumpily, he got to his feet and stretched widely before retrieving his sparring saber. He gave it a few practice swings, tracing the circles of defense as he waited for his opponent.
