Private Can you hear the Jungle music?

The fire crackled and spat sparks into the air as the tinder-ridden base was set ablaze by the friction of a well-twisted stick and a few deep breaths. A confident smile set on Colette's lips as she peered into the newborn flame and took her seat on a nearby rock. She had dug a pit for the fire in case its embers would reach a little too far for the jungle, and to top it off she had encircled it with stone too just in case. Would it make a difference in case they lost control of the fire? Probably not. Was it at least a good start for keeping an eye on it? Yeah.

Her eyes wandered over to Jenn who sat next to her on the log they had conveniently decided to call their bench for the evening. The skies above were overcast but nothing seemed to hint at rain. If anything the air was surprisingly dry for a jungle.

"The forest wants rain, I think." She remarked and looked to the sky. "Monsoon season is in about a month."

After that this arid air would be nothing more than a memory for some. She glanced back at Jenn once more.

"So, where were we, again?"

Though Jenn's deeds had spread far and wide since the waning days of the war between the Mandalorian Enclave and the Galactic Alliance, the woman's ego had not grown so wildly out of control that she would ever shun the company of those some might think to be below her station. No, if anything, the Alor of House Kryze found a certain respite in those occasions where she could leave lift the burden of leadership from her shoulders, if only temporarily... to say nothing of the gentle mix of pride and relief, when she came to know of the fate of those she had met during her time in the Enclave.
Shan Shan , the brave pacifist. Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania , honorable knight and treasured friend. Loomi Loomi , the kind-hearted Godoan. Braze Braze and his surprising worldliness. And of course, Colette Colette , whose determination had left something of an impression on the mighty warrior. Bright souls, all, remembered fondly for their virtues, their fire, their hearts. How blessed was she, to have met her enemies and come to regard them with such consideration? Without fear nor pause, she knew her blade would be brought to bear if they ever called upon her.
Not that any of them had, but the stars still burned, and the Alliance's wars still ongoing. There would be a chance for her to repay them for helping her see a better, kinder path just yet.
"Good", answered the Mandalorian laconically, if melodiously, her helm turned to the sky. A pause followed, then, as she drank in the beauty of the stars, and the expanse between them. The greatest ocean of all. "I could do with some more humidity around here. It's not exactly as good as a proper soak, but I'll take it."
With her attention brought back to the young woman before her by her question, the Mandalorian tilted her head to the side, a smile pulling at her lips. Though she had not quite grown as familiar with Colette as she had someone like Corazona, she liked the fire in the girl's belly, and so she brought her hands to her helm, removing it with that telltale hiss of depressurization. Letting the young woman gaze upon the warrior's features. To see the way her eyes glowed ever-so softly, and how the scales close to them seemed to shift from one shade of blue to the next with each passing moment...
"I think I was just telling you how glad I am to see you again. I'm as busy as it gets, these days. There's always something going on that needs my attention, and... getting the chance to just - talk, with people? It helps."

Colette smiled at the joke and poked the fire for a bit. This meeting was one of happenstance, really, but it would seem by some miracle Colette had not only managed to keep Jenn's number but also slotted herself in on one of the less busy days of the year where not much was happening.

Her eyes lifted from the fire at the hiss of air sneaking its way into a space where it had not been before. For a few moments she looked Jenn over before giving an appreciative nod understanding the display of trust for what it was.

"I get ya." She said and crossed her arms on top of her knees. Sitting like this, on the cold hard ground, it felt good. "Been running a lot of support in the backlines lately."

"Food deliveries, investigating small disturbances across Alliance space, that kind of thing." Colette rolled her shoulders with a shrug. "People ain't as willing to talk when there are more important things to do. Especially if the important thing is their important thing."

"Not that I'm all that social to begin with. Always moved in small groups, y'know?"

The latest addition to the Noble household (or, at least, until her adoptive mother decided to have yet another child, a prospect Jenn all but expected from the Grandmaster at this point) provided the Mandalorian with a reminder of the going-ons of those without the mantle of leadership thrown over their shoulder. If she was to rule efficiently, then losing touch with the common man was simply not an option, and neither did she particularly want to distance herself from them either. Watching the girl poking the fire with an idle smile, she leaned back on her palms, humming quietly to herself. This... felt right. The simple, simple life.
"That's good. Too many people forget that the little things are just as necessary as the rest, and not even the Jedi are immune to that. Gods know I'm not." A smirk pulled at her lips, there. If anything, the Duchess liked to believe she was more than able to remind herself (and others) of her fallible nature. No matter how much she sometimes wished to fully embrace the legend she was rapidly becoming, and become something beyond flesh and beskar altogether.
It just wasn't worth it. For now.
"Mh, I get you. See, my people tend to be family-minded, but there's a fair few loners among us. Private people, you know? Doing just fine being left alone. They're more than glad to be hunters for the House, enjoy their solitude whilst contributing- which reminds me, I need to invite you to the Clangrounds proper, one of these days. If only so you can have a taste of Mandalorian cuisine for yourself! Hope you like spicy meat."

Was that a small hint of a lecture Colette was noticing? Her eyebrow rose with equal measures of curiosity and confusion. She was all too aware that it was the small parts that mattered the most, but perhaps Jenn needed to tell herself that as much as she wanted to let Colette know that she was aware of it.

Either way, it was unimportant right now. Colette listened to the way that Jenn spoke and the way that she spoke of her own people and culture. While Colette still held a disdain for the Mandalorian creed, she knew well enough to bite her tongue and fake a smile when a situation called for it.

Besides, the similarities mentioned felt pretty universal for most people.

"I'd like that." Colette said and smiled at the invite. "And hey, maybe Valery— err, m-... aw— mh."

"MOM." The kid forced the words from her lips. "Might have issues with spice, but I certainly don't."

"Did you ever have sushi? I feel like you'd be a sushi person."
