I know killing is off-limits, but if a person with a bounty joined/made a public thread, would it be alright to hop on board and capture them? Or is that bad forum etiquette?

You could always look over at the bounty board, where credits are awarded for completed bounties.

If they join a public thread, nobody will bat an eye if you join it too, gunning for them. Just make sure you cover all your bases. Some people love being hunted; some people actively hate it (but should get over it if they want to join public threads) so make sure your approach is unimpeachable. I recommend not attacking with your first post in the thread, and not using your first post to say you've already set a trap.

I used to run probably the board's most objectively successful bounty hunter. He's been retired to NPC status for months and people STILL look at me funny when I join public threads - with any character. And they've generally got good reason to.
So, basically, if you set out to bounty hunt, wariness is par for the course and totally manageable. Enjoy

The key here is that there's a difference between hunting and capturing. Often people with bounties are important enough to warrant someone wanting them captured. For example every Jedi and Sith has a bounty (probably various for some) but engaging them in a public thread without discussing it first might be risky IC - depending on their abilities.
But the consensus is correct - they're called Public threads for a reason. Unless there's a request to PM to join, you should be free to do as you want

The flipside is that most Force Masters on the board and in canon really...aren't terrifying when it comes to combat experience. One time I captured and got paid for three Masters inside of a week. Totally doable.

If you wanna tango, I'm always down. I've got some characters that've had bounties on them - my character [member="Jorus Merrill"] recently raided Fringe space and incurred this 120,000cr bounty. Or there's [member="Ashin Varanin"], semi-retired supervillain who failed a redemption arc pretty hard -- a good chunk of the galaxy has reason to go after her. And sparring Mara is an option. Take your pick lol. The more combat writing you do, the more comfortable it'll be and the more fun it'll be.

As someone who is often hunted, I go into Public threads knowing full well that a bounty hunter might take a crack at me.
Public threads are fair game IMO. If I don't want to be hunted, I don't go in them.
