Question Can We Hide Our Alts?

I know there is a thread about the "oops this profile is private" glitch reporting thread but that appears to be for those who did not intend to have their profile set to private.

What if you DO intend have your profile set to private? Isn't that effectively hiding your alts? Because if I click on it and I try to see who you write I get...

So doesn't this effectively violate the spirit of the no hiding behind alts rule?

The instructions Tefka gives is for people to self-report their own accounts. So you should inform the person whose account is erroneously set to private, and then they can post in the thread.

Jsc Jsc In regards to the rules K KAR is concerned about is the following in General Rules:
  • 7. Users will not support their own posts with sub-accounts.
  • 15. Attempts to circumvent any of our security policies or rules will result in disciplinary action.
If you can't see the subaccounts to a writer account, it could be possible to circumvent this and support their own posts. That is the only danger I can see here, and probably why Tefka sees it as a glitch.

Since you just replied K KAR the first rule reads:
  • 1. Multiple ‘writer’ accounts are not allowed. All profiles must be created as ‘character’ subaccounts to your main writer account.
This would not apply here, writer accounts are separate and differentiated from sub-accounts. Not being able to see the sub-accounts of a writer account is not the same as having multiple writer accounts.

Self-reporting is also the only way this issue can really be handled, it isn't a malicious thing, and we shouldn't treat it as such. Otherwise that paves the way for witch hunts etc.. Not to mention that in some cases, this glitch may occur on accounts no longer in use by members who have left. Self-reporting means the account is in use, and needs to be fixed.

K KAR It is out of our control, I even verified myself that it does not show up as an option in any of the account fields. This, coupled with Tefka's glitch announcement, confirms that if it occurs, it is not something a user has chosen to do. Ergo, if you see it, you should message the writer if they don't already know, so that they can repair it at their convenience through the report system.
