The Techno Union:
Security Forces

The Techno Union has a sterling reputation for its advancement in business, science, and information acquisition. The Techno Union even has its own branch specifically for Force Users appropriately named; The Obsidian Order. Even for this ever expanding and rapidly growing Faction, a few things can sometimes fall through the cracks. I believe that the TU Security Forces is one of those few things. We have a very impressive NPC Army due to our various Company and Industrial contracts and members, but for the Non-Force Users there's no real collective space for ideas to be shared, inventory to be measured, nor activities to start. I want to help fix that.
But, before I can do anything I need you guys (the faction community) to help me out. If anyone and everyone (NFU or not, all are welcome) to post what direction they think the Security Forces should go in it'd help us get a clear-cut picture of the direction everyone would like our military to go in.

A> The Formal Military is pretty self-explanatory. We'd have the normal model with NPC supplements from our massive stockpile and Characters would most likely be leaders of NPC squads to give players at least a feeling of importance in the military system and in the TU itself as a whole with their higher average standings.
Pros:
+ More likely to have a higher rank
+ More freedom to control squads as they'll be mostly NPC based
Cons:
- Less likely to interact with other Players as often because NPC based squads
- More militarized structure means less freedom for mercenary and bounty hunter types who wish to enlist
~+=x=+~
B> The less formal "Special Forces Sector" approach will allow a lot more freedom for players to come and go as they please at the cost of lower ranks, and more often than not players leading other players in the command in small squads of All-Player groups which allows for more Fire-Forged Friends and specialization groups such as demolition, recon, heavy infantry, etc.
Pros:
+ More Roleplay cohesion between players as they'll be in squads together
+ More freedom for mercenaries to be able to complete outside contracts without risk of reprimand
Cons:
- Less likely to have a higher rank
- Squads will be small and led by an actual player, which means following orders may come into account
Last but not least is the matter of location for our Military 'Headquarters' so to speak. Depending on which route we go drastically changes what the Base of Operations for the NFU's will be like. A Formal military would most likely allow for the Strategic Headquarters for all of the Military Service, whereas the Special Forces Sector approach would lead to a fairly large military base with training grounds and such for just us NFU's as Commandos.
Personally, I feel as though whichever way the poll goes (I do have a favorite, but as the one who wrote this I will remain unbiased :p) we will have a fantastic time putting together threads to raid, skirmish, and perform covert-ops as one big happy TU family. Not to mention having joint missions with the Obsidian Order to show them how a real soldier takes an objective ;) . Who knows, maybe even a friendly game of CTF between us two sects one day? The Possibilities of this project are endless and I sincerely hope everyone currently involved in the TU takes the time to read this through thoroughly and vote on not only whatever you believe would be the best for the TU, but most importantly; what you think would be the best to let you have fun. If we're not having fun than what's the point? Anyway, thank you all again and hope to hear from you soon.

This is great Kyber! Love the write-up.

I voted for number one but only because I think it's easier to assemble that type of group. However I'm not opposed to number two based on the unique nature of the TU.

I'm also going to tag a couple folks who have shown interest in the military branch of the TU recently so they can weigh in and start organizing. :)

Option 1 is the best option.

Larger military, ability to be a wide variety of roles including infantry, armor, artillery, close air support, and even special forces operatives like option 2 mentions. In my opinion, the first option is option 2 plus a wider range of benefits and strategic possibilities.

Back in my day.....

Anyway, I tossed a vote to 2. The TU has traditionally (I say this because I'm old, not because I'm implying it should remain) a droid army for the majority of our military. Saves lives.

Option 2 gives a bit more focus on the unique... almost 'hero' aspects of the stories. Make it more PC/NPC squad hybridization. Stuff. Words.

I really like the write up overall, though

The Techno Union Security Force as a whole is dominated by droids. Any organics present during military operations are likely one of the following.
  • Specialist auxiliary companies from planetary militaries, volunteered for the campaign
  • Mercenaries contracted by the Department of Security
  • Field personnel from the Department of Security
Field personnel from the DoS would take command roles over squads, platoons, and so forth of droids. So would mercenaries if they so desired and we are willing to appoint them to the task. If not, they'll conduct themselves as you outlined in Objective B.

I'm really just not sure what's being suggested, because I've been playing as we already have both options.

We did, but he failed to check in for the reboot of the registry. As it stands, I think [member="Kyber Salurra"] is our resident military man, so if he's up for the position, I say give it to him.

If I'm understanding what you've wrote correctly, [member="Gerion Ardik"], the Security Director is the leader of the whole military, not just the Option B portion, correct? If so, I'd be honored to take the the position if it means helping out the TU. However, taking my character's personality and emotions into account, just leading the option B portion would be more suiting. However, as the Droid Army part is pretty self sustaining and can handle itself just fine, I believe most of my responsibilities would lie in handling the tasks of option B anyway, right? So taking that into account I think him taking the position wouldn't be a too much of a stretch in the slightest. Not to mention maintaining a whole army of droids seems more like the economical and political side of the spectrum which would be joint ventures with the DoS and the main proponent of the droid army, who (correct me if I'm wrong) I assume is the TU executive council in general. That seems very doable as there is inherently more than just one person in oversight of the whole army of droids, allowing Kyber to focus more on the organics in option B.

Anyway (sorry for the long-winded nature of some of my posts), the answer would be yes, if [member="Tmoxin Temi"] and the others would have me, I'd gladly take up the mantle of Director of Security and help spearhead this project I'm very impassioned with! :D

Department of Security - Manages the military and defense network of the Techno Union. Monitors/coordinates the security forces of Committees, member-corporations, and planets.
Control of the military ultimately falls to the Executive Council, which the DoS answers to. It will fall upon Kyber to lead the DoS in its duties of management, monitoring, and coordination as instructed by the Executive Council. This is both in general or for events that require a large amount of military oversight and coordination, such as an invasion or annexation.
