TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
SPECIAL FEATURES

[*]Navigation:

[*]Defenses:

[*]
Electronic warfare:

Strengths:
  • Heavy long-range firepower concentrated in one turret
  • High point-defense
  • Can land on planets
  • Electronic warfare capability
Weaknesses:
  • Slow and ponderous
  • Once the armor has taken a hit, another hit at that same location may penetrate the armor
  • Firepower consolidated in a single hardpoint: it is thus vulnerable to other corvettes and frigates capable of outrunning the main battery's traverse and also, if that hardpoint is destroyed, the ship loses its ability to effectively fight capital ships
  • Once the jammers are active, its own communications are jammed
Description: While the monitor recipe has proven its worth in the Serenno campaign, the Skor had one major flaw: the ammunition is limited, and hence could only last for a limited time on a battlefield. To this end, the venerable C-9980, which was used over Ord Radama, was extensively redesigned: its entire anti-capital ship armament was replaced by one hardpoint sporting a heavy long-range turbolaser or ion cannon that is typically used for surface-to-orbit fire. This arrangement gives rise to two subclasses, identical in all respects except for its main battery: the T-subclass, which has an Ison surface-to-orbit turbolaser installed, and the I-subclass, which has a Hoth surface-to-orbit ion cannon fitted, both of which have the same weakness of it having slow traverse and elevation speeds, causing the C-9981 to have the same weakness as the Skor or any other artillery ship of that kind: it is vulnerable to corvettes and frigates that can outrun its main gun's traverse. In addition, an enemy that can destroy its main hardpoint will make this ship nothing more than a glorified anti-starfighter ship provided that it survives the assault.

Also, with the freed space from assault concussion missile ammunition, a suite of electronic warfare implements have been installed, such as the hyperwave hammer array and frequency jammer, effectively preventing an enemy from communicating using subspace and hyperwave means, at the cost of jamming their own communications using these media, forcing the ship to rely on tightbeam transmissions from other sources to communicate. Even then it is not meant to be a ship to be deployed on the front line in battle.

With the tensor field generator and anti-concussion field allowing it to maintain hull integrity in flight, it also features another defense, hitherto little-known in space combat: explosive-reactive armor, which enhances its defense against kinetic weapons but also creates a weakness upon taking a hit: it creates a weak spot that can be exploited by other ships. Firing at that same spot again will likely penetrate the armor, which can cause some problems for commanders using those ships, and potentially cause a reactor breach.
