Business is Business

The Bothawui System
Bothawui
08:00
The Malvern Estate had come alive to receive it's guest. It had been some time since Adron had been able to dip himself into the world of business. After the exodus of his company from Serenno, there was little left to build upon, yet the building was underway none the less.

Many contracts and customers had been lost over the past few years, the result of Adron's shift to the other side of the galaxy. Yet now with the backing of the Imperial Moff Council, as well as his own earnings from Bothawui, Malvern Industries was prepared to come alive, anew. To launch this endeavor, many new contracts were needed, the first of which would be discussed this very morning.

A rather generous breakfast was prepared in the meeting room. Eggs, bacon, sausage, along with many other entrées accompanied an assortment of fruits and vegetables, A fine white Serrenoan wine was poured for the morning, along with a few glasses of water, juice, and coffee, depending on the guests tastes.

Clad in a form-fitting light grey suit with a slate tie, Adron watched as the servants prepared the spread, his hands laying comfortably clasped behind his back. Well done, as always. He mused, before turning out of the hall and making his way to the main corridor. Glancing down to the watch on his wrist, Adron realized his guest should be arriving any minute. Two of his guardsmen, Imperial Novatroopers, followed closely on his heel as he moved to the estate's landing pad, eager to meet his host.

Brae's Nssis-Class Clawcraft stays stationary over Bothawui, her cold crimson eyes staring at the planet in a quiet contemplation before she urges the ship forwards, this time she had not brought any of her bodyguards with her.

Her ship entered the atmosphere and she shielded her eyes from the burning vortex of entry. She then heads for the coordinates sent to her, and after a few minutes her ship circles around overhead until it slowly lowers and lands on the landing pad, it takes a few seconds for her to step out. She would be dressed in a white officer's uniform, oddly similar to that of Thrawn's back when he was serving with the Empire.

"Greetings High Moff." She begins, giving a small bow before straightening up again, her face stoic and emotionless, although her eyes look him over as if assessing his worth "I am Brae'owiawo'theyiri of APEX Technologies and the Chiss Ascendancy, it is an honor to be hosted by you."

The landing ship was met with a reception of ten Novatroopers, lining each side of the walkway as the Chiss woman descended down to Adron. A necessary measure, one to be sure the High Moff's life does not expire at an early date.

Her bow was returned with a matching one of his own, as he gestured back to his estate. "Welcome to the Malvern Estate, Commander." He said, taking notice of the rank on her breast pocket.

"It is an honor to greet a representative of the Chiss Ascendancy, please you must be tired after your journey. Let us enjoy a meal before we are to business." He said, turning and making his way back to the Estate. His own guardsmen would turn to flank him as he led the woman into his home. His stance was dignified and paced, his chin staying at even level as he strode through the yard. Imperial through and through, his noble heritage easily presented itself as such.

Once arriving in the dining hall, he would gesture for her to sit, taking notice of the covers that had been placed over the plates and bowls. "Please, join me." He offered.

Her eyes widen and her eyebrow raises as she watches the young moff quizzically before following him into his palace. Her crimson eyes scan the environment as if expecting to be ambushed, a cautious habit adopted after years of service. "Your Estate is quite impressive.." She means this more as a statement than a compliment.

"It is an honor to be hosted and to sit down with a High Moff of the Galactic Empire." She looks around at the guards escorting them thinking of making a point of it yet decides not to antagonize him just yet. Her stature is similar to his, although she walks with an air of superiority, chin slightly raised as if looking down upon those surrounding her. Her arms are crossed behind her back, yet dangerously close to the pistol hidden on the back of her belt.

She sits, as he suggests, glancing around at the hall and meal splayed out before them "Do you treat all of your guests like this?"

Adron’s reception would likely be perceived as eccentric for something as trivial as a business agreement, however for the former Count of Serenno it was tradition to treat each and every guest with luxury and respect deserving their station. As a representative of the Chiss Ascendancy as well as APEX, this woman had earned such a welcome.

“On Serenno, honored guests are treated with the utmost respect. I don't want to fall out of practice, now do I?” He said, the most mild bit of amusement coming from him as he watched the Servant staff enter the room. The silver covers to the food were removed, showing the rest of the display. As a thin cloud of steam rose from the food, Adron looked to the members of his guard. A minor gesture, two fingers extended in their direction, saw them out of the room, taking up a position outside of the door.

“Now. Let us enjoy the meal.” He said.

The breakfast would go by smoothly, little conversation as the two would enjoy the meal. After some time would pass, Adron finished off a small glass of white wine, his eyes turning to the Woman before him. “Well. Shall we move on to business?” He asked. His tone, as always, was dignified and carried a tone of respect, yet also one of superiority. As the table was cleared, a man entered the room, a brown skinned human clad in a black suit, he carried two datapads in his hand. Setting one in front of Brae and passing another to Adron, he would take his place behind the Imperial Moff.

"Serenno? I've never been to this world," she states.. not really enjoying having to leave Csilla or Mandalore, the two worlds she spends most of her time in.

Yet she enjoys their conversations, and the food, the food is so much better than most anything she had ever eaten back on Csilla. Back home they served lychan with the occasional meat, but here, there was so much variety and it all had taste and different textures. It was so good that by the end she seems quite relaxed and in a generally good mood, not as stern and emotionless.

She accepts the datapad, looking over the initial contents before looking up at him with raised quizzical eyebrows "What business exactly are you interested in Mr. Malvern?"

Adron smiled once more, breaking away from the topic of Serenno. As the woman’s question was asked, the High Moff tapped the datapad in front of him, glancing over a few things for a moment. “APEX is doing quite well for itself. Although it's still rather new it has made a good name for itself, especially among the Ascendency. My compliments.” He said, before clearing his throat.

“My business, is in Trade, shipping, and escort. Three things that are vital for any corporation. Now I imagine you are looking to expand in the coming years, well no matter where you expand you'll need someone to get your products from point A to point B.” He said, tapping into the datapad to show a listing of Hyperspace routes that move throughout the galaxy. “The rate of piracy among these lanes, the fastest ones, is increasingly rising. The first order and Galactic Alliance are at was. The Sith Empire is expanding, and the Galactic Empire will not stretch too close to the Alliance. That makes all of these lanes candy for the taking. My Escort Fleet can provide your product safe passage throughout most of the known galaxy. For a price you will have ships, crews, and soldiers that come with a generous insurance policy.” With that the High Moff tapped the datapad once more, bringing up a few ships within Malvern Shipping and Trade.

“Don't want the service? You can still have the ships, of course you'd have to supply them with crews and there will be no insurance policy unless you purchase the escort fleet.”

"The Ascendancy sees APEX for what it can do for them, the same goes for my clients. APEX is more of a service than a storefront for armor and weapons, and as APEX reaches more planets across the galaxy I certainly can see our competitors wishing to deny this service to many."

Brae has rehearsed this speech several times, does she believe it? Not necessarily, she's out there for the power and money that APEX brings her, and this man can certainly help push her agenda "I can see our companies being incredibly helpful for each other, so yes, taking the burden off my shoulders knowing your ships will be protecting mine is something I am most definitely interested in, shall we talk prices?"

She glances down at the datapad, making sure everything on it is to her liking, then when satisfied she turns her attention back to him

A content expression passed over Adron's face as he nodded at the woman before him. "Excellent." He said, before tapping on the datapad before him, the information he entered transmitting directly to Brae's.

"It is standard for the client to pay for the upkeep, equipment, and rates of each employee used to man the ship. However, fuel and weaponry will be paid through my company. Given the respect the Empire has for the Chiss Ascendancy, as well as my deep admiration for your company, we have elected to offer you a three percent discount." To many, three percent was a minor discount, however in the world of millions it was substantial in it's own right.

"We factor the cost you cover, times the hours traveled, and that will bring us to our price. So the longer the journey, the more it will cost. We assign benchmarks, to designate the multiplier in which your travel will rise in cost. The longer you use our company, the lower the multiplier will get. As of right now, the base rate for any journey, is right below one million credits."

"Currently, your first benchmark is two days. Meaning, every two days, your rate will go up five percent." He explained, before continuing. "Of course this number can rise or fall depending on the number of ships used per journey, how much is being transported, and if the destination is farther or closer than the standard being used here."

Brae understood most of the technical jargon, although she makes a mental note to bring a lawyer with her from now one to make sure contracts aren't being slighted against her. Yet she nods and listens along, nodding her head here and there to signal her interest until he is finished, then she leans in on the table "I was not expecting you to be so well versed in contracts, but this seems acceptable to me."

She knew giving in without bargaining was a sign of weakness, so she decides to see how far she can push him. She pulls up the data-pad, scrolling through the data as if to confirm what he tells her, seeming to squint at a few things before nodding them away. "I truly was unaware that APEX had become so well known all the way out here, it is mostly local to Chiss space after all." she glances up at him, raising her eyebrows quizzically "So.. I could see a mutual agreement coming about here, five percent off of all APEX Armors and weapons for your guards. In exchange, I would ask for a five, instead of three, percent discount for your services. I assure you that the Duraweave developed by APEX is a new form of Armor that your soldiers would be lucky enough to have on them."

As Brae spoke, Adron drew his lips into a thin smile. “I am well versed in all things that benefit me, Commander.” He returned before listening to the woman. She had come at his rather generous offer with a counter of her own. While her counter had some value of it own, she hinted that the terms were agreeable nonetheless.

Pressing his back to the base of his chair, there was a moment of consideration. Adron did not know if he would use APEX’s product, as the Empire supplied his company with a gracious discount on weaponry and armor.

“Agreed.” He replied, realizing the few percents lost would be of little note in the future, if it meant a prosperous relationship with the Chiss Ascendancy. Tapping the table softly, two servants that sat in the corner of the room approached each of the two at the table. Before them was set a single glass, which was quickly filled with a rather sweet celebratory wine.

“Well. If we have come to an accord. You need only sign the datapad in front of you.” He said, tapping the edited information into the agreement. With his signature, all the agreement needed was Brae’s.

Brae signed the agreement with a flourish of the wrist, her signature exact and precise, easy to identify yet difficult to replicate. She signs her full name, Brae'owiawo'theyiri, before sliding the pad a little way down the table. Her hand then grabs the wine, brings it to her lips, and takes a sip of the red nectar. "I'm happy we could come to an agreement. The Ascendancy is slowly growing in power Mr. Malvern, and I'll be sure to put in a good word for both you and the Empire." She continued to call him Mr. Malvern, out of respect, but out of rebellion as well, she considered herself an equal to this man, and she assumed it meant little to him as he had not made a fuss about it as so many other Imperial officials did.

She holds up the wine glass as if to salute him on a job well done, before settling it in her lap "Do you sincerely think the Empire will be able to regain the power it once had? Or will it be dwarfed ultimately by the other major powers grabbing land within the Galaxy?" she seems genuinely curious about his position on the matter. She relaxes in her chair, just enjoying his hospitality.

Adron took a shallow sip of the wine in front of him, his eyes falling on Brad. They were not soft, yet we're they stern to any one purpose. Instead they maintained a naturally analyzing gaze.

Setting the glass on the table, he could not help but chuckle a bit at the woman’s question. “What power did the Empire once have that there is to gain?” He asked, before shaking his hand dismissively at his own question. “Nevermind. If you are asking me, do I believe the majority of the known galaxy will ever fall under Imperial rule again? No.” The answer was one Adrom had considered before this moment, so it was an easy conclusion to come to.

“At least not in our time. There will come a time when the galaxy grows weary of war and death, and it will turn to the warm embrace of the Empire. But that time is nowhere soon.” He explained. “The Force guides the galaxy along a strange path, yet it is one we must walk nonetheless.”

"That is if the Empire survives that long. The Confederacy grows on your eastern border, and the Commenor Systems Alliance to your south puts you in a dire place, and many potential rivals claim to be the direct descendants of the Empire, not to mention the First Order which seems bent on taking the galaxy by force and is doing a fine job of it."

She lets this sink her, her eyes watching him carefully as she leans forward on the table some more, resting her arms on the smooth surface, fingers interlaced. Her mouth spreads into a smirk as if to drive the point home before she continues

"You seem awfully confident for a man who follows an unseen force that could end your civilization at its own whim."

This whole meeting was as much as a diplomatic mission in her eyes as it was a business agreement. She ultimately served The Ascendancy, regardless of her ties to the Mandalorian Empire or other recognized groups. She hoped that through APEX the Ascendancy could reclaim its position in the galaxy and planned on weeding out potential enemies and allies early on, and this man may very well be a great help to her and her people some day.

"We view the galaxy through a different eye, Commander." Adron said, crossing his arms over his lap once more.

"You view the galaxy in ifs, while I view it in what will happen." Adron watched as one of the servants moved to refill his glass of wine, waiving a hand at the woman in declination he turned his attention back to the Chiss before him. "There is no question that this Empire will fall. Yet I promise you, it's time is not now." He said, drawing his lips into a thin smile, before standing up from his seat.

Adjusting his coat, he lightly clasped his hands behind his back.

Adron made his way over to the woman, glancing down at her before holding a hand out to her, to aid her rise from her seat. "I do not doubt that the Force could see to my Empire's destruction. Yet that is not my concern in the Force, Commander."

She takes his hand, rising with his assistance "Thank you-" she says mostly out of courtesy, taking a deep breath, contemplating the meaning behind his words a few minutes before shrugging "I am an opportunist Mr. Malvern, I must see the galaxy in ifs or I will be outdone by those who do." She takes a few steps towards the door, stopping to enjoy the architecture of the room, something she finds interest in as every culture has such a unique design and she makes a mental note of a few aesthetic choices she finds particularly appealing.

"The Empire is certainly promising, and I hope that when the Ascendancy claims its rightful place in the Galaxy again that Csilla and Kamino will have a beneficial working relationship." she looks expectantly at her as if expecting him to walk her out, not necessarily because she feels that she needs it, but simply because she expects someone like him to do so.

[member="Adron Malvern"]

There was a noticeable moment as Brae took in the architecture of the Malvern Estate, A traditional Serrenoan interior, she would likely be new to it's design if she had never been hosted by a Count of the planet before. Even among the common populace the classical architecture has fallen out of style.

"I do not doubt that the Empire and the Ascendancy will maintain a prosperous friendship." he assured her, as he led the way out of the Estate. Making the brief stroll back to her ship, his pace had slowed as he continued to speak. "Though I am curious. Is the Empire the only ally that the Ascendancy hosts? I would think they would have much to gain by allying themselves with the Sith Empire, am I correct?" He prodded, taking the moment to gather a bit of information on the Chiss.

"The Chiss have never had any need for the force, and the Sith are too unpredictable and volatile, what is the point of a deal with those who are unlikely to uphold it when their ambitions outdo their honor?" It is clear she has little or no faith in the Sith Empire, seeming perhaps a little angry that he brought it up.

Yet she attempts not to do anything brash as she takes a few seconds to add "However, the Mandalorians have certainly earned my respect, I hope that the Ascendancy and the Mandalorians can get on friendly terms, what do you know of them? I only know what the members of Clan Australis tell me, or what I see on their worlds. I assume The Empire has a spy network who gleans information that can be shared among allies?" She's not really expecting him to tell her, but it is better to ask then just to assume.

[member="Adron Malvern"]

A soft chuckle erupted from the High Moff as Commander Brae spoke. “Glad to hear we’re on the same page in that regard.” He shared, revealing his own distaste of working alongside the With Empire. Yet when she brought up the Mandalorians, Adron’s step slowed into a halt as he took a moment to contemplate his words.

“Unpredictable.” He said, finally picking his step back up and shaking his head a bit. “Before I joined the Empire I was witness to more than a few of the Mandalorian clans. They are forever in motion behind whatever new slight has been enacted by or on them.”

“Generally they devolve into some manner of civil war.” He muttered, just as they arrived to Brae’s landing platform. “Well, Commander. I will have your fleet ready to mobilize in under a month. Once you have returned to Csilla, you need only supply me with the necessary information for their first run, after that they will work solely through you as your contractors.”

She pauses as he does, looking at him intently until he answers in which case she quickly follows him after a short delay to fully comprehend his statement. She has to rush a little having fallen a few feet behind but catches up and keeps up her brisk pace until they arrive at the landing pad.

"Thank you, High Moff. I'll contact you as soon as I have some of my lawyers look over the documents in detail. And I assumed that is what the Mandalorians were like, such a fragmented society is surely not going to last particularly long, as I'm sure you and the Empire know too well." And with that, she gives a stiff half-bow, before going to board her ship once again.

Sitting the cockpit, she flips a switch which closes the door behind her before activating the engines, which slowly lift her craft off the ground and into the air, and ultimately, space, heading back to her homeworld.
