The Outer Rim was home to a lot of unsavory types. Pirates, and pillagers to name a few. But the people he was a part of, the Federation, was deep within the reaches of Wild Space and the Rim. And for better or worse, the Coalition was encroaching on those worlds. Well, that was, after the First Order were beaten back by the Ssi-Ruuk with the latter only recently being pushed back by the more militant factions within the Coalition. One such faction being the Alliance Remnant. But even then, the beacon of civilization on the Rim was fortifying the Mid Rim and the border to the rest of the galaxy.

The Storms were here to help settle that score. They had been arming themselves from an old Mon Calamari cruiser that had fled the core during the push against Coruscant. With only a few supporting craft, two corvettes and an assault frigate, the Storms were no better than a small rebel cell operating under the banner of ‘former Alliance met Lords of the Fringe.’ An odd dichotomy, but so was the Coalition.

The unit he was with crewed out of an Assassin-class corvette by the name of Torrent, and were the spear of assaults. The team was currently laying low on Varonat, keeping watch on the Werewolves and Ssi-Ruuk. What Bacu was focused on currently, as his team move through the Tropis-on-Varonat, was the group of Ssi-Ruuk and their supporting enteched individuals. With his bowcaster in hand, he was sticking to the shadows, using the Force to keep attention off of him. As he got in range, the dark green Mirialan nodded.

His comrade, a Mon Calamari Force sensitive was stalling, and a crack of thunder was heard as the environment changed. The clouds darkened and with the next crack of lightning and thunder, blaster bolts erupted scattering enteched, Ssi-Ruuk, and civilians alike.

With his bowcaster taking shots, he was going for the larger of the Ssi-Ruuk. Just waiting to close the distance.

Ruby sank back against a slab of concrete, what was at one time the side of a structure. Her blue eyes shifted skywards as the clouds gathered above, steadily darkening. She had been here on Varonat for a day or so, determined to find some action and do something. Her own introduction to the Outer Rim Coalition had been fairly short, but she was ready to jump right in. Coren Starchaser seemed alright, he was far better than his healer lady friend—but he was still a voice of reason. And she didn't want to listen.

So, she had scrounged up some armor, sans helmet, and topped it off with a leather jacket. Ruby didn't think Coren would mind if she 'borrowed' some of his weapons; she'd taken a random assortment. Without a ship to her name, she'd been forced to hitch a few rides... but she made it.

She'd never seen a Ssi-Ruuk up close before, and the sight definitely did not disappoint. She'd managed to slink around fairly unnoticed as she gained her bearings and managed somehow not to get enteched herself. But now, she was ready to go. A crack of lightning illuminated the surroundings, as did blaster bolts. Crouching, she watched as a rather large Ssi-Ruuk moved. This was it.

Heart beating swiftly, she reveled in the feeling of danger – and pulled the trigger. Ruby's blaster bolt grazed the Ssi-Ruuk's shoulder, prompting it to give chase. Her' eyes widened, but there was a grin on her face as she started to run.

One, two, and he dropped two of the Ssi-Ruuk. But a few shots were going wide. He really needed to close the distance. There was a way to do that and Bacu gave a dark grin as he took two more shots. What he didn’t pay much attention to was who was here, who was fighting and who wasn’t. But what he did notice was someone who wasn’t a part of the battle plan. This wasn’t one of the Storms, no he’d know that. Plus, his own team wouldn’t miss a shot like that. Shaking his head, he dropped his bowcaster, causing it to retract the bow and fall to his hip, on the sling around his shoulder.

A low growl escaped the MIrialan as he pulled the alchemized sword from his hip. A few steps and the rather large alien leapt forward. The sword didn’t glow or gleam with its own light, but in the sun, the silver blade was apparent. Hitting the ground and rolling from the Force assisted leap, he held the weapon up and slashed for the Ssi-Ruuk’s arm.

“Get out of here.” He called to the woman who ran. This wasn’t a place for her. The Hunter slashed with the sword before tossing it to his left hand, and that was when his fist started to almost glow, it was a dark light, a dark blue light, and he punched the Ssi-Ruuk, knocking the beast back.

Ruby felt her heart pounding. Even as she ran, a deranged smile lit up her face. So, she might not have had the most solid of plans, but she'd figured she'd duck behind another pillar up ahead before continuing her attack. But plans change. Her eyes narrowed, and she skidded to a halt when the Ssi-Ruuk no longer pursued her. Turning a quick glance over her shoulder, she saw a blur of motion.

A rush of a man with green-hued skin caught her eye, and then the weapons he wielded against their opponent. Ruby heard him shout at her to get out, but that just made her stubborn side stand strong. Watching as the alien man summoned some kind of attack and knocked the beast back, her dark-lined eyes widened slightly. Not bad.

Turning on a heel, she spun around and headed towards the man—not the opposite, what he wanted her to do. Raising her blaster again, she fired off three shots...

This time, she didn't miss.

As the Ssi-Ruuk slumped to the ground, she shot a glance at the Mirialan as if to say, “What?”

If these strikes were hurricanes, then he was the eye. Bacu was not many things, but when chaos was reigning, he knew where he stood. It may not always be on the side of the protector, hell, most times it wasn’t. He was the one who proposed the strike, proposed the how and the where. And then he made it happen. This strike would be lead by his team, but it was masterminded as a hit that needed to happen by Bacu Topol. But there were always variables that changed things.

Variables like the brave civilians, the ones who were diving in and throwing things for a loop. But that didn’t matter. Bacu had a few other tricks up his sleeve. And pulling attention to himself, really, almost anywhere he went, was something he was good at. The nimble-for-his-size Mirialan had thrown the Force at a Ssi-Ruuk and knocked them back before he looked over his shoulder at the woman.

With her shots having a true aim, he looked at the fallen raptor then back at her, his dark eyes narrowing. The fight was moving and he wanted to get after her. “Who the hell are you?” His sword down towards the ground as he put it away, reaching for his bowcaster again.

Though the most immediate thread had been dropped, the battle continued, but the sounds were becoming distant. Ruby stood, undaunted by the Mirialan warrior and his imposing disposition. She returned his narrow-eyed glance with one of her own, lifting her chin slightly as she spoke, “Ruby Jaxx.”

Not that she expected him to have heard of her. And before she forgot, she added, “I'm with the O.R.C. If that means anything to you.”

Her eyes darted for a moment, scanning their area. Ruby was not a trained soldier or anything like it, but she kept alert. Back on Irith, she'd managed to stay alive by keeping her wits about her (well, most of the time). This would not be any different. As she stepped closer, she sized the Mirialan up. He was much taller and broader than she, of course, and quite muscular, too. He'd already proven that he was a formidable opponent. Now, she just wondered if he would keep after the Ssi-Ruuk or possibly turn on her.

And who the hell are you?” Ruby returned the question, but she nodded towards the sound of the fight. “I think we're missing out on the fun.”

Jaxx. Wasn’t a name he knew. Someone new to the Rim? He wasn’t sure. It wasn’t any name that really screamed ‘core’ or anything. Not like say Starchaser, there were names that just felt like they came out of the Core. Jaxx, that was short, something that could be anyone. Didn’t matter. Aliens anyway, but she looked human enough. For the time he could see her. “You’re with ORC?” Yeah and he said it as one word.

What are you doing out here? He wanted to ask. They were in the former Federation and Order space, not current Outer Rim Coalition. “Bacu Topol. Storm Battalion.” Like his battalion was even something recognized by the Coalition. As he spoke, the bowcaster opened to its typical image, looking only slightly larger for the Mirialan than it should be. “And we are.” He turned and squeezed the trigger twice, two green blasts hitting enteched soldiers and pulling attention away from the group.

Splitting them would be better.
“Why are you out here?” He demanded as he pulled himself behind cover as more shots broke out. His free hand was going through his belt as he pulled out a concussion grenade. Activating it, he lobbed it at the enteched, it would explode and hit them with a blast of kinetic energy to stall them.

Ruby nodded to confirm she was with ORC, even if only just. She'd barely been there before skipping out on Starchaser. He kept promising action and hadn't delivered—and she was not the kind to sit around and wait for battle... if there was something happening out there; she was going to find it.

And she did.

She was just about to acknowledge his name when he shot at a group of enteched soldiers rushing up ahead and watched as some broke away to pursue them. Ruby followed the large Mirialan behind cover, narrowing her eyes at his voice rose above the sounds of battle. She waited until after the concussion grenade had gone off before answering.

I overheard this guy – Coren– mention stuff happening on Varonat,” Ruby said, peeking out from behind the cover. “I wanted in. So, here I am.” Simple.

The grenade had done the trick, the large group broke up. A few still managed to stir, so she steadied herself against the slab of concrete that was their cover, and fired off a couple of blaster bolts.

Great, another person trying to bring the wrong sort of order to the Rim. Yes, the Coalition was doing what they could, but the worlds that they had found themselves on were far and few between, definitely barely colonies. What the Rim needed was a stronger hand. Judges were better than Jedi, but still, only moderately. The Fringe Federation, now that was real power. But, beggars couldn’t be choosers. Out here, a gun was probably the best way to solve a problem, but sometimes, it needed to be more than the hand cannons the Judges had. The Hunter had his bowcaster and larger weapons. It made things a whole lot easier.

A few seconds of calm after the explosion and he looked to his new companion. Coren… Great. Starchaser’s reach was a bit wider. Still, the man was working on being the biggest Jedi in the galaxy, and knowing where the fight was? Bacu supposed that was all part and parcel. And the help he gained? It tended to help. But if the Jedi knew what he was up to, it wasn’t going to be a far reach for others.

“We’ll deal with that once we clear this city. You good at tracking?” He was watching the group run. He could hear blaster shots far off. Tapping his earpiece he called out. “Storms, sound off.” Needed to see where he could help protect.

With the action heading off into the distance, Ruby knew they'd need to get moving in order to catch up. While she normally worked alone, she wasn't opposed to joining forces with the Mirialan warrior at her side. Well, if it meant that he got shot at instead of her – he was the bigger target, literally.

“Tracking?” Ruby repeated, a brow arching high. “No. Once you get to know me, you'll find that I'm pretty rubbish at most things.” Not a lot of help, no. “But, it sounds like they are headed... that way.”

Ruby nodded that direction with her head.

“If we're fast enough, I bet we could cut them off.”

It seemed logical that two people running and avoiding the battle could easily sneak up on those that were concentrated on fighting said battle. Moving into a crouched position, she prepared to leave the cover of the concrete slab. Glancing out, the coast was pretty clear, so Ruby darted ahead. Looking back at [member="Bacu Topol"], she waved him forward.

“We're good—you go ahead.” she said, totally leaving out the part about her plan to use him as a humanoid shield... if it came to that.

The Mirialan was not too interested in using her as a shield, merely as a distraction. If she was able to take one route and he another, maybe they’d see her first. He was a bit larger than her, even for a Mirialan, but sometimes, a few other people could cause a distraction. He knew he wasn’t about to sneak into the fight, he wasn’t about to think himself an infiltrator or a shadow. No, he was a warrior, tried and true.

His dark eyes looked at her and he smirked. “Right.” He nodded as he checked the powerpack of his bowcaster. Nodding, he let it hang to his side as he checked the rest of his weapons. Spear, sword. He was a bit better armed now. Also, the Force. He sighed, letting his breath equalize and relax. He could feel them out there, sensing their direction. “Come on.”

As he listened to her, and prepared, he heard the Storms calling in, no casualties, but a few wounded. They’d handle them soon. “Some of my team are down, congrats. You’re helping.” She had slowed him down. It wasn’t like he was about to sacrifice her. They needed people. The man started to make his way down the road, at a quick pace. Focusing on himself, there was definitely the sense of revitalization around the man as he ran forward.

It would only be a few minutes before he’d catch up, and he intended to dive right into the fray.

Ruby couldn't help but roll her eyes at Bacu's comment, but there was a smirk on her face as well. Maybe she was helping, but she was really just excited to be part of the action, finally. She wanted to test herself; she wanted to see just what she was capable of. And she recognized her reckless streak, but she was willing to indulge it.

She said nothing as Bacu ran past, and she followed along after him. Ruby was slightly surprised by the warrior man's speed, he was faster than he looked. As she ran, she noticed that she didn't even feel out of breath... in fact, she felt pretty energized.

Speeding along the ruins, she could hear the sounds of battle to her right.

They were getting really close now, and it would only be a matter of time before the two of them pushed ahead of the fighting. To the side, there were flashes seen out of the corner of her eyes, along with the red streaks of blaster bolts. The yelling got louder, too—shouts of rage and pain.

Casting a glance towards Bacu, her darkly lined eyes widened slightly. With that, she began to charge in to back up the others and hopefully take some enemies by surprise. And she was sure that the Mirialan was about to do the very same...

As a Fringer, a Hunter, and aa warrior, he didn’t have time for small talk. What Bacu and his team were here for was to scare off the remnants of the Ssi-Ruuk and the First Order. Once the populous were free of their rule, then he and the Storms could move on out. What he was hoping to do was get back towards the Coalition space, resupply, and check their contracts. From there? Who knew?

He wasn’t very dextrious but the Force granted him some capability to be faster than many surmised. The man was the type who would hit hard, but he wasn’t exactly the type to move all that quick. As soon as he got in range, he was pulling out his spear, and then launched himself in a Force fueled leap. Lancing, he swung the Forcesaber-spear at two of the raptors. A warriors call as he spun on his heel to slam the front of the weapon at the third raptor.

The Storms were taking shots at the fleeing Ssi-Ruuk while taking cover from the First Order. The latter group was entrenched, but they were focused on the threat to life. The First Order, they could chase them around all day, but sentients being enteched? That wasn’t good for anyone.

“Push them back!” He shouted out as he used the Force to assist with his throw of one of the raptors.
