Building a Base

Melkor grinned as he drew up the plans for the military base he had been given permission and funds to build. It was magnifecent and terrifying all at once, the perfect place for The Black Hand of the Red Ravens to conduct its business. He had drawn up everything to completion down to the furnishings of the suits in Central Command. Now all he had to do was begin construction.

His list of objectives went as follows

  1. Build the wall- easy to do just a tedious effort to be sure.
  2. Install shield generators with a radius of one mile outside the base.
  3. Install turrets and cannons.
  4. Hook up powercells generators for everyday poweruse
  5. (Slicers check this) Hook up closed circuit systems and hard wire only transmissions.
  6. (Slicers again) Set up frenquency jammers
  7. Set up Laser Gate systems
  8. Perform activation and field check on all systems

Mitch was standing outside the perimeter of the soon to be built wall. It was a colossal feet, with most of the solid stone blocks weighing in at over a ton. The wall was about making a huge square one square mile around the base. It was a true masterpiece of engineering as it contained four miles of sensor cables spread through-out the wall, though grooves in-between the blocks . But the true labor of love was in the builders who were building it. Around the entire sight you could see cranes, bulldozers and fusion welders working to make this masterpiece come to life.

But Mitch had to get back to work. He got back in his own crane, deciding that his break was over. He felt a sense of purpose as his massive machine picked up the large stone block, It was almost 15x15, easily large enough to kill anyone who was caught playing around the construction site, and he knew for a fact that his bosses would not bat an eye if someone did die. He had taken this job knowing that he was under oath just like everyone here, and if anyone breathed a word of this? They were dead. But he Was being paid obscene amounts of money for all of his troubles and he knew he needed it.

It was three days later and he his section of the wall was almost finished. A quarter of a mile long, and 50 feet high it towered above everything in sight. Mitch glanced behind him as the welders put the finishing touches on the 15 inch thick plating of durasteel on the outside of the behemoth. There wasn’t much that would be able to get through this wall, just the sheer size and density alone of the beast. It spanned from 50 feet up to 30 ft down, and the only plans for it were kept solely by The Nexus Overseer’s who made sure that no one got away with them.

Cryax Bane stumbled onto the construction site looking like something the Cathar dragged in. He'd been out on the town the entire night and into the morning, drinking with the Red Ravens and he felt like he'd been rode hard and put away wet. He had brought a rolling case of equipment with him, circuits, servos, wires, hard drives, plus all his tools of the trade. He was the guy the Ravens called when they needed someone to make stuff work.

The sounds of the cranes and jackhammers only exacerbated his painful headache. The cranky Chiss looked around at the other builders, "Does anyone know where I can find the foreman? I need to know where you guys are planning on putting the central computer. The Holo blueprint didn't tell me anything."

Though his mood might have been foul, he reminded himself that the the Nexus Central was a pretty exciting project. It meant that the Ravens would have a military base on Antecedent, one tough enough to withstand even a Black Suns siege. As the Ravens enemies continued to line up, Cryax was glad he could help his organization batten down the hatches for the coming storm.

One of the workers looked at the Chiss Slicer. He grinned and said " Well I am assuming that they go in Central Command, That tall building in the middle of the base you cant miss it!." He turned back around and went back to working on section of the wall. Picking up his welder he began to weld the Durasteel plating onto the stone.

Melkor had called Cryax the night before, and asked him to come out here and make stuff work. He had his gaurds on the perimeter keep an eye out. Walking out to where he had been spotted he saw the Chiss. He grinned as he saw his friend. He opened his arms and said "Welcome to the future home of The Nexus, the power house of the Red Ravens". He had a giant grinn on his face, thinking of how much work The Nexus would be able to get done once this place was operational. He smiled and said "So let me direct you to the center of our operations.

Location: Military base building grounds.
Objective: Get this wall together.

"Move it to the left ya fools!"

Colap roared over the machines and the whining of torches as he stood drunkenly on the top of a crane arm. The crane was moving and he was balancing as it moved. It was a new hobby of his, crane surfing!

In his dirty coveralls and tan t shirt he watched as another section of the wall was moved into place. They had been doing this for hours and it wasn’t getting any easier. Suddenly there was a loud crash as one section grated against another and he was almost thrown from the top of the crane.

"Frak stop stop STOP!"

Finally the operator stopped the crane.

"Alright back it up and try again, and stop scratchin the damn walls all up!"

Walls were overrated in the opinion of the Sith, good for keeping out critters and the odd bandit, but against an airborne enemy it was easily breached. Still it was his job to help so Daxton had arrived with two dropships filled with labor droids. As soon as they landed, they began unloading the droids which deployed as soon as possible.

Droids were the ideal labor pool, able to work tirelessly with no complaint, they would be set to labor relentlessly until their task was complete. Half the droids were tasked to work on the wall, while the rest were given the task of installing the shield generators.

Daxton smiled as the droids swarmed to their tasks like worker drones. It was only a matter of time before this base would be operational, another spear point in the Sith's grand plan.

Objective: Setting up walls

"We require more minerals....er fuel yeah that’s the one."

Colap shot the droid a crazy look. Of course the droid didn’t care but he sure as hell did. There was work to be done and these droids were mucking about. He'd always had bad luck with those little buggers too.

"You're gonna require new circuits if ya dont do your job buddy."

They continued on, Colap crane surfing as the next section went down and the worker droids warmed it torches and plasma cutters.

The droid glanced Im the organics direction one more time before going back to work. It did not follow logic that they would be reassigned to this project at this time, however the master had given this top priority. Reaching out to the droid network, shared blueprints with its fellow droids so as to maximize their effectively. By its projection the droids would cut down the time to lay down this wall by 40 percent so the master droid belayed orders for the units under it.

Cryax walked with Melkor to the central command building. He smiled at the man's enthusiasm for the project. Then that blasted Ticon was screaming from the top of a crane, and the noise ratcheted his headache up a few notches. Once the Chiss got to the tower, he saw that he had his work cut out for him. He was going to have to hard-wire the systems from scratch. And that was just the beginning. Once the central computer was hooked up to a network, which could take all day, there would be all manner of defensive-slicing safeguards to install. Not to mention the frequency jammers.

The Chiss sighed as he started unfurling cables and wires. This was going to take a while.

Taking a silver flask from his hip pocket, Daxton swirled it around for a second before taking a swig of the amber liquor. Wincing as the brandy burned down his throat, before handing it to one of his companions. "How many troops would this base support? Will it provide armor and/or logistical support? Has anyone considered defenses against orbital bombardment?"
