DESCRIPTION

BT-Sarn is an advanced technology company which is jointly owned by Lyra Sarn and Nicademus Blith. Nicademus bank rolls the company while Sarn provides the advanced talent necessary to keep operations running efficiently. The companies main intention is to develop advanced technology for both open market and government contractors. This company however at the end of the operates solely at the behest of Lyra Sarn's whims, which can take them from making electronic jammers for military sale to making handheld game consoles that explode when they receive a particular radio signal. These strange devices often seem to have no practical person but to the person who created them, and others are so bizarre that it is questionable it was even designed by a person. Explosive toaster ovens, computers that can only calculate in multiples of two, jammers that jam every frequency but the one you set it to, are conflated with actual useful products like improved macrobinoculars, more efficient moisture vaporators, and other advances. The company is a mixed bag of genius talent and random antics; much like the person who runs it.

BT-Sarn is very rarely ever actually profitable, relying mostly on bankroll from the much more profitable Blith-Tech to remain solvent, but that is not the purpose of the company, the company is meant to be a collection of talent that develops advanced technology that would not be possible in an actually solvent company. This makes for an inventors paradise, where no idea is too crazy and no solution too far fetched. The staff of the company is a mix of geniuses, eccentrics, and mixes of the two, these are the kinds of people who were building hyper-matter annihilation reactors in their garage, supercomputers with nothing but old droid brains and some tin foil, and hyperdrives with old radar components and microwaves. They are the definition of crazy for the most part, and that is why they were selected, nothing gets done in the galaxy without a little bit of crazy.

The company is run in almost the exact opposite way as Blith-Tech, while Blith-Tech is a very clean and efficient ship, where not a single man hour is wasted and not a corner cut, BT-Sarn runs like a college cram fest. Time is spent as each researcher finds fit and money is no object, all nighters are common and cleanliness comes secondary to results. Projects that have no chance of ever being profitable are a common feature of the work-space, and this is ok. The point is to throw so much crazy at a wall that maybe they will find a diamond in the rough.

RATIONALE

BT-Sarn has a rather complex history which begins with a small run in between businessman Nicademus Blith and slicer Lyra Sarn at a bar on Abregado Rae, and while the details of this encounter are fuzzy at best, the end result was the beginnings of this company. Lyra was able to sway Nicademus with her technical knowledge, enough so that he was willing to bank roll her planned R&D colony on the planet Haven. However this was only the beginning. The colony took many months to complete, and it took even longer to collect the necessary R&D talent, but by that point Lyra wanted more. She wanted a business deal, she would provide advanced R&D talent for Nicademus in exchange for him bank rolling the entire operation, not just its construction. Nicademus was intrigued by this offer, and decided to accept it under the condition that he retain 35% ownership of the company. This deal was accepted and thus, BT-Sarn was born in its current form.
