Created by mad Chiss scientist Icthab'o'wen as part of a clandestine project to genetically engineer the perfect soldier from several strains of Zabrak DNA. Located on the Zabrak homeworld Iridonia, the effort was codenamed Project Bow (after the middle of Icthab'o'wen's name). The first clone was dubbed Bow-surrogate001, as his genetic code would be the template for all other subsequent Bow-clones. Kept in isolation from any of his successive brother clones and ignorant of his true origin, Bow-surrogate001 (called simply Bow) was given rigorous combat & tactical training during his early years.
However, his training was cut short at the age of 12 by a rogue Mandalorian Clan raid on Iridonia that destroyed most of Icthab'o'wen's compound. The scientist himself was killed, and Bow was captured by the Mandalorians of Clan Ijaat. Ironically, despite clandestine training and isolation, Bow possessed an honorable heart and a fighting spirit, which the Mandalorians admired. Renamed Bowa, the young Zabrak was taught the honorable ways of Clan Ijaat, even completing his Verd'goten (Warrior Birth) to become a true Ijaat Mandalorian.

By the time Bowa was eighteen, Clan Ijaat's following of Mand'alor the Preserver's teachings earned them the animosity of the current Mand'alor. Clan Ijaat, along with its ally clans Waadas, Choruk, and Beviin, were declared Dar'manda (Exile). After this act, Mand'alor declared an all-out crusade against them. A combined force of Ori'cyar'tomad (Fanatic) clans Kote, Werde, Dral, and Copad attacked the four exiled clans as they fled Mandalorian space. Bowa was one of the few survivors who managed to escape the attack along with a fatally wounded Vad Ijaat, the Aliit'alor (Clan Leader) of Clan Ijaat. As the Aliit'alor was dying in his arms, he told Bowa to keep the memory and traditions of Clan Ijaat alive. After the Aliit'alor died, Bowa was able to make his way to Coruscant. He was utterly horrified at the nature of the Mand'alor, and swore to seek vengeance. Fueled by honor as a Mando'ad, Bowa joined the Republic Military to combat the Mand'alor and his allies wherever possible.
