Description: The Book of Adjuration contains rituals to suppress and even sever the Force abilities of a target. Passed down in secret among senior Kilian Rangers, the Book of Adjuration permits a group of senior Force-sensitives to use the techniques in question via complex rituals. In this, the Book of Adjuration is comparable to the Holocron of Jem Wyzen. However, the Book of Adjuration also includes simplified and less effective versions of the rituals, meant for a single practitioner. The chivalric order's rituals are somewhat austere, formal, and medieval in nature; they involve icons and candles, among other things.

While writing the annotations and foreword to Mara Merrill's copy of the Book of Adjuration, Rave Merrill referenced the Wyzen Holocron at length. The annotations compare and contrast Jedi and Kilian techniques and philosophies; the foreword, based on a letter from Rave to her neice, focuses on the ethics of Sever Force. The Book's own text includes many ethical discussions on the same subject. In general, both the Book and Rave's annotations conclude that Sever Force is ethically equivalent to removing the hand of an attacker, in most circumstances.

It is crucial to note that the teachings of the Book of Adjuration do not, as a rule, allow a combatant to simply strip away an opponent's Force-sensitivity. The Book only teaches ritualized versions of the existing techniques known as Dampen Force and Sever Force (each in one group version and one individual version, for a total of four rituals). It is also important to note that the Book's teachings are of little use to anyone who is not a Master of the Force. The following examples may clarify:

PLAUSIBLE
  • A group of Masters performs one of the complete rituals on a single subject. The subject's Force abilities may be dampened or stripped away permanently.
  • A Master performs one of the simplified rituals in combat against a fellow Master. The subject's Force abilities may be partially reduced.
  • A Master performs one of the simplified rituals against a helpless, intensely distracted fellow Master. As with Nomi Sunrider's severance of Ulic Qel-Droma, the subject's Force abilities may be temporarily or permanently reduced or removed.
IMPLAUSIBLE
  • A Master performs one of the simplified rituals in combat against a fellow Master. The subject's Force abilities are completely nullified and the subject's Force connection is permanently affected.
OOC/ As with all techniques, it is important for the writer to make it clear that the targeted character's writer has autonomy in determining the result of an attack. The above guidelines suggest a general set of norms for responsible use of Sever Force and so forth, in case this book passes to another writer.
