Blood On My Feathers

Between the Hutt Cartel to the north and more unknown threats to the south of Techno Union space, Tmoxin Temi had contacted Kyber Salurra, Director of Security to strategize on ways to increase security without costing and arm, leg, tail or tentacle. While intelligence agents were still trying to figure out who had infiltrated Innote Q on Hypori, the Hapan knew that they couldn't wait much longer. It seemed that every day, the threats grew closer, and the stakes became higher to keep their valuable interests safe. Especially with rumors that Gerion Ardik had left the Executive Council - which pained Tmoxin because he had been her business partner once and had helped establish her on Kamino when she was a fugitive, hiding from the Sith. Yes, it was time to circle the proverbial wagons.

Via holocall, Tmoxin instructed Director Salurra: "Meet me on Roon, along with Draco, and we'll have some companies come in to pitch to us. This one called Shriek-Hawk looks promising."

The Hapan executive then made her way to the Roon conference center where the Executive Council held their votes. There would be time to kill waiting for her Techno Union colleagues, as well as Gilamar Skirata, the Shriek-Hawk owner, so she read over some financial reports for Morpho and watched the HoloNews Network.

Roon. Why Roon of all places?

It wouldn't be the first time he set foot on this planet, and it wouldn't be the last. As the Lazy Strill slipped out of hyperspace he was reminded of the first time he came to this planet. Then he was much, much younger and had a bone to pick with a Roonian who had crossed paths with the wrong Hutt. He remembered one of his first jobs fondly. Lots was learned then.

He still had much to learn.

But now he was done with those days. Now he ran his own outfit, left it for others to be in the field. Small as it was, they were growing. Deals like this one were spreading the word and more Mandalorians joined every day. Well...Maybe not every day. The Lazy Strill carefully navigated through the deadly asteroid ring that surrounded the planet, made much easier than the first time he came with the efforts of the Techno Union. Docked and decompressed the Mandalorian was greeted by a shiny black protocol droid and escorted via skycar to the Techno Union's Conference center. It was an impressive building and he found himself feeling a little jealous comparing it to MandalMotors tower.

The trip up to the correct floor was long but when he stepped from the sliding doors, his plaid button up and rough jeans looked no worse for wear than they normally did.

Abregado-rae is losing its reputation as a smuggler's haven. The Quarren are considered one of the most nostalgic races in the galaxy…

Tmoxin read this so-called information from her HoloNews Network news feed. How utterly unimaginative were the sound bytes from the giant news and entertainment conglomerate! Disgusted, she pushed away her datapad with an audible sigh. Then she glanced up and suddenly noticed Mr. Skirata, the owner of Shriek Hawk had entered the room.

The Hapan executive rose with a smile to greet the rugged man, dressed quite casually for a business meeting.

"Sit down, please. Commander Vereen and Mr. Salurra will be here momentarily," she said. "If you need anything in the meantime, like stimcaf or water, I can page Beulah who will bring those in."

The red-haired Dark Jedi sat across from him and con tinued, "While security has never been a problem with the Techno Union, there have been some recent threats to our borders lately. I'm interested to hear what Shriek Hawk can offer us."

I strode into the room to see an old ally, and former Mand'alor sitting across the table from my apprentice. "Ner'vod. Good to see you up and moving given your age." I said with a laugh, moving to my seat and giving him a friendly nod. We hadn't seen a lot of action together but everyone heard stories about what happened and everyone on Mandalore remembered his leadership fondly from what I could tell.

I took my seat beside Tmoxin, "I know I have told you just to call me Draco." giving her a look as I settled in. Certainly she was aware I was going to go to bat for the Old Mandalorian here, so I could only guess that is why she asked me to join her. Perhaps this Kyber guy wasn't keen on hiring the Shriek Hawks, and she wanted to hear both sides before making a decision.

It was kind of moot though, as she and I could make such a call on our own if we really wanted to, and what would probably happen if she turned him down. I didn't like to step on her authority, but if it meant a job for an ally, I would take that risk of going over her head.

He nodded, taking a seat opposite of the young Hapan and shook his head, patting his back seat pocket,
"I've got all the drink I need right here," he said, alluding to the flask of ne'tra gal he always kept on hand. Though weather or not she grasped what he was talking about was up in the air and moot. Though if she did it may have damaged his reputation, but he had no use for people who fed off of strict social norms and used them as a basis for their judgments.

Then Draco entered the room. He acted friendly, but he wondered if he knew the Republic had come to the Mandalorians for aid in his capture for working with the One Sith.

"Vareen." he said quite flatly. He had no love for the Sith and regardless if these Sith were the same or not he also had morals and the Sith no matter their incarnation went against all of them. If the Republic had put a price on his head he would spring into action and take this traitor down. But they didn't and quite frankly, though his body was preserved for a good ten years, he was still nearing his mid seventies and that made the old goat lazy.

"We offer more than security with Shriek-Hawk company ma'am," he shifted in his seat a little and leaned back, "Commando team insertion, scout recon, off the books assault, surveillance, VIP protection...Hell we'll guard your nephew's ninth birthday party if the pay's good."

Kyber entered the room shortly after Draco wearing nothing fancy, his normal attire fitting the occasion just fine as it was paired with his flash goggles, and as always, his Ryyk blades strapped to his legs and belt. He sat himself down with a light thud in the chair closest to the door next to Draco. Kyber wasn't into this whole negotiating business. The only reason he was there is because he lead the military and would be working with the mercenaries the man would be giving them. So, without a word he leaned back in his chair and let the others talk amongst themselves for the business portion. Kyber would keep his questions about the actual mercenaries until the end, or when he was asked to do so.

Tmoxin ignored Draco's pointed look at her. In professional company she liked to call him by his formal title. Of course, they were good friends - Draco was her Master, she his apprentice.
But she respected that he was a Commander at the end of the day. Still, it didn't seem to matter as he was already familiar with Gilamar Skirata.

The Hapan watched the Mandalorian pull out his flask. She had no problem with cocktail time this early, welcomed it in fact. Pressing the intercom button, she said, "Beulah, please bring in a bottle of Smuggler's Red."

Tmoxin's pretty, young assistant came in with the bottle of wine on a tray and several glasses, just about the same time as Kyber Salurra entered.

"I like the sound of this already," said Tmoxin, gingerly accepting a glass of red wine poured by Beulah. "Mr. Skirata, I'd like you to meet our Director of Security, Kyber Salurra. So now that we are all here, we can discuss any agreement details."

Gil nodded to Kyber politely,

"Salurra, pleasure. Hope to be working with you soon." He wasn't too sure about this man. Before his time in the Techno Union the Ori'ramikad hadn't picked anything up. An enigma in his rather long list of dossiers on people of interest in the Techno Union.

"I believe while I've given you a quick and dirty list of the services we provide, I'm not too clear on what sorts of things I should expect from you. When I know that I can...work out an effective and fair deal for my mercs."

"Of course, Mr. Skirata. While I used to hold security posts, I will leave it to my colleagues here to help you with the direction. The Techno Union has many valuable assets to protect - factories, plants, mining operations, banks... even casinos. But Kyber and Draco can give you more specifics on where your teams are needed and how to engage with us."

Tmoxin drank liberally from her glass of wine.

"In terms of payment, I know you need to hear specifics, but I think a retainer would be a good idea, with individual bonuses based on the assignment and performance of individuals."

Kyber leaned back in his chair whilst scratching his chin as he listened to the others speak. He wasn't one to conduct business deals such as this, never really his forte, but he was in a position where h had to be a part of this discussion. With a tired sigh Kyber leaned back up and placed his arms on the table. "I don't like the idea of paying untested mercenaries. I've never heard of you men and wouldn't pay them until I know they can deliver."

Kyber gave his neck a quick scratch before leaning back forward again and looking to Draco for his reaction before finally resting his gaze back to Gilamar. He wasn't trying to be mean or insulting to the businessman in front of him, he was just being honest. Subtlety was not one of Kyber's strong suits and he didn't honestly care if he cam off abrasive to the unknown man, he just wanted to make sure no money was being wasted and that he wasn't putting his men onto the battlefield with sub-par soldiers.
