Blessings and Cursings

A breeze blew through the trees as the smell of smoke from the funeral pyre filled the surrounding forest. If the young man who stood near it was capable of tears he would let them fall, but he was no longer able. Years of loss and tragedy had ensured this was a normal expectation of his path. Those he allowed himself to be close to would meet a tragic end. This was his curse, he was their curse. As the ashes dissipated, Asher knew it was time for one final break to sever him from any past as his destiny was to do penenace.

The forested world which had been his sanctuary was now a personal hell. His memories needed to be left with it. A holo of his dead wife and child was tossed onto the burning embers, and blue eyes watched as it was consumed and melted by the heat.

His mind was consumed with the need for to repay all the lives which had been lost. His hands were full of blood and he would pay the universe the rest of his life if he must. Asher no longer prayed to the gods because he knew they had cursed him. While his family had always told him he would do great things, Asher knew they were never more wrong. As the final bits of the holoimage disintegrated Asher sighed and walked away from the dissipating coals.

He returned to the small hut which had been his home and grabbed a bag which contained the few possessions the one item of importance to him was the lightsaber hilt he took from his mentor before burning his lifeless body. A sigh released from his chest as the hilt was stuffed into the bag. With one last look, Asher walked off and headed for the ship his mentor had hidden on the planet. It was time to find somewhere he could go and pay the penance he required of himself.

Unknown to the man his isolated planet was about to have a lot more action to it, as far above the atmosphere things were going very wrong for a certain Twi'lek; the cargo she was hauling turned out to be more of a plot for revenge from someone. She didn't know who she was hauling this for; payment was set up for arrival at her destination, but little did she know that hidden within the cargo were several emp devices.

As the charges went off the ship rocked as the backup generators tried to kick in, the ship pitching down into the gravitational pull of the forest planet below her; evidently this had all been planned out, a nice isolated planet for her to crash on and never be found. Lucky for her then that she kept a few systems on a separate power loop to the main one, such as life support and more important, escape pods. She sprinted towards the pods, climbing in as the ship started to rock from atmospheric entry, the whirring and grating sounds of the engines trying to warm up again sounding across most of the planet as the YT-2000 spun towards the planet's surface. Suddenly something else went wrong for the Twi'lek, as the release clamps for the pods were broken, she removed a panel in the pod, starting to work on the mechanism to fix it to release in the little time she had. Finally managing it the pod launched, fired upwards from the tumbling ship as she was knocked into the seat, securing the restraints as she leaned her head back, preparing for the landing as the freighter and pod smashed through several trees on the planet surface, the pod grinding to a halt.
