OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a gadget that makes it harder to detect weapon gas inside a blaster or container.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Black Market Outlaw Techs
  • Affiliation: Open-Market
  • Model: N/A
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Mass-Produced
  • Material: Durasteel, Tech Components
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Ability to mask the unique electromagnetic frequencies of conducting agents used for blaster bolts within a shipping container, blaster or similar device.
STRENGTHS
  • The device masks the electromagnetic frequency of a conducting agent within a blaster or similar technology. Sensors used to detect the presence of such gasses are unable to locate their unique signature while the device is in operation, instead, they show the signature of any other harmless gases or none at all (can be set by the user). This quality is imparted to the blaster bolt’s cohesion field also, masking the blaster bolt from those kinds of sensors.
WEAKNESSES
  • The gadget requires some power to run, syphoning it from a blaster’s power pack, usually, which means a reduced number of shots. It doesn’t draw much, but most will find their power source to be lacking about 5% of their power when in use. Alternatively, an external power source can be connected, but this adds to the bulk and weight of the weapon, making it more unwieldy in the process.
  • It actually does nothing to mask the physical blaster bolt itself, which glows with all the healthy colours of a normal blaster bolt as it zips towards whatever it was aimed at.
  • Nor does it hide the power pack from any sensors that would attempt to detect it. You’re on your own there, chief.
DESCRIPTION
The Blaster Gas Mask is a very single-minded piece of technology. Its only purpose is to hide the detectable signatures of anyone conductive agent used in blaster operation. Be it Tibanna or any low-powered alternative, when attuned to that gas’ specific electromagnetic signature the gadget begins scrambling the unique frequencies associated with those gases, confusing any sensors pointed at the blaster or similar device as to its contents in the process.

A blaster firing a bolt with this attachment active will also see the containment field imparted with alternating undercurrents that continue to mask the presence of said gas until the containment field dissipates and the bolt is rendered harmless, at which point there is nothing that keeps sensors from detecting the trace amounts of the gas left behind in the atmosphere.

While the original use of the attachment was almost specific to blasters, savvy smugglers quickly adapted the gadget for their operations, modifying gas-containers to house one of them to hide the presence of blaster fuel, like Tibanna, within. The tool worked well on the smaller containers, though its effects were limited to general, less particular sensor sweeps as the container exceeded about a metre or two’s size. Additionally, any power source not hidden inside such a container (which in itself can create lethal accidents when done improperly) is very likely to be easily spotted by even the most bored of customs agents upon visual inspection.
