Rationale: Blackwood Logistics was started by Augustus's parents, Jethro and Lilianne Blackwood. They began as a single tramp freighter bringing luxury goods between Kesh and Kal'Shebbol. The small size of the luxury goods, along with their low rates, allowed them to undercut a great many of the larger cargo handling companies who required a minimum amount to be ordered before shipping. With the growth that happened from such profits, they invested in a second freighter and provided larger consignments a low cost, local shipping company, while still running the luxury goods market with the original ship. Things went this way until they reached their current size roughly twenty years prior to Augustus taking over the company. They had reached a size where they were able to purchase a small trans-shipping station in orbit of Kesh with a frigate sized shipwrights facility attached. They designed and fielded a single freighter, but the costs to develop and produce their own ships proved too much, and they kept the shipwright facility for updating their ships. When Jethro and Lilianne died in the Netherworld event, Augustus inherited the majority stock his parents had kept, and a controlling interest in the company. Since taking it over, Augustus has put a large portion of the profit from the company into updating the fleet, ordering six new freighters from Corellian Engineering and putting them into service as both lighter than load shipping and full cargo space consignments.

Their ships can go anywhere in the galaxy, but their operating bases are in these three systems along the Rimma Trade Route. Blackwood has the capacity to produce ships for cargo handling, though those facilities have not been used in years except to update the existing fleet. Currently, any new ships coming into service with Blackwood will be purchased from the Galactic Market.
Augustus does plan to expand Blackwood Logistics in the future, to provide shipment protection and convoy leadership on routes he plans to set up. The object would be to get several concerns to agree to convoy with him, he will provide protection in the form of frigates and corvettes and they would pay him. That is the future, however, and for the moment the company only partakes in cargo shipments of all sizes.
