OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Landmark Name: Black Lake
  • Classification: Lake/Aquifer
  • Location: Denon, beneath District 3
  • Affiliation: Code Zero
  • Size: Medium
  • Population: Sparse
  • Demographics: Black Lake is sparsely populated by a scene that’s quite dynamic, fluctuating greatly as bands of people make their way through the area. A sample of the people who frequent Black Lake would be reminiscent of Denon’s greater population statistics, with a staggeringly saturated concentration of humans and near-humans. A small enclave of Bothans frequent the Lake, as well as smaller pockets of Duros, Ishi Tib, Quarren, and Gran.
  • Accessibility: While the Lake itself isn’t exactly a secret, it has been stigmatized as a den for criminals and smugglers. Most Denonites avoid the greater District 3 as it is, leaving very few who would have good reason to visit Black Lake; Those who do usually have business there, and have a family route in as well.
  • Description: Black Lake is an unconfined aquifer beneath the surface of District 3, with sprawling underground tunnels and nodes that run for a still-undetermined distance across the district. One such tunnel, colloquially known as the Vein, connects directly to the extended portions of Tomb Station. Throughout the network of natural caverns and the ruins of Denon’s old maintenance hubs, shady denizens have established ‘neighborhoods’ that they defend ruthlessly against outsiders and C-Sec.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Black Lake: The aquifer itself, namesake of the area and source of all its strife. Purifying the deeply contaminated water supply is an expensive and arduous task, but several gangs in District 3 have setup refineries to do just that. While the purified water itself isn't a lucrative commodity, the illegal products Black Lake gangs create with it keep the credits rolling in.
  • The Vein: A large tunnel that connect Black Lake's natural caverns to the abandoned metro tunnels of the Midnight Zone. Its recent discovery promises to be a great asset for cyber-runners, assuming they can keep it free from gangs and nosy corporate eyes.
  • Shrike’s Nest: Black Lake’s premier gang, the Night Shrikes, claimed a choice corner of Black Lake to stake their headquarters in. While other junkie gangs are more discreet and secure with their holdings, the Shrikes have amped up their territory with loudspeakers and strobe lights. It’s a never-ending party, unless you’re at the end of a neon blade.
  • Viper Bay: Situated on the edge of Black Lake, the CyberVipers have claimed an abandoned water treatment facility for their base of operations. They prefer a more brutish aesthetic, using barbed wire, spikes, and scrap-metal barricades to ward off unwanted guests.
  • Dutchman’s: Black Lake’s less vicious clientele prefer to stick closer to the surface, where the Moonfall District bleeds into the forgotten underground network. Among these surface shafts and tunnels is the notorious Dutchman’s, an exciting club with entertainment for all walks of life. It is owned by a scruffy Aqualish with an appetite for tradable information.
  • Moonfall Junction: The hellmouth where Denon's industrial sector dies into pitfalls and steep caverns has been eloquently dubbed the Moonfall Junction. This is where C-Sec activity is the strongest, though their intent certainly revolves around keeping the gangs pinned beneath the surface rather than clearing them out.
