OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

 • Intent: To create more versatile Fibercord

 • Canon Link: Fibercord

 • Restricted Missions: N/A

 • Primary Source: The Original

PRODUCTION INFORMATION

 • Manufacturer: Invented by Ivlyn Mecetti, manufactured by the Mecrosa Order

 • Model: N/A

 • Affiliation: The Mecrosa Order; more can be made as needed

 • Modularity: No

 • Production: Limited

 • Material: Biological materials strong enough to be used as fibercord; they’re certainly stronger than the usual material. The biological materials have been engineered to be stronger than durasteel, but because of their biological nature this comes with the trade off of something able to permanently die, be poisoned, and even get sick.

SPECIAL FEATURES

 • Bio-Fibercord - More versatile than normal fibercord, bio-fibercord can be attached and detached from surfaces as needed. Bio-fibercord has the same uses as other fibercord. As part of a grappling hook, though it only needs itself to grapple, for pulling things, et cetera. Additionally, this allows a Force user’s weapon to be attached to gauntlets, or have lightfoils or lightsabers connected. The bio-fibercord can also be shortened and lengthened as needed, meaning that it can also be used in place of the usual belt-loop.

Strengths:

 • Bio-fibercord is still very much a biological organism. Though it is extremely versatile, the object is vulnerable to things that all biological organisms are vulnerable to. It can contract illnesses, and it can die… permanently, with no chance of repair.

 • Poison - Dangerous poisons can cause the bio-fibercord

Weaknesses:

 • The bio-fibercord is still very much a living organism. Though it is very versatile, it is vulnerable to things that all biological organisms are vulnerable to. It can contract illnesses, and it can die… permanently, with no chance of repair. A sick bio-fibercord can be significantly weakened. A dead bio-fibercord is certain to break on the user, becoming far frailer than when alive.

 • Poison - The deadlier poisons in the galaxy can cause a need to replace the bio-fibercord because it is more sensitive than the usual piece of biotech. Poisons do require injection, however..

DESCRIPTION

The bio-fibercord came about during one of Ivlyn’s jousts against some common problems in the laboratory. The problem with the usual fibercords was that they were prone to being focused on doing a single thing, and didn’t have much adaptability. That meant that adapting for combat, and making changes as needed were next to impossible. In came her scientific capabilities. The bioengineering specialist may have knowledge in several fields, but in this one she was able to create the bio-fibercord.

With the bio-fibercord a Mecrosa Order member could attach their lightfoil to their armor’s gauntlets, or use a pair that were attached together. It could be shortened to be attached to the belt, without the need of a loop or a magnetic connector. It can’t really be abused very much (at least not in a way that I can see at the moment). It serves no offensive or defensive purposes. It is simply a tool.

If they get sick/die/etc, are there any issues that would arise from continuing to use this?

i.e; would the fibercord grow weaker or something?

It is a biological organism. If it is a virus infecting it, there's even a chance that the infection could transfer to Ivlyn's other equipment - or even herself (viruses can evolve perhaps multiple times every 24 hours; this is how we get strains, and viruses from other species infecting humans - like swine flu, for instance). So, she would dispose of it immediately if problems were detected. To answer your question, however, yes, in all likelihood the sickness would even progress and get worse, possibly causing it to simply break. There could also be other effects, however. If someone wanted to, in this universe they could design a bacteria or fungi that infects the item, carrying a contagious virus within it that will infect the wielder when the bio-fibercord literally starts secreting goo, or even exploding and covering the user in slime. Unfortunately, the same technology and theories that Ivlyn uses in her work can be used against her in a wide variety of ways, either on purpose or by accident, or perhaps she simply stumbled onto the wrong forest on the wrong planet and something there infected her bio-fibercord and led to it growing weaker.

To make this a genuine weakness, state that killing this fibercord will result in the weakening of its durability.
