The breeze in Ilic carried a different scent than Coruscant. It was clean, earthy, the kind of air that clung to skin and hair with the faint musk of damp wood and sun-warmed leaves. Since her recent relocation to New Cov, Eve had felt an immense weight lifted,. The city hummed with life, yet nature always felt a breath away, pressing in from the edges. Compared to the suffocating smog of Coruscant, it was a total blessing to be able to be here all the time. It was still strange, waking to birdsong again instead of speeders. Strange, but immensely welcome. She had missed it too much.

She adjusted the pack on her shoulder as they made their way past the Temple grounds and toward the overgrown path that led out into the jungle. The old training ground they’d heard about was supposedly just a half-day's hike away — long abandoned, reclaimed by vines and moss. Some said Jedi trained there during the old days, others claimed it had simply been forgotten when the temple fell into disrepair.

Aris walked alongside her, the boy who had once upon a time perhaps intimidated her with his stoic visage and manner, but after seeing much more together already Eve had learned to recognise something quietly steadying and fortifying in him. He didn’t fill the space with unnecessary words, and she liked that. There was a softness to his presence, like cool stone beneath feet; firm, but never harsh. In truth, it felt like he had always been like that, even since the 'droid incident'.

They hadn’t said much since setting off, but Eve didn’t mind the silence. It gave her time to settle her thoughts. To reach out through the Force and feel the whispering threads of green life around them. She caught the rustle of greenery overhead, the flit of a wing, the curl of a vine. In the corners of her senses, that loving warmth of Tigris was right there, encouraging, empowering, as it always was, established and fortified by their newfound bond.

A branch arched overhead, gnarled and twisted, heavy with pale blossoms. Eve ducked beneath it, letting her fingertips brush one of the petals as she passed. It left a trace of something floral and bittersweet on her skin. The plant reached back for her, gently; a curiosity rather than a warning. She smiled faintly.

The further they walked, the deeper the green became, vines thicker, the air heavier, as if the jungle were wrapping around them slowly, not with menace, but intimacy. Like it was watching. Listening. Testing, as always. But she knew what to expect now, and it felt like more of an invitation.

"Thanks for inviting me, Aris," she said finally after a while, shooting him a soft smile. "I'm glad we can do this, and here."

It'd been too long since he was last on New Cov. It was with Valery Noble Valery Noble , when he was still figuring out how he would be a Jedi to begin with. When he learned how to better control his strength, where he found his mother's old lightsaber that he still carried. It was on his hip even now, but he doubted he was going to need it. Nothing in this jungle was a threat to him, after all.

He smiled softly as he looked over the jungle. The trees, all so different and intermingled, was such a wonderful sight to behold. Nature was as ever a chaotic place in it's most natural state. A flash of flame erupted beside him as a bird of all things landed on his shoulder. Cinder, just as much a part of fire as Aris could be. They were excited.

Incredibly so. Aris didn't take them outside near enough.

His gaze shifted to the other here with him though. He smiled in turn, giving Eve a simple nod of his head. "I'm glad you came. I'm not the best at really talking to people. Or keeping up with them. I'd like to change that."

Eve glanced toward him when he spoke, her smile softening even further at his honesty. There was no awkwardness in his words, only sincerity, and something about that made her relax all the more.

"I think you're doing just fine," she said gently, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear as they stepped over a patch of soft moss. "Not everyone needs to fill space with words. I like the quiet ones." She grinned.

She looked ahead again, breathing in the rich, earthy scent of the jungle. The air was heavier now, like it carried memories. The Force was alive in every branch and stone, and she could feel it responding to their steps. Cinder caught her eye then, that little flame-bright blur perched on Aris' shoulder. She smiled at the sight, tilting her head just slightly in quiet admiration.

"They like it out here," she said. "I can feel it." A beat. "You too."

Eve paused for a moment, letting her fingers graze the bark of a passing tree. There was a small scar in the wood, healed over, but still visible. She let her hand rest there a moment, then moved on.

"I think it's good... That you want to connect more with others," she said after a while. "Connecting with even one person... That's already something important."

She didn't say 'you're already doing it' — she didn't have to — but it was there in the calm of her voice, in the steady, easy rhythm of her steps beside his, like this wasn't the beginning of something, but simply the quiet continuation of it.

"Cinder hears up when they're happy. Sort of. It's more like a comforting warmth you'd get with a blanket." It was how he knew what Everest was saying was true. Cinder did love it here. Being out and about, flying through the air and the like. Aris certainly was going to have to make sure he did this more. He continued to scritch under the chin of the bird before he let his hand fall away and turned to follow after Everest.

"It's difficult, though. I still don't really get people or how to connect with them. Zaiya's been real understanding of it, which has been nice. She's really helped out a lot, but I can't say I'm good at it, or have really succeeded outside her." The others just drifted away. He didn't know how to talk to them, how to be their friend, or if he even still was at this point.

He hoped he was, but he didn't really get how to even know.

"You've been here before. Is there somewhere we're heading?"
