DESCRIPTION

'Shreds of black cloud loom in overcast skies.
The Necromancer keeps watch with his magic prism eyes.
He views all his lands and is already aware
Of the three helpless invaders trapped in his lair...'

Listening Posts are expensive pieces of equipment to operate and, obviously, the Helix Syndicate could never afford to maintain one in every single system it wants to keep an eye on. That is, unless the function of a listening post could be sufficiently downsized into a smaller, but more finely focused device. After years of research and development, the Helix Syndicate designed the Bellamont-Class Observation Satellite to narrow the gaps in its informational drag net.

The primary goal of the Bellamont-Class Observation Satellite is to intercept planetary communications, decrypt them, and then relay them to the nearest Ungolim-Class Listening Post for analysis and storage. The Bellamont-Class thusly comes equipped with a variety of highly sensitive sensor equipment and long-range communications devices. Each Bellamont-Class is highly attuned to its parent Ungolim-Class Listening Post and is able to discretely transmit its information to them through the secretive HSNET, which is described in more detail here.

Although not its primary purpose, the Bellamont-Class also has a high powered camera for surface reconnaissance. This camera is able through a number of settings, such as infrared, heat, and ultraviolet, in order to make sure nothing on the surface escapes the Helix Syndicate’s prying eyes. Unless of course there is an obtuse physical barrier, stygium cloaking device, or some other obstruction preventing direct viewing. It should also be noted the Bellamont-Class, like many observation satellites, can be fooled through decoys. And in order to remain hidden from the eyes of other intelligence gathering enthusiasts, each Bellamont-Class contains its very own stygium cloaking device. Coupled with the innocuous ways in which it transmits information, the Bellamont-Class is almost virtually undetectable without direct knowledge taken from the Helix Syndicate.

Other than that, a solar converter is built into the satellite so that it can passively recharge as it is exposed to solar energy. There are also a series of thrusters allow enough maneuverability to maintain its orbit without crashing down to the surface. The Bellamont-Class is capable of maneuvering out of the way of various space debris or meteorites, but otherwise is fairly fragile- highly vulnerable to destruction if somehow detected.

There are known canon sensors on a ship this size that can count the individual leaves on a tree from orbit. So I think there's good canon precedence for having really good visual sensors that can see things happening from orbit. However, I am exceptionally leery of the use of "nothing on the surface escapes the Helix Syndicate’s prying eyes" because it doesn't take into account special circumstances (such as special terrain), or that this is a stationary satellite. I'd like to see these issues addressed in this section of the submissions.

Most of each listening post’s infrequent transmissions are piggybacked onto mundane ones so as to escape suspicion.
What transmissions are these being piggybacked on?

Sorry about that. Bit of an exaggerated statement on my part. I have updated the paragraph to read as following:

"Although not its primary purpose, the Bellamont-Class also has a high powered camera for surface reconnaissance. This camera is able through a number of settings, such as infrared, heat, and ultraviolet, in order to make sure nothing on the surface escapes the Helix Syndicate’s prying eyes. Also, that entire last paragraph was accidentally a hold over from a previous submission. I must have accidentally copied and pasted it as well. It has been redacted.
