GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Bedlariim
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Ahk-Ourobha
  • Average Lifespan: Ninety Years
  • Estimated Population: Inter-Planetary
  • Description: The Bedlariim are an offshoot branch of humans, shaped and tempered by their inhospitable homeworld of Ahk-Ourobha. They are a hardy people, quick of mind and foot and able to survive in many inhospitable environments due to their grit and inginuity.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average Height of Adults: 1.68 meters
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Darker natural skin tones
  • Hair color: Black, Brown, Dark Auburn
  • Distinctions:
    • Colorful Eyes: Generations of consuming Dust either ritually in large doses or through minor exposure from their environment the eyes of the Bedlariim have adopted many strange and vibrant colors. The iris and sclera of Bedlariim eyes both have color, and these colors do not necessarily have to match and are typically bright shades with some even considered neon. Those Bedlariim who were raised off off Ahk-Ourobha typically have dimmer though still colorful eyes.
    • Built in Filters: The noses of the Bedlariim are host to a complex system of hairs that filter out particles of sand and dirt while trapping water in the body.
    • Leathery Skin: The skin of the Bedlariim is often described as rough and not as soft as typical human skin. This adaptation comes from their bodies' need to trap more water in their bodies than is typical of a human. While slightly tougher against scrapes and small cuts this provides no real defensive advantage against modern weapons.
  • Races: The Bedlariim are divided into several distinct ethnic groups that hold different territories across Ahk-Ourobha. At one point these groups fought with one another, but in modern days all consider each other kin as fellow Bedlariim.
The Hralahkthi

Around the northern pole of Ahk-Ourobha is prime realistate, and it is here the Hralahkthi call home. They are a tall people with skin that resembles laterite stone and its many shades of red and hair which is typically brown and black in color. Traditionally their people have been moisture-farmers relying on the Hral vines that grow in their rocky homeland to harvest the "vast" quantities of water that come with the daily morning dews in the coldest parts of Ahk-Ourobha; the northern valleys and caves. In recent centuries the introduction of vaporators from off-world trade has seen their population grow even more from its already large numbers. Now the Hralahkthi are the most common ethnic group within the Bedlariim, making up almost 40% of the total interstellar population.

This population growth has always made the Hralahkthi a more urbanized people, their rocky homeland making the perfect sanctuary from the Thahbalahn which dominate the Great Desert around Ahk-Ourobha's equator. The greatest cities on Ahk-Ourobha were built by the Hralahkthi people, great metropolises carved into vast valleys made of stone and steel. When outsiders first came to Ahk-Ourobha it is within these cities they settled, finding welcoming neighbors due to the Hralahkthi's xenophilic culture. This mixing of peoples has made many Hralahkthi have some level of alien blood and most have a positive attitude towards space travel.

Many others on Ahk-Ourobha have come to view all Hralahkthi as lazy and pampered as technology has progressively made northern cities more comfortable and stable. Air conditioning, plentiful water, and crops genetically modified to thrive on Ahk-Ourobha have brought these cities up to the galactic standard. While it is true that more and more urban Hralahkthi have come to view the old ways as unimportant or a useful stepping stone to the future now surpassed, many Hralahkthi who live on the outskirts of civilization in the countless cave-towns and homesteds in the polar wilderness hold just as true to the old ways as anyone from the Great Desert.

The Bahdliyya

kamen-anev-fremen-with-palanquin-kamen-anev-01-hd.jpg

Among the million dunes of the Great Desert one will find the Bahdliyya, a short and stout people whose skin resembles various shades of ebony with typically black or auburn hair. The Bahdliyya have survived on Ahk-Ourobha due in part to their fierce warrior culture which emphasizes personal martial prowess and their devoutness to The Twice-Coiled Path. While all Bedlariim are trained in the survivalist ways of their people the Bahdliyya further train their progeny in a variety of martial arts and marksmenship mixing both traditional methods with methods adopted from off world sources. While traditional martial arts are venerated and kept alive through ritual combat in duels, petty trials, and non-lethal gladitorial games the Bahdliyya interpret part of their religious duty of gathering knowledge to be creating a 'perfect' martial art which combines all knowledge regarding the subject.

This martial art, known as Qabliyya, has been forged through centuries of training and replacing imperfect techniques with better ones found in other practices. It focuses primarily on ambushes and hand-to-hand combat with fists, knives, and short swords but has teachings to supplement these with hand-held firearms. Some Mandalorian martial arts and even lightsaber forms have been dissected and integrated into Qabliyya. Those who master Qabliyya are truely dangerous warriors and are given the title of Qabayken.

Qabliyya is not only used for meditation and exercise, and its use has been put to use for centuries as the Bahdliyya raided and pillaged communities, both foreigner and Bahdliyya alike, to assure the dominance and survival of their individual societies. While such conflicts are resolved in ceremonial combat between groups in modern times the Bahdliyya long settled greivences between cities, towns, guilds, and even families in brutal blood-wars. Outside of these conflicts the Bahdliyya would go north to raid Hralahkthi settlements for water, slaves, food, and other loot. This near constant state of war and lack of readily available resources has given the Bahdliyya a reputation as desert bandits and zealots. Even to this day those who traverse the Great Desert must keep a careful eye out for Bahdliyya raiders, even if the practice is not as common as it had once been. Most Bahdliyya settlements exist underground in complex cave networks or on great mesas that jut from the Great Desert like islands from the ocean. The location of these settlements is a closely guarded secret, and much technology is used to hide their exact location from planetary scans. The exact population of Bahdliyya is unknown, but it is believed to account for around 20% of the total Bedlariim population.

The Bahdlarahn
Cousins to the Bahdliyya are the much friendlier Bahdlarahn, an average sized people who share the ebony black skin and black or auburn hair of the Bahdliyya. The Bahdlarahn inhabit a network of stone islands across Ahk-Ourobha's equator and northern hemisphere. These islands are connected by a complex system of trade routes which are braved by Bahdlarahn merchants who seek wealth and glory in an eternal pursuit of trade. These merchants usually serve the merchant-lords of the Bahdlarahn, business tycoons and industrialists who rule the island-cities with a golden fist. This wealth in ancient times was derived through the transporation of rare goods, mostly metal, water, and food. But in recent years these cities act as the main extraction hubs of Dust shipping them to the northern space ports and then ultimately the galactic market. While seen as sacriligious by the more devout members of the Bedlariim, this trade has proven incredibly lucrative to the planet's economy and more importantly: the merchant lords of the Bahdlarahn.

The Bahdlarahn cornered the Dust market early when Ahk-Ourobha was introduced to the galactic market due to the Bahdlarahn's inventive and utilitarian culture. They are constantly pushing to develop new technologies and captitalized on new resources. It is the Bahdlarahn who first mapped Ahk-Ourobha in their quest to explore and exploit, and it is the Bahdlarahn who connected the many seperate societies who were divided by the Great Desert with Bahdlarahn trade caravans. The Bahdlarahn, however, do not typically seek to swindle or undercut their business partners. But many stories have long explained away the wealth of the Bahdlarahn as the result of cheating and unreliable merchants. Those who do business with the Bahdlarahn know these myths are untrue stereotypes, but they persist to this day as a stain on the Bahdlarahn's reputation.

Force Sensitivity: Standard

Strengths:

"You Must Survive": The Bedlariim have spent generations on Ahk-Ourobha and its brutal environment has shaped them. Bedlariim's blood clot much faster, they need a third less oxygen than normal humans, and do they not receive sun burns. On top of all of this the Bedlariim's immune system is advanced and is able to fight off most natural infections with ease.
"You Must Comprehend": The Bedlariim are a quick witted people able to visualize and come to conclusions much faster than basic humans. Most spend their entire lives being trained in the ways of their people giving them skills in hand-to-hand combat, survivalism, and knowledge of basic engineering. Those not raised by their people do not benefit from this knowledge.

CULTURE

  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Communication: The Bedlariim have their own language known as Lariic
  • Technology level: Galactic Standard
  • Religion/Beliefs: At the core of all Bedlariim beliefs is their faith of the Twice Coiled Path
  • General behavior: [ Describe general behaviors such as: family life, values, how they raise their young, how they find mates, how they interact with the world and other species around them. Do they hunt? Do they build? Are they inventors? Are they explorers? Are they nocturnal or diurnal? Do they attend schools? Etc, etc. ]

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
[ Include a description of the species history here. If your species is genetically engineered or Sithspawn please describe the process through which they were created, by who, and why. Explain the various challenges encountered during their creation. Most galactic species will be quite old - include major events relevant to the species in how they evolved and developed into what they are today where appropriate. Including Chaos canon events, where they impacted the history of this species, is a plus.
