Strengths:
  • Reliable: The Nebulon A frigate was a reliable vessel despite its age. Able to fight toe to toe with other frigates and small cruisers what it lacked in speed it made up for in utility.
  • Firepower: A collection of powerful weapons made the Bador-Type a fearsome foe for smaller vessels. Its powerful tractor beams also made it a nuisance for pirates and smugglers.
Weaknesses:
  • Spar: Though armored from certain angles, the large spar that connected the engines to the rest of the ship if broken would vent large portions of the vessel, causing catastrophic destruction.
  • Slow: Slow to turn and slow to move forward, the Bador-Type was more like a lumbering rancor than a nimble sand cat.
Description: Developed as an alternative to its larger Nebulon-series frigates some time after the fall of the Republic, the Bador-Type light cruiser shared a similar design which included two sections of a ship connected by a long spar with the hangar being located along the spar. The Bador-Type was mostly utilized by smaller governments and planetary defense forces for its versatility, much like its bigger and more expensive cousins. Armed with powerful turbolasers, laser cannons, and missile tubes, the Bador-Type light cruiser shirked impressive communications suite, advanced sensor suites, and modularity for more powerful weapons, better armor, and advanced slave-rigged systems. These weapons and armor allowed it to fight larger vessels than itself, though its poor speed limited the vessel to patrols and guard duties.

Some time after the formation of the Corellian Confederation, the Corellian Defense Force began utilizing these cheap vessels to patrol various sectors of their space, including Socorro's Belt. These locations were often places that were important enough to defend but small enough to not require the presence of a Star Defender, Battlecruiser, or large task force of their own. They carried with them a modest complement of starfighters, with enough hangar space for two squadrons and space for . It was one of the few vessels in the Corellian fleet that could be loaded vertically into the hangars of the Colony II-class battlecruiser.
