Awakening of the Forgotten

Sparks rained from the sky.

Unit-6428 raised its optic sensor quietly, the faint sound of the servo clicking into place as the droid examined the lighting, the broken dish of light was hanging faintly to the rooftop by multi-coloured wiring. The Droid beeped an audible noise of annoyance, the lights could never be fixed; the droid can't even reach them.

Unit-6428 turned its optics back to one of its appendages, the clean mettalic sheen of it had mostly faded, leaving behind a partially rusted and corroded arm, yet in its two claw tips, it held a soft blue core, a powercell, just recently removed from one of the last working alarms on the station.

The Droid kept wheeling on its way, noting the ground of the old station as it moved, most of the hull had been welded shut, to keep everything from falling it, Unit-6428 had been forced to make more hasty adjustments to the area.

Unit-6428 continued to wheel by, noting another repair droid, its broken neck left leaning on the side of the hallways wall, it never turned back on, Unit-6428 gave up after approximately 2 earth cycles. How long had it been now? Perhaps the droids time tracking functions had been faulty, maybe it was faulty? It didn't matter anymore, the station still needed maintenance, that was all Unit-6428 was built for, maintain.

It finally reached its destination, a small cabinet door, one of the Units thin appendages moved away from the frame, tapping on the doorpad with a soft "clink" noise, coming from the quick tap of metal colliding. The door opened with a small pressurising groan, it was one of the rare doors that the droid had the materials to repair.

Within was an old droid, one of the peoples droids, Unit-6428 didn't understand what it did, it never saw it fix anything, but it was one of the last droids that might still be fixed; that was all that mattered. Unit-6428 whirled out the appendage holding the power cell, twisting it for a moment before placing it within the droids open chest with a firm click, watching the blue glow through its optics for a moment before glancing away, another failure.

It turned around on its wheeled tracks, glancing outward at the greyish white hallway with its crude black marks, its broken lights and sometimes a missing roof panel. The droid thought quietly, what else could it do? There was only a drone left, but how would it get the necessary pa-

Its thoughts suddenly ended as its auditory sensor picked up, it turned around rapidly with a soft revving noise from the action, the scrappish droids chest panel seemed to flicker, before slamming shut, the glow vanishing as its eyes flickered to life.
