Strengths:
- Ranges of All Kinds: As carbine, or a short barreled rifle, the Aurora Lance can work at just about the same range of your standard blaster rifle. Not too far under par. However, with the addition of a blade, the weapon is versatile to be used in melee and close quarter combat.
- Dual purpose: As a blaster style weapon, the blaster is first and foremost an energy based weapon. With the inclusion of an Ion Energy cell, it allows the electromagnetic field to carry a charge. One that when fired and hitting a target, can drain shields faster, as well as damage electrical systems that are weak to ion, and emp based weaponry.
- Hardy: Created using Duraplast, as well as Chromuranium, The weapon is quite resistant to most forms of energy and kinetic weaponry. As a clash between a sword, and a blaster weapon, It would need to be so. Kinetic resistant to prevent damaging of any of the systems of the blaster, and duraplast blade to have quite fair resistances to energy weaponry up to and including Lightsabers.
- Aim? How About Close Enough: As a combination of a sword, and a blaster, the weapon's frame is quite different from what anyone else might use or feasibly wield. While it's possible to use the weapon much like a rifle, or a carbine, One hand on the grip and another on the forward stock. However, as a blade has been placed upon the weapon which prohibits that, Aiming the weapon needs to be done while wearing armor upon the hands so that one could grab the blade, and not cut themselves, or be done with a single hand. While stronger beings in the universe may be able to more readily use it, It would still prove difficult to be an ace shot with this weapon.
- Reach: As the blade itself is rather short comparable to other weapons such as a Lightsaber(blade length of 110 cm-145 cm on average), the use of the blade is more so as a secondary tactic to defend one's self, or can be used to slip past the guard of a weapon to truly be effective.
- Not a Guards weapon: While this weapon is fairly useful in the right hands, The weapon is not the best at used for a defensive tool. With no guard over the hand, no prevention of melee weapons from hitting the hands, the power cell in front of the trigger guard, or the trigger itself, The best one could do is learning how to parry with this weapon.
- Limited In use: While this weapon can be quite deadly in the right hands, Your average soldier, and even others may not be able to use it to it's fullest capacity. It is more of a "rite of passage" weapon. One that a rare few can properly use without injuring themselves, or others.
- That's a Sock: A blade needs to have it's edge held in a sheath to keep it from cutting others, or if hanging from a belt/holster, needs to have some kind of cut resistant holding. Holsters that were built to hold this weapon are generally made with spacers leather, or thinner leathers, and a metal backing to prevent the blade from cutting through the material. In some cases, as the holsters can cost quite a bit to fabricate, a simple sleeve is put over the edge of a blade, much like how a sleeve would be put over the edge of Ice skates.
- Slowest Quickdraw in the West: As what is considered an SBR, or a Pistol form of a rifle, the weapon when stored in a holster, is not really the best at the fastest draw. The weight, size, and the girth of the weapon in general compared to that of a normal sword, or even a blaster, would be painfully lacking. Yes, one could feasibly draw this with some speed, but not nearly as fast as any other kind of pistol, or sword.
Shaun is a man who seeks knowledge with all kinds of weaponry. Even as he is still learning, and gaining this knowledge, It was recently, a much older man entered the shop with a unique weapon design. One that was much older than many of the Factions that have sprung up over the years. The man introduced himself as a Kilian Ranger. A once force organization upon the planet of Kilia IV. As the older man did not have the correct tools, or even remotely close to the ability to repair his weapon. Shaun set to work with the man to help him do so. Learning in the process of how the Siang Lance was fabricated. While much of it was based upon a sporting rifle with a rather long bayonet, Shaun had asked the man question after question of the weapon design, use, and significance.
Shaun took the liberty of of using the design, and worked on his own prototypes. While mostly at first, it was just blasters with a blade attachment fixed to the weapon, it came with a couple problems. Blasters were not generally used for close combat. The thinner barrels of a sporting blaster would bend and break under too much stress, as well as the heat from firing the weapon multiple times, then using the afixed blade. Fixing the first problem, Was the use of the Dallorian Alloy. Resistant to heat in very high degrees, it was used in blasters and weapons to prevent the melting of barrels due to heavier payloads of bolts, or for faster firing weapons.
Secondly, was the kinetic impacts of the weapon itself. Using the newly garnered alloy of his, Shaun constructed a very simple housing of the barrel that allowed the barrel and the blade to be afixed to one another, without having the barrel bend due to stress, or the physical impact of hitting another weapon. However, the blade itself was created out of Duraplast so that it can have some resilient properties that are much more suitable for ranged combat, and very short combat with a lightsaber.
