WALKER DECKS
  • Ablution Facility: Within the Walker is an ablution room provided so that the crew can hygienically dispose of waste product produced by organics. Disposed waste is destroyed in a recycling unit that can produce pure drinking water from urine which the Walker can use to atleast partially replace its' water stores.
  • Bridge: Located within the feral-looking head is the Command Deck or "Bridge" of the Audax-Class Walker. The Bridge is accessed primarily through a rotating periscopic three-position spring-actuated Cupola located on the dorsal surface of the "Head" directly above where the Commander's Throne is located. The Bridge contains three Command Thrones, one for the Commander/Pilot, Weapons Officer and Tactical Officer with the latter two seated beside each other in a lowered area of the bridge corresponding to the Head's "Chin" with manual input controls including touch-screen monitors, keyboards, and HOTAS stick plus pedals in the Weapon Officer's case to fire and manipulate the traverse and elevation of the Walker's armament excluding the chin-mounted repeating blasters.
  • Galley: Between the Bridge and Reactor room is a small Galley equipped with a dual-washing basin, electric stove, kettle, microwave-convection oven and two fridges for perishable goods and storage for disposable crockery and cutlery. This is where the four crew members can cook and prepare meals within the safety of their walker, which helps keep their morale high and at peak fighting efficiency. It's not uncommon for friendly dismounted Infantry sections or squads in a calm setting to politely request Audax crews to prepare food for them. The Crew themselves often use the water taps to fill buckets with warm soapy water for bathing in a field environment. It's also not uncommon for the Crew to use their refrigeration units to store alcohol for consumption.
  • Reactor Room: Within the thick armoured chassis directly behind the bridge is a large reactor room housing the Walker's two Nuclear Fusion Reactor that generates an incredible amount of power. The Reactor room is monitored nominally by a single Engineer who keeps the Reactors in good condition while attempting to optimise power supply to the Audax's systems. For the Commander they usually perceive the walker's reactor as their heart with the Pilot's heart rate generally increasing the greater load is placed upon the Reactor.
Strengths:
  • All-Terrain Capable: The Audax is capable of operating in just about all terrestrial environments with varying effectiveness, it is additionally capable of operating within the vacuum of space thanks to its' closed-circuit life support system. The notable exceptions to its' All-Terrain capability is certain icy tundras and marshes which like many walkers it is threatened by due to the high ground pressure exerted by its' bipedal design. Additionally, when the Audax is equipped with its' power harpoon it becomes capable of scaling sheer surfaces such as cliffs, although this is considered risky given the Walker's mass and is generally only performed as a matter of operational necessity.
  • Armament Gyro-stabilisation & Elevation: All Armament on the Audax-Class Walker is mounted on gyrostabilised platforms permitting accurate fire when on the maneuver which is greatly helpful when the vehicle is performing a hit-and-run attack which it is particularly effective at performing. Generally speaking the impact of movement on accuracy is negligible and thus this encourages the Commander to continue moving.
  • Crush Time: Weighing in at an impressive 2,000 metric tons the Audax's mass itself becomes a weapon in the terrestrial environment when combined with its' height. Characteristic of Walkers the Audax shares the ability to crush shorter vehicles, noticeably tracked and wheeled vehicles although given its' weight the Audax is also capable of physically bullying similarly tall flimsier Walkers asunder such as the AT-ST which the Audax could crush underfoot.
  • Fail-Safe Detonation Capable: Each Audax Walker is capable of turning its' Nuclear Fusion Reactor into a miniature themonuclear explosive that can swallow all objects within a one-hundred meter radius around the vehicle in a one-hundred million degree Celsius fireball. The Fail-Safe's triggering can only be authorised by the Audax's Commander and they are instructed only to do this if the Walker is in immediate Danger of being seized by a hostile force as a disabled or knocked-out Audax that isn't in-danger of being captured can be repaired. In the event the Commander is incapacitated but members of the Command Crew yet live but the Neural Droid Brain is intact it can begin a five-minute countdown to detonate the Walker's drive systems. In the event the Audax's entire organic crew are incapacitated or deceased the Droid Brain is authorised to immediately detonate the fail-safe where it deems capture is an immediate threat.
  • Individual Field Disruptor: Audax walkers are expected if necessary to penetrate planetary shields as part of their orbital drops as the situation demands or pierce through ground-side Deflector Shields used to protect sensitive installations. This was a requirement of the Audax's design capability as the use of Deflector Shielding technology to protect fortifications and planets from assault has become all too frequent on the contemporary battlefield. Unfortunately, when the Field Disruptor is active the Audax's own Deflector Shield is rendered disrupted and does not protect the Walker itself from damage for the duration the IFD is actively broadcasting.
  • Jamming Beam: Each of the Audax's main weapon apertures are equipped with a jamming beam projector which the Walker uses as a tool to increase its' effectiveness in combat particularly against hard-hitting vehicles such as tanks or walkers. The Jamming Laser Beam saturates a target with disruptive sensor data with the potential to deeply impact targeting solutions produced by the target's computer making retaliatory fire against the Audax anything from hard to nigh impossible due to the resultant impact on accuracy. The effects are best observed in guided munitions such as Anti-Tank missiles which can be thrown wildly off-course, conversely the least effected weapons are those munitions that are unguided which makes for an ironic situations where relatively simple weapons without sophisticated targeting can be more effective against the Audax.
  • Orbital Deployment: Duravlex, Thermal-Gel and Reverse Ion Thrusters are carefully implemented into the Audax's design permitting it to be safely dropped and deployed from orbit into the operational environment with little warning preceding its' arrival. When the Audax's clawed feet strike the ground it sends out a shockwave in a few hundred meter radius around the site of impact with nearby windows generally shattering and structures of tenuous design or engineering having the potential to collapse. In addition, sometimes Infantry are thrown right off their feet in the wake of an Audax's arrival from above the clouds.
  • Reflec Polymer Coating: Beneath its' Duravlex layer and paint overcoat the Audax is wrapped in a Reflect Polymer which helps spoof the effects of sensor probing and works to try and conceal important sensor contact information about the Walker such as its' electromagnetic spectrum emissions and the lifeform signatures emitted by its' crew, this aids in camouflage and concealment permitting the Audax to utilise snap and static ambush tactics. For this reason, some refer to the Audax as an "Undead" Walker as it can ostensibly appear to be unmanned on some scanners.
  • Repulsorlift Jammer: Repulsorlift Vehicles generally speaking exhibit much higher speeds than Walkers due to their difference in propulsion system and its' corresponding nature, a Hunter is nothing if it cannot close in on its' prey and secure the kill. To remedy this issue and to prevent being encircled by Repulsors or their escape the Audax is equipped with a Repulsorlift Jammer that can interrupt and even outright disable the propulsion systems of these vehicles potentially leaving them unable to traverse or maneuver leaving them at the Mercy of the Audax.
  • Variable Game Hunter: A plethora of different modular weapon apertures are available to the Audax so that it can hunt whatever prey might be necessary on the battlefield, from Rotary Blaster Cannons designed to mow down hordes of Infantry to the Plasma Disruptor and Light Turbolasers which are capable of demolishing walkers, tracked and wheeled vehicles approximately twice the physical size of the Audax. Its' Flamethrower Mounts spit white phosphorous in a liquid solution which burns at nearly three-thousand degrees celsius and is a short-ranged albeit highly effective weapon which can immolate or melt Infantry and Armour alike. The Weapon Apertures can be removed and replaced under field conditions in a workshop environment and therein lies the Audax's true beauty, its' ability to potentially hunt virtually any terrestrial prey on the battlefield with appropriate armament.
Weaknesses:
  • Awakening Start-Up: A stubborn and frustratingly complex piece of powerplant technology the Nuclear Fusion Plasmic Reactor is not supposed to be shut-down as re-awakening it is troublesome and often requires several minutes of time and effort on the part of the Audax's onboard talented Engineer on trying to get the electric dynamo starters to squeeze enough juice into the Reactor to re-start the Fusion Reactor. The grinding deafening machine whine of their Reactor trying to start is distinct, a sound from primordial nightmare ripped right from worlds where their inhabitants fear giant reptilian predators and their ground-shaking roars. When the relentless grind of metal-on-metal ends with reactor start the Audax awakens in a full-throated hot thunderclap akin to the sonic boom created by the breaching of local sound barrier.
  • Bridge: Located prominently on the Audax's front is its' "Head" containing the Command deck where the Commander and their two optional assistant pilots are located, given it's not inconspicuous size it makes for a fantastic and rather easy target at typical combat ranges. When the Audax's shields are drained or otherwise offline a shot to the bridge with an anti-tank weapon capapble of penetrating its' armour could cripple, destroy or disable the Walker in a single well-placed shot with potential to maim or kill members of its' Command Crew including the precious Death Trooper Pilot.
  • Close-Air Support: Countering close air support is an issue, the Audax despite having impressive main armament elevation and depression does not actually possess weaponry capable of effectively engaging fast-moving aircraft such as Fighters. It isn't entirely without protection, the aperture Rotary Blaster Cannons make for effective at deterring or stopping airstrikes through their sheer rate of fire provided it can sufficiently elevate the weapon to hit its' targets but not every single Audax will sport one of these weapons. It's entirely possible that an Audax will not sport this weapon on either aperture and render itself virtually wholly ineffective at deterring or destroying fast-moving aircraft.
  • Capacitor Recharge: The Audax's two most impressive weapons, its' light turbolaser and plasma disruptor cannon draw massive amounts of power from its' reactor and therefore are fitted with Capacitor Battery Banks so they can be pre-charged before firing. However, the Capacitor Banks have sufficient power volume for less than a handful of shots, usually no more than two. Once the Capacitors are depleted of contents it takes even the Reactor approximately 7-10 Seconds to loudly recharge them, this charging act additionally acts as a telegraph that the crew is preparing to probably discharge one of these devastating weapons.
  • Commander Seizures & Cerebrovascular Trauma: Following a design philosophy noted among the Walkers and equipment designed for use by the Death Troopers of Project: AFTERLIFE and Project: REVENANT, the Audax-Class Walker directly connects the onboard Neural Chipset Moderati Droid Brain and the Commander's Organic brain. The two work in a harmonious concert of man and machine without violating the purity of either, that said it poses some significant problems even for the considerably augmented Death Troopers. There is a risk that the communication between the Walkers many systems and their brain that the Commander's nervous system might experience what are commonly referred to as a "Seizure" where they temporarily lose awareness of their surroundings and by the extension the battlefield, taking weapon systems offline. Worse still, it is not common it is also not impossible for the Commander to receive Cerebrovascular Trauma such as in situations where they are suddenly disconnected from their Neural Interface Device and the Walker's machine consciousness by extension.
  • Ground Pressure: Audax Walkers are staggeringly heavy war machines with a weight that rivals or surpasses considerably taller engines thanks in part due to its' armour and armament. In practical terms the Audax encounters a few issues and hazards in the operational environment, namely that it can only cross the thickest ice. To safely traverse a frozen lake or ice field for example the Audax would require the Ice to be approximately 46 Meters (50 Yd.) thick to minimise risk of unwanted collapse.
  • Gyrostabiliser Stress: Many of the Audax's weapons generate significant amounts of recoil upon firing such as the Rotary Blaster Cannon aperture mount weapons, after a relatively short time of continuous discharge the weapon becomes horribly inaccurate yet seeks to compensate for this somewhat with sheer volume of fire. In the case of the larger weapons, the Light Turbolaser and Disruptor Cannon the Gyrostabilisers are usually taken offline after two to three shots in quick succession to prevent damage and can take upto a full minute to come back online. Both weapons would struggle to hit a target a mere one kilometer away without their Gyrostabilisers online and given the heat generated upon discharge and threat of Reactor shutdown only the panicked or most reckless crews would attempt such a shot.
  • Main Armament Apertures: Unlike much of the Superstructure the weapon apertures themselves typically lack armour in an attempt to use the ambient environment's wind and climate to aid in the cooling of weapon barrels in the hope it will aid with continuous firing. However, this exposes the Audax's expensive and powerful weaponry to the potential to be readily crippled, damaged or disabled without its' Deflector Shield suite online. Damaged Weapons could do anything from misfire or fail to fire completely or catastrophically detonate depending on the damage or malfunction inflicted, understandably this makes the arm Apertures an enticing target for an enemy without armaments sufficient to penetrate the main hull or superstructure armour.
  • Mind Tricks: Hard-wired into the Audax's systems, the Commander is a prime target for subtle or overt mind manipulation with the force. It's entirely possible for light-sided force wielders to lull the Commander's mind into a state of pleasant unconsciousness and therefore render the Audax itself harmless in a state of mechanical unconsciousness. Wielders of the analogous dark-side technique could attempt to dominate the Commander's mind and turn the proud mighty war-machine and its' Commander to their service atleast temporarily having the opportunity to control the Walker through its' Death Trooper operator.
  • Penetrable Armour: The Armour covering the Audax's Hull and Superstructure while ostensibly thick in certain places on paper could be penetrated by the likes of Medium to Heavy Laser Cannons, large calibre high-velocity Kinetic Penetrator and Chemical Energy Munitions. For mainline protection against these sorts of projectiles the Audax relies on its' considerably stronger Particle and Ray Shielding for protection from weapons which might otherwise damage or completely penetrate its' Composite Armour.
  • Psychosomatic Disease: Due to the close intimacy of the Commander/Pilot and the Audax created by the Neural Interface Device it is possible for the former to suffer Psychosomatic injuries as a result of battle damage to the Walker. For Example, the Pilot might receive and experience painful blistering rashes across their body corresponding to locations which have received extensive plasma damage, while severe damage to the Walker's joints can result in acute and sometimes severe nerve pain which can result in the Pilot themselves becoming temporarily paralyzed. Bruising is also common in Commanders whose Walkers have sustained minor functional damage.
  • Sustained Cooling Venting Procedure: Equipped with a powerful Nuclear Fusion Plasma Reactor the Audax's reactor core generates a significant amount of power for its' main armament however given its' compact design this leads the Audax to encounter significant heat distribution issues that haven't been fully resolved. Instead, the Audax must periodically disengage from protracted combat and permit its' Reactor's heatsinks to vent in a sustained procedure where excess white-hot plasma is released from the Walker. If the Reactor Core is running critical and its' Commander doesn't disengage their Audax's reactor engages its' automatic shutdown to prevent the Walker's destruction in a one-hundred million degree celsius fireball.
Description:

Audax-Class Walkers are the smallest class of Walkers constructed for use by the Death Troopers of Project: AFTERLIFE and Project: REVENANT, designed to be employed as a scout or flanking element of an assault. It is generally speaking the most commonly seen of these "Death Trooper Walkers" Due to its' relatively modest cost and size which present less of a construction challenge for Engineers and Manufacturers attempting to build the technologically staggering "God-Engines" piloted by Superhuman Warriors. The Audax differ significantly from their peers in that they are constructed with a distinctly canine-like chassis, ungulate or "backwards jointed" legs and a wolfish visage with weapon-mounts positioned in the chassis "Shoulders" as opposed to the Humanoid Appearance sported by other such Engines used by the Death Troopers. Compared to the heavier and significantly taller Engines the Audax is lightly armed and armoured although it still represents a fearsome and dreadful foe to fight for more standard and mainline designs fielded by the myriad intelligent species across the galaxy.

In Major Engagements the Audax's awe-inspiring powerwolf weaponry can cause immense damage to Infantry and Main Battle Tanks alike, thanks to a diminuitive size and ungulate locomotion these Walkers are also capable of springing snap and static prepared ambushes with consummate effectiveness, it is capable of going from minimal fusion output, with locomotion and systems shutdown to full-sprint in approximately twenty seconds crashing through walls more than three meters thick and three times the vehicle's height. Whereas their larger brethren are usually visible from Kilometers away an Audax Walker in low-power mode with its' Reflec Polymer electromagnetic spectrum-spoofing coating can lay in wait until it's right on top of some unsuspecting Prey before executing its' Trap, disabling and annihilating hostile armour in close quarters with startling efficiency and ease. Other Walkers might appear to be taller than the Audax such as in the case with an AT-AT or AT-M6 however the Audax tonne for tonne is comparable if not heavier tonne for tonne than these loftier designs and fully capable of demolishing them with its' heavy anti-vehicle weapons.

With an emphasis on speed and particularly agility despite its' impressive gross vehicle mass the Audax are considered lightly armoured and armed when compared to the other models of Walkers constructed for the Death Troopers of Project: Revenant and Project: Afterlife. They're protected by a relatively modest nineteen inches of armour at the thickest areas and a Deflector Shield Generator featuring Ray and Particle Shields which interdicts any projectiles accelerating towards the walker at a velocity greater or equal to thirty meters per second. Even despite this well-trained and equipped disciplined Infantry armed with Anti-Tank Weapons and Tanks themselves can pose a serious threat to an Audax Walker especially if its' Deflector Shield Generator has been drained waiting to recharge. However, they are still incredibly dangerous vehicles to encounter with more firepower than a whole company of heavily armed Infantry. The Audax's Deflector Shields are capable of permitting the Walker to survive hits which would destroy other Walkers and Tanks in a single shot and even sustained bombardment from self-propelled artillery pieces, although they will eventually topple to heavy artillery due to damage to the legs.

The Audax-Class' Armour and Protective suite is designed to give it protection against its' own weaponry and thus the Walker is capable of surviving a shot from a Turbolaser Cannon although more often than not the impact from such a weapon should knock the walker clean on its' side and heavily damage if not deplete entirely its' deflector shield generator with the possibility of the Shield Generator hardware itself to be destroyed or disabled. An Audax without its' shields online and charged is likely to be destroyed by a Turbolaser-class weapon, as a general rule firepower sufficient to level a city block is sufficient to cripple, destroy or disable the Walker. As seen in other Walker designs piloted and commander by the Death Troopers the vehicles features a Neural Interface Device permitting them to oversee and directly control all of its' functions alone if necessary, in addition the Neural Interface Device permits the Superhuman Commander to communicate with the Walker's own nervous system which is constructed from a Neural Droidbrain featuring the same architecture as that seen on the taller and heavier Princeps-Class Walker. The Neural Droid Brain is a machine intelligence that guides and assists the Command Crew during Operations with machine learning capability.

Learning and mimicking their pilot's characteristics and personality traits Audax-Class Walkers are often a mixture of Surely and Independent, they usually dislike being compelled to follow Commands but find confident and competitive Pilots to be amenable. Some Engineers who have constructed the Audax and its' Neural Chipset have likened their machine intelligence to be akin to a ferocious hound upon leaving the factory with any mellowing or increase in obedience only becoming evident after being neurally bonded with a Commander. The Audax's behavioral archetype is part of what makes these war engines so terrifying and murderously effective walking in an organic mechanical feral stride all too common among terrestrial Apex Predators. Despite being equipped with a series of Transparisteel windows that feature a wealth of heads-up-display information the Pilot comprehends most of their surrounding through the wireless Neural Interface Device built into their command throne. The Psychosomatic link created between an Audax and its' Commander results in the latter being able to access all of the Walker's sensory data as if being able to hear or smell contacts and identify them in concert with the machine intelligence. For simplification this is usually narrowed down to and displayed within the Pilot's "vision" as Heat Signatures, motion tracking, mass of contacts and code activity as the Neural Chipset processes information and sensory inputs. Oddly enough the Psychosomatic link between an Audax and its' Pilot allows them to instinctively and fluently understand binary, the language of Droids.

The sensory code received by the impressive array equipped to Audax-Class Walkers can be shared with friendly forces via tight-beam binary transmission. Its' Sensors are so potent and powerful the Pilot can detect and identify the Repulsor Powerplant of an IFT Fighter tank at a range of Five Kilometers from the Audax's current position. Audax Pilots, Weapon Officer joined by the Tactical Officer sit in the bridge which corresponds to the Vehicle's "Head". The Weapon Officer is usually delegated the task of physically laying the weapons onto the Commander's target and firing in their stead permitting the Pilot to focus on acquiring further targets in a Hunter-Killer fashion while the Tactical Officer accesses all of the Audax's complex sensors and alerts their Pilot to contacts, terrain and any other such pertinent information. The Tactical and Weapon Officers sit in adjacent tandem within the Walker's "Chin" with liquid crystal touch-screen monitors, keyboards and manual input devices to perform their duties. Lastly, an Engineer is usually stationed onboard to monitor reactor function in health with the reactor room being positioned in a compartment down a narrow hallway directly behind the Bridge within the heavily armoured chassis.

As an All-Terrain All-Environment vehicle the Audax-Class Walker possesses its' own hermetic atmosphere that is sustained by an onboard close-circuit life support system which allows it to survive in Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear contaminated environment indefinitely provided the Walker remains sealed, the same goes for its' ability to operate in Vacuum. Redundant bulkheads are used within the Walker's chassis to prevent decompression of the Bridge and Reactor Room. For Crew Comfort there is a small galley located onboard between the bridge and reactor room within the Walker's Chassis Proper which can be used to prepare food. In addition to this there is an ablution facility for the disposal of organic waste, with an onboard recycling system converting urine into reusable pure water. The Audax's internal tanks can store hundreds of liters of water for drinking and emergency reactor cooling and can store several hundred liters of refrigerated stores aboard for crew consumption. Access to the Walker is made via Gantry when it is upright, although Audax-Class Engines can also lean down when on their "Knees" and permit ground access to the rotating periscopic three-position Commander's Cupola located on the vehicle's "Head". An interesting creature comfort is that all four crew's genuine leather-wrapped thrones are capable of reclining back thirty degrees and feature heating along with cup-holders for canteens and liquid beverages.

Armament mounted to the Audax's chassis is quite impressive with its' premier weapons including a Twin-Linked Plasma Disruptor and Light Turbolaser, the latter weapon was engineered originally as a Heavy Laser Cannon before being fitted with additional capacitor banks, Galven Coils and a Tibanna Gas Beam Emitter to triple the destructive power after experience gained in designing the Princeps-Class Walker which led to this Dual-Linked Laser Weapon to be classed as a "Turbolaser". Both the Plasma Disruptor and Turbolaser "Destructor" are capable of crippling, destroying or disabling virtually any terrestrial armoured vehicle in a single shot, including those protected by Deflector Shields. Even the Audax itself couldn't expect its' Deflector Shields to withstand any more than a single shot from these weapons. As a pronounced Drawback to its' armament power there is significant design issues arising from thermal build-up and Capacitor bank charging which can require upto ten seconds in some cases for a single capacitor bank for either weapon to fully charge. Because of the Audax's modularity it can be outfitted to be versatile and capable of engaging and effectively destroying armour and infantry alike or be optimized for one particular role. Generally speaking the arm-mounted weapons of the Audax have a traverse of one-hundred degrees and elevation/depression of plus thirty six to minus thirty-three degrees respectively.

In an Anti-Infantry Capacity the Audax is a dismounted rifleman's worst nightmare with its' Dual-Mount Rotary Blaster Cannons spitting out eighteen thousand shots per minute, a staggering volume of fire not even a force wielder could be reasonably expected to deflect. The power output of these weapons is so staggering they can cut through the Ferrocrete Walls of Fortifications robbing it's prey of the cover they often so desperately seek when suppressed, Lightly Armoured Vehicles such as Infantry Fighting Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers are not safe from this weapon either and it's not uncommon for such terrestrial vehicles to be rendered a holed pile of scrap metal. In situations where tracked or wheeled vehicles aren't penetrated the sheer force of those forearm-sized blaster bolts is often sufficient to turn them onto their sides with their treads squealing in the air, exposing what is often the thinner penetrable bottom hull armour. The Armour of the Audax's Hull itself was intentionally rendered resistant to this punishment so that the Walker could clean off mantling Infantry from its' brothers.

Armour makes for just as easy prey as Infantry with the Audax capable of mounting either a Twin-Linked Turbolaser or Plasma Disruptor, both are capable of demolishing most terrestrial armoured vehicles with a single shot. Targets that aren't outright destroyed are more often than not crippled or disabled. There are some major drawbacks with these weapons, firstly they generate a disproportionate thermal energy when compared to the Walker's chassis which leads to overheating issues and seconds the amount of Power they draw necessitates that their capacitor banks charge before firing which in the case of empty capacitor banks can take anywhere between seven to ten seconds with full Capacitor banks not permitting more than a couple shots to fire before being forced to recharge. Thus, while the Audax is excellent at ambushing and even destroying armour alone one Walker cannot hope to take on large armour formations alone which contrasts itself with the Larger Walker designs manned by Death Troopers. The Audax's own armoured chassis and hull is typically insufficient protection against sustained anti-tank weaponry and so an Audax without its' Deflector Shields is highly vulnerable to damage when engaging in anti-Armour activities.
