Jonyna had to hold back a snort. The kid really was sheltered.

"You focus the end into a tip, then crack it. The smaller your tip, the more focused the end. You want to focus all the momentum into a tiny point, then hit it at your target."

She demonstrated by cracking her own against a rock on the far side of the river. The snap of the whip smashed against the rock, splitting it in half.

Starlin gasped as the rock cracked in half, he knew that water could eventually weather and erode rocks into nothingness but split one? He blinked, leaning forward where he sat, then shifted from his bottom to his knees; they sank into the silty soil, leaving them damp but cushioned.
"So I..." He visualized it, flinging the water forward to a precise point, then raised the water into the air once more. It was one long tendril which he swirled to build up that initial momentum, he was too inexperienced to simply do it without a warm up, then...
CRACK.
It wasn't a big rock that broke, wasn't even a rock at all, just a fallen branch from one of the trees overhead, but just as Jonyna had managed to split stone he successfully split the wood.
"Did I do that?" he asked, looking from wood to Jonyna, "o-or did you?"

"All you buddy." Jonyna smiled. "One day, if you keep at it, you'll find plenty of ways to use water. I could forward you to a buddy of mine. He's much better it it than I am, admittedly. Could get you a proper teacher. A mentor."

She hadn't spoken with Anthony Gray Sun Anthony Gray Sun in a while, he was just as much of a wanderer as she was, but they kept in touch. One of the few NJO members she kept in direct contact with these days.

Starlin whooped once he knew it was his doing. "Heck yeah" he grinned, before hastily composing himself. He could hear Uncle Darien now, telling him to mind his words and use his inside voice. Though, admittedly, they were not inside at all. "Sorry" he said all the same, cheeks turning a soft pink.
"Forward me, Miss?" he asked, unsure what exactly that meant. "Erm, sure, I wouldn't mind learning some more once I have all my ducks in a line again." Once he'd found home, and his Uncles, and everything was back to normal.
