OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Intent: Create a new line of All-Terrain Bipedal Walkers that can be used in a commercial and military application based on an old obscure canon concept that has been ostensibly abandoned in Canon to the favour of the "Modern" Walker design of having armaments mounted in apertures, fixed-mounts or casemates as opposed to the "Mechanized Battle Suit" which I've interpreted as having a more humanoid structure.

[*]Targeting Computer

Strengths:
  • Artificial Intelligence: Each Spartan-Class Walker is equipped with an advanced Artificial Intelligence which provides tactical support and advice to its' neurally-linked Pilot. The Artificial Intelligence significantly increase the efficiency of the platform, allowing the A.I and its' Pilot to act as a "Hunter-Killer" Team with the synthetic intelligence scanning for and identifying targets with the independent thermal viewers and at the pilot's verbal or neural consent slewing its' gun and body onto each target sequentially as they are engaged and destroyed. The Artificial Intelligence can additionally control all of the Walker's weapon systems when its' pilot is disembarked, in this situation it acts as an autonomous combat platform supporting and protecting their pilot.
  • Complex Armour Construction: Each Atlas-Class Walker and both of its' manufactured variants are equipped with cutting-edge armour and a variety of hard countermeasures that make it very effective at defeating ballistic munitions such as Anti-Tank rockets including but not limited to: armour-piercing fin-stabilised discarding sabot, high-explosive anti-tank, high-explosive squash-head and tandem-warhead charges to name just a few. In addition to its' formidable armour the Atlas is equipped with an "Anti Missile Octet" which amounts to a hard-kill device that uses the Walker's sensors to identify incoming ballistic projectiles like missiles or torpedos and fire out a wave of shrapnel towards the projectile in an attempt to destroy it, however. This is only effective against High Explosive charges and often does nothing to those lacking such a charge such as Sabot Rounds. The Armour can additionally provide excellent protection against Directed Energy Weapons up to and including Medium Laser Cannons.
  • Deflector Shield Generator: Every single Spartan Walker features a powerful Deflector Shield Generator which protects the Atlas from both directed energy and ballistic projectiles. To prevent it from being unnecessarily drained the Deflector Shield will only react to and absorb or destroy projectiles accelerating towards the chassis at a velocity equal or greater to thirty meters per second or approximately one-hundred and eight kilometers per hour. Low-velocity projectiles can thus bypass it entirely and weapons such as thrown grenades or explosives can be particularly effective against the Walkers in close-quarters fighting as a result.
  • Individual Field Disruptor: Equipped with an Individual Field Disruptors the Atlas can successfully traverse and penetrate Deflector Shields that are employed as part of fortifications to inhibit the deployment or movement of personnel or vehicles. It additionally permits Atlas-Class Walkers to penetrate Planetary-Scale Shields that are employed on some worlds to prevent hostile invasion forces from making planetfall. Although, as a result of employing their onboard Individual Field Disruptor the Atlas' own Deflector Shield is taken temporarily offline until it can cycle as if it has been depleted and begin recharging.
  • Humanoid Agility: Due to the Atlas' Humanoid design it is exceptionally agile and compact, as an example the Atlas-Class Walker can scale sheer cliffs with little difficulty and manoeuvre easily around hostile Walkers and Tanks in close-quarters with observers comparing its' movements to a giant metal person such is its' dexterity and this is achieved in no small part to its' neural interface device which permits the Pilot to manipulate the Humanoid Walker as if it was their own body.
  • Murderously Effective: Atlas-Class Spartans Walkers and its' two manufactured variants are terrifyingly effective at engaging, crippling, neutralizing or otherwise destroying Infantry and Lightly Armoured vehicles. The Atlas and its' variants armament can mow through hordes of dismounted Infantry and is capable of effectively engaging and destroying armoured fighting vehicles and similarly sized walkers such as the All-Terrain Scout-Transport which it significantly outweighs, and can even dramatically post a threat to the larger types. One of the unique qualities about the Mechanized Battlesuit inspired design is the fact it has opposable thumbs which it can use to manipulate objects and use them as weapons. Infantry tends to prefer surrendering than being picked up and crushed in a metal Golem's closed fist. As a general Rule, the Atlas is a valid threat to a common walker such as an AT-AT that stands approximately twice it height for the sheer destructive potential of the Atlas' armaments.
  • Opposable Thumbs: Given the influence of the ancient Mechanized Battle Suit in its' construction the Atlas has a far more humanoid structure when compared to modern Walkers which provides it with increased versatility at the cost of being limited in size for the sake of combat efficiency. Having two mechanical limbs imitating arms and hands permits the Atlas to be used in a huge variety of roles such as Civil Construction and Engineering, in a military context this permits Atlas Walkers to provide valuable combat service support such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal and the Erection of fortifications by Combat Engineers while protected inside its' hull. In Close-Quarters Fighting such as those found in city Streets the Atlas is a monster of Warfare and can use its' humanoid limbs to neutralize hostile infantry and armour, turning armoured personnel carriers onto their sides, bending the cannons of turreted tanks and crushing riflemen in it's hands.
Weaknesses:
  • Anti-Tank Mines: A noticeable weakness of Bipedal designs is their reliance on just two limbs for locomotion and balance which stands in stark contrast to wheeled or tracked vehicles which spread this responsibility out to several surfaces. If just one foot on an Atlas is blown off by a powerful anti-tank mine they are usually crippled much like a person and unable to manoeuvre or displace effectively. When an Atlas is so crippled field repair is almost impossible due to the load-bearing issues presented and can only generally be adequately repaired and returned to full service in a workshop environment.
  • Data Core Vulnerability: Each Spartan Walker possesses an Artificial Intelligence Data Core which sits in what would be described as its "head" though most observers might not realise it the Atlas' primary "Eye" is in truth its' datacore sitting in its' housing. The vulnerability of this data core is what necessitated the implementation of Deflector Shields as without them this Artificial Intelligence core is highly vulnerable to fire from anti-tank grade firepower especially from directed energy weapons. If an Atlas Class Walker's artificial intelligence core is destroyed the entire platform will become inoperable for the Pilot as without a neural link to the artificial intelligence there's no way for the artificial intelligence to interpret and apply the pilot's inputs to the chassis itself.
  • Disruptors: Disruptor-based blasters have the potential to inflict serious damage onto the Atlas-Class Spartan Walker with it being possible for these weapons to cause a catastrophic reactor failure which can result in the platform losing power temporarily or permanently and in other more dramatic cases to detonate in a miniature nuclear fireball without warning. This makes it possible for the Infantry and Material the Atlas would usually hunt entirely possible of making it the hunted, balancing this somewhat in the Atlas' favour is the restricted deployment of disruptor technology as many civilized systems consider their manufacture and use inhumane and unlawful.
  • Ejector Seat Dimensions: The Pilot's seat and the interior ergonomics are constructed for exclusive use by Humans and Near-Human species with Physiognomy that closely matches that of a Human, this was done due to the limited space within the cockpit and ergonomics of the manual controls. Unfortunately, due to the cramped space within the cockpit any Pilot taller than 190cm tall (6'2") or with disproportionately long femurs or ulna are at high risk of receiving traumatic amputation at the knees and/or wrists when using the Ejector seat as the Cupola despite being very large and generous for most tanks has incredibly tight clearances for the Ejector to the point where an incorrectly mounted seat can result in severe injuries or death. The same goes for the likes of Twi'Leks or Torguta who are at risk of having their head-tails getting trapped in or striking the Cupola or Hull as they clear the Walker and receiving fatal injury.
  • Ion Cannons: The highly ionized plasma shots fired from Ion Cannons mounted on the likes of vehicles or fixed defensive emplacements hitting an unshielded Spartan Walker can cause electrical disturbances to the Atlas' systems such as scrambling the hull-mounted cameras and thermal viewers reducing the Atlas' ability to acquire, track and effectively engage contacts or targets. At the more dramatic end of the spectrum, the Atlas-Class Walker's power supply unit for the main power drive and auxiliary power unit can be temporarily taken offline trapping its' pilot inside the armoured hull helpless while the Walker's power supply unit and Artificial Intelligence core reboot after abruptly being shutdown. A single shot from a sufficiently powerful Ion Cannon can completely drain the Walker's Deflector Shield Charge leaving the hull vulnerable to disruptive follow-up shots or attack with other weapons.
  • Life Preservation Programming: Being equipped with an Artificial Intelligence with hard-programmed life preservation protocols can make for some interesting flaws, as an example the Spartan is equipped with a self-destruct feature to be used in a situation where it is in-danger of immediate capture by a hostile force and thus due to Protocol 3 would be unable to initiate said self-destruction feature while their pilot is within the Chassis. Conversely a Spartan Walker could be cowed into submission when acting in an autonomous mode if their pilot was to be captured and threatened with impending death or grievous injury if the Spartan did not comply with the demands levied against them.
  • Lightsabre: Lightsabres are a particularly dangerous hazard for the Atlas-Class Walker as the powerful magnetic field that contains the projected plasma disrupts the Deflector Field that would normally protect the hull. Thus, a Jedi, Sith or another Skilled Force user could quite feasibly attack and disable or cripple a Spartan Walker in close-quarters using their lightsabre without having to pay mind to whether or not the Deflector Shield of the vehicle still possesses charge or is otherwise functioning normally. Lightsabre-wielding force users are one of the few types of opponents who could hope to engage the comparatively giant Atlas in melee combat and potentially win the engagement.
  • Limbs: Unlike modern walker designs that either have their weapons constructed into their chassis or mounted as turrets or apertures the Spartan line of Walkers possess two arms and two legs, in the case of the arms this is an issue as significant damage to the Walker's mechanical arms or hands can render it unable to effectively operate its' carried weapons. As the Walker itself is not resistant against the sheer heat generated by Lightsabres it's entirely possible for force sensitive warriors to slice the machine's legs in close quarters using their signature laser swords as a risky albeit effective method of disabling these vehicles.
  • Limited Traverse: Unlike the AT-ST the Spartan Walkers have a limited traverse given their humanoid construction and cannot independently traverse their upper or lower chassis three-hundred and sixty degrees in either direction. For the Atlas to drastically alter what direction it's facing both the upper and lower chassis must pivot much like a Humanoid Vertebrate such as a Human. Generally speaking, it can pivot its' torso to a perpendicular ninety degrees to each side but for traversals greater than this the whole body must shift. However, thanks to its' arms the Spartan is capable of elevating its' armament in excess of ninety degrees.
  • Penetrable Armour: Despite the fact that the Atlas is considered by many to be extremely well protected in a twist of irony it is actually highly vulnerable to the very same classes of weapons that it wields. Heavily armed and Armoured Fighting Vehicles can be destroyed by the Atlas with impunity but the Atlas itself can be destroyed by the likes of Particle Beams and Laser Cannons itself. For protection against these threats it relies upon a Deflector Shield but without this, the Mechanized Battlesuit can be readily damaged, crippled or destroyed by heavy directed energy weapons mounted on main battle tanks and large combat walkers.
  • Psychosomatic Injuries: Though the secret is carefully guarded Spartan Walkers are based on similar technology used in walkers designed for the enhanced physiology of those who graduated Project: AFTERLIFE and Project: REVENANT. They incorporate a Neural Interface Device which links the Pilot directly to their Spartan's droid brain allowing them to manipulate its' systems and movement through their thoughts alone. However, this means that injuries and damage to the Walker cause Psychosomatic Injuries to the linked Pilot while they are directly interfaced in the cockpit with these injuries usually manifesting as crippling nerve pain or blistering unpleasant rashes.
  • Reactor Vulnerability: Within the Atlas-Class Spartan Walker is quite a large Nuclear Fusion Reactor located in the Chassis' "Back" When the chassis sustains sufficient structural damage to its' superstructure the Reactor Housing can become exposed through holes in its' body which permits opponents to attempt to fire directly upon the vulnerable Nuclear Fusion Reactor. In the event the reactor core is breached, the walker will usually be consumed in a miniature thermonuclear explosion and is violent and powerful enough to potentially obliterate the upper Chassis along with its' pilot.
DESCRIPTION

The Atlas-Class Spartan All-Terrain Mechanized Battle Suit is a Bipedal Walker inspired by an archaic and ancient design that saw service long before the Old Republic, it is similar in appearance to many modern Walker designs although it it distinguished by its' more humanoid appearance and implementation of arms and hands which permits the platform to better interact with its' environment and fulfil a variety of different roles within Combat and Civil applications. As a Combat Concept the Mechanized Battle Suit fell out of favour according to some Intergalactic Historians due to its' limitation on the destructive output its' humanoid appearance placed as the Walker would have to continually increase exponentially in height and size in order to carry more powerful weapon systems in its' hands like those found on the All-Terrain MegaCalibre Six. The Atlas-Class Spartan All-Terrain platform was designed by the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation with Anarielle Giala Mero providing technical support and eventually being appointed as the Project's Director during Development and intended to be marketed to Military, Paramilitary, Law Enforcement and Civil Construction or Engineering Companies. The Atlas-Class Spartan is constructed as a modular platform and atleast two different variants of the Chassis are produced at the Factory with these two variants being named the "Ion-Class" and "Photon-Class" Respectively with the former model being geared towards close-quarters direct fire support using devastating directed energy weapons while the latter specialized at longer range direct fire support with its' 40mm High-Velocity Mass Driver Cannon.

I'd recommend thinking about turning these solely into droids as an alternative.

[member="Gir Quee"],

This idea is based on the "Mechanized Battle Suit" which is stated as being the forerunner to the modern walker concept and was abandoned sometime before the time of the New Republic. The Mechanized battle suits are similar in design to Walkers but distinct enough to be considered something different and combined with the description of the Mechanized battle suit being a "Personal" war machine and the Forerunner to modern walkers I think the selected design is appropriate along with it to be manned by a single pilot. I would also like to point out that a Walker-type vehicle introduced in recent Canon Material was outright titled a "Mech" and while not featuring a humanoid appearance does have a design that would fit comfortably in the Mech Assault series of video games with weapon apertures with what could only be staggering elevation/depression.

If the issue with the idea held by factory staff is that it's manned and they could accept it as a droid platform I think that the suitability of the design for the star wars universe question has already been conceded in the favour of the Atlas, the question then is whether or not such a Humanoid Mechanized Platform could be manned by a single pilot. I believe the source material is supportive of this idea, as a result, I will not be deviating from the concept that I have set out to explore.

Thank you for your time.

[member="Daan Sarnova"], I have that source of the "mechanized battle suit" myself. This is the entire entry of "mechanized battle suit" in Galaxy Guide 8: Scouts, page 30 in the "Lost Treasures" section:

Appropriate treasures include warehoues full of valuable weapons (perhaps even abandoned technologies, such as personal mechanized battle suits, which were the forerunners of walker vehicles), fleets of starships...
There is not enough in there to justify this mech suit concept. I think that more likely, what we're talking about is something more akin to a Battleframe.

I'm always open to hearing your take on things. I have changed my mind in the past on things, especially when there is a strong canon source that I was unaware of. In some instances, such as gameplay balancing, I really am only offering non-binding advice.

But this is not one of those cases.

When it comes to actual board rules, such as "must conform to the idea of Star Wars", following my guidance is not optional. Everyone will comply with the board rules or otherwise face discipline. In this instance, if you submit these subs as they are when I first commented on them, I will not only deny this submissions, but I will also give you a temporary Factory ban as well.

Just a FYI, I don't go out of my way to find subs to comment on. People bring them to me. The fact that I'm commenting on this is because another member of the community does not think that it fits within the idea of the Star Wars universe, and I agree with them.

It's unfortunate that you feel that way. Thank you for your time. You may archive this at your convenience.
