DESCRIPTION

It’s hard to have informants on the inside sometime. In the event that the Helix Syndicate couldn’t establish contact with a person willing to spy, they put their own informants on the inside. And more often than not, these informants are Astrid-Class Spy Droids. Tiny, discrete, and totally silent, the Astrid-Class Spy Droid promises to be the most reliable informer you can ask for. There are two types of units: the Anchor Unit (the large, dark one in the image) and the Recorder Unit (the small, orange one in the image).

The design of the Recorder Unit is simple, but its features are complex. The most important aspect of the tiny droid is its Micro Gabonna Memory Unit. This unit features a small shard of a Gabonna Crystal, allowing for the storing of vast amounts of information in comparatively small space. The programming of the droid is simple in of itself, so the vast majority of the unit is used for storing the audio and video it records.

In order to ensure maximum clarity of both visuals and audio, the Recorder Unit employs the smallest but most sensitive recording equipment available on the market. It is capable of recording high definition video and audio and can switch back and forth between thermal and night vision as necessary. Typically, the effective range is about fifty meters. To assist in keeping the subjects in range, the Recorder Unit features both repulsorlift-aided flight and six adorable insect legs to propel it on its arduous journeys.

Recorder Units also come with a computer probe, allowing them to interface with the majority of electronic devices. Their slicing capabilities are not terribly impressive when compared to specialized droids, but they can typically get the job done if given time. A sound dampener keeps them from creating any noise as they scamper or hover from place to place and an anti-sensor coat keeps them from registering on all but the most pervasive scans.

Then there are the Anchor Units.

The Anchor Units have no recording capacity, computer probe, repulsorlift, or alternative visual modes. That is because their job is to just stay put in one place. Like an anchor. They have the same sound dampener and anti-sensor coating of the Recorder Units and also a larger Micro Gabonna Memory Unit. While the Recorder Units are out and about, the Anchor Unit remains stationary. When the Recorder Unit documents something it deems noticeable, it encrypts and transmits the recording to the Anchor Unit via segregated comlink. The Anchor Unit then just sits there with the recording until its handler retrieves it and brings it back to base to unload everything it has received.

All units are under strict orders to self-destruct if they fall into the hands of an unregistered party. The self-destruct feature is not very flashy, but it will ruin the memory unit and prevent the uncovering of the droid’s origins. Obviously, the self destruct cannot take place if the droid is disabled beforehand.
