The Chron Collective

What are We?
(I apologize for no fancy graphics, I have no art skill)
The Chron Collective is a digital network of uploaded consciousnesses (calling themselves Chron) that reside in vast computer memory banks on Hope perceiving their existence through a virtual reality simulation (think The Matrix). 99% of all Chron live their existence within this network, living in a carefully tailored utopia that prides itself in its true equality and freedom to do anything you could want. The 1% of Chrons who do not live in this world, but rather are given physical bodies to interact with the physical world are called Automata and act as the agents of the Collective, carrying out its will such as protecting its borders, interacting with neighboring societies, procuring resources to help with the constant construction and revamping of the computer network on Hope (and maybe soon, beyond their singular world), and practicing the sciences to help better the technology of the Chron and improve their chances of survival.
Survival, it is a core philosophy of the Chron. The first Chron, before their ascension into digital form realized one fact about the galaxy: Resources are finite. Eventually, even in the absolute far future, all life will run out of resources. The Chron seek to prolong sapient life for as long as possible from this existential threat by moving most of the galaxies population from the physical world where they must constantly consume to survive, to the digital world where all of their needs are satisfied with little damage being done to the galaxy. Throughout their history this dream has been interpreted in many different ways, in their early years the Chron were raiders and Imperialists, seeking to force as many individuals into their collective as possible. Yet as their numbers grew, through the purely democratic processes that run their society, the forcefully converted turned the Collective from imperialists to an empathetic society reaching out and convincing others to join them through debate and proving that their way of life is ultimately the best.
Why Should You Play a Chron?:
I believe the Chron are potentially a truly unique species/faction that I hope will bring about some truly unique roleplay. I could write paragraph on paragraph on why I think this is but bullet points of the bigger reasons may be easier.
- Your Vote Matters: The Chron Collective will run purely democratically. Although Chaos requires an admin to run a faction, any decisions will ultimately be left up to you, the participants, the Admin's job will just be carrying out the will of the participants. Although the Chron currently are an empathetic race desiring cooperation and peace, when we get enough members it is entirely possible that if enough people vote in certain ways the Chron may turn back to their Imperialistic ways, or try a whole new path never before tried.
- A Purely Synthetic Race: We're robots. It's pretty simple. This both adds a whole host of new roleplay mechanics for us to play with though. For one, no force users. It'll be a challenge (hopefully a fun one) for us to deal with the force-sensitive empires out there (looking at you SJO and TSE). Your character will be able to draw upon the knowledge of the entire Chron race when connected to the network, meaning you'll have significant advantages over the silly biologicals and their individual memories. Plus you'll be kinda immortal? Every time a Chron dies their memories, personality, and all that is uploaded to a new body to continue on their legacy. These new clones are somewhat different than the original, but its a way to keep living in a way. I should also say here that you will not be obligated to look anything like the Chron in the posts. You are free to make your Chron look however you want, super human (or other biological) like, super droid like, a bunch of nanites buzzing around and being a minor inconvenience, the Chron relish in individuality and we will be just a diverse faction as any other, hopefully, more so.
- A Mission: Unlike many groups here on Chaos, I feel the Chron have a real somewhat important mission: Saving all life. Although the threat of running out of resources is ultimately too far off to ever be covered on Chaos, many things that threaten life are knocking on the doorstep of the galaxy with every post we put out here. Factions, war, famine, etc. One of the things I'd love for the Chron to do is try to establish some kind of galactic UN to try to stop so much conflict and needless loss of life. Could be fun?
