OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
• Intent: To create a stupendously huge command station for Firemane. This station acts as the central hub for the entire mega-corporation. This station is not a military station and must be well supported, but it can hold a titanic amount of resources and facilities.
• Image Source: Here. From Mass Effect 3 game.
• Canon Link: N/A
• Restricted Missions: Firemane has Phrik as it’s ‘signature’ item, allowing it to be used in up to limited. That should suffice for this. ARGH is a subsidiary of Firemane, access to tech here.
• Primary Source: Look based on the Citadel from the Mass Effect series.

STANDARD FEATURES
• Station has 5 ‘arms’ which can open and close like a flower’s petals to completely seal the station from the outside.
• The arms normally take several hours to close, but in an emergency can be closed within half an hour.
• Each of the arms houses districts with populations, commercial interests and storage areas.
• The ‘bottom’ of the station houses the engines and thruster units.
• Station has a population of some 15 million people permanently. This can increase by up to 25% due to visitors, military deployment, etc regularly.
• 6 hypermatter reactors; one for each arm and one for the engines, provide power.
• The bridge is located at the tip of the Presidium arm.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
• Features an Aegis Molecular Shield and 2 x Colossus Reactors.
• Station must be closed in order to enter hyperspace.
• Phrik plating is used on critical locations such as the arm joints, engine couplings, command centres and reactor cores as reinforcement.
• Molecular Furnace for providing fuel and resources. No offensive capacity.
• Can be retrofitted to hold ten times the population at the expense of other functions.
• 3 x Enlightenment Communicators – leading to the flagship, Firemane villa and exploration ship.
• Has several replicators to assist with vital needs.
Strengths:
• Vast. The station is a vast construction, bigger by a factor of four than any current space ship. This, combined with its defences make it exceptionally hard to destroy.
• Shell. Although when open the inner arms have some protection, when the arms are closed into a locked shell it has a massive resilience. The station could take a massive pounding by even the biggest ships in the galaxy and still remain intact.
• Commerce. As the hub of one of the largest companies in the galaxy, the station is a haven for traders, patrons and customers for almost all commodities. Living or trading at the station gives access to massive resources, which in turn benefits Firemane.
• Flak. Though it has no capital weapons, the station has literally tens of thousands of defence guns, creating a storm through which enemy fighters, bombers and boarding ships will find almost impossible to penetrate. All angles are covered.
• Defenders. As well as being the barracks, training and recruiting ground for Firemane, the station has a permanent security force of 100,000 officers, equivalent to police. It also has a force of 25,000 or so regular army troops on rotation from the battlelines garrisoned on board with all their equipment.
Weaknesses:
• Unarmed. The station has no capital grade armaments. It is a civilian station. Likewise, it has no attack craft squadrons – though it can repair damaged craft after a battle.
• Sloth. The station is monumentally slow. Compared even to an Immortal or other dreadnought it is slothful, only a true super-station like the Death Star compares in speed and sluggishness.
• Surprise. If the station were to be attacked with the arms open it takes time to close them. In this time the more vulnerable parts of the station are open to attack especially from capital ships.
• Escort. The station requires constant protection and escort. Most of the Firemane fleet operates near it for this reason. With no capital guns, slow speed and vulnerable civilian populations, it must be supported.
• Security. Though great care it taken to try and exclude ‘undesirables’ from getting on board, it is impossible to wholly prevent this.
Description:

Firemane Industries and Technologies is one of the largest and wealthiest companies in the galaxy, a true megacorporation. However, the company had an issue; location. Though scattered across the galaxy, the company had no fixed, central point by which it might leverage its resources to the wider galaxy.

Thus, the idea of a station had been conceived, originally using the Ashira’s Light over Tygara, but once they outgrew that another was needed. In the end the plans were put forward, and a design created. When Siobhan and Tegaea saw them, they approved the design, but increased it exponentially. When asked for names they came to Arx Aeternae, or Fortress of Eternity, because they had not tempted fate enough it seemed.

Regardless, the station was of simple design. Essentially a tapered pentagonal pyramid, the five sides could open like the petals of a flower. This allowed the arms to see space and the other arms above and to the sides. To one unused to the station it was a very disconcerting sight! When open, the station could receive thousands of ships every day, with each arm having its own unique flavour. These arms are open to ‘space’ but are protected by a powerful force field which keeps atmosphere in. If necessary massive sliding sections can close over areas.

The station itself moved, however slowly, by means of the bottom of the ‘pyramid’ where the engine arrays were located. It is monolithically slow however, moving slower than even most space stations under power. Turning was even slower, relying on thrusters along the arms to turn.

With the arms closed the station is almost impregnable to enemy attack. Even the engines can be covered by sliding plates to protect them, turning the whole station into a vast armoured cigar shaped monster. On the downside though it has no capital weapons to attack enemy cruisers or destroyers, and so requires support. It can wait out most attacks though with its shields, armour and sheer mass. One area it is well provisioned for though is defence guns, of which it has tens of thousands scattered around the inner and outer arms.

The station can carry an uncalculatable amount of cargo both parts and supplies. This allows it to act as a trading hub and as a home for the 15 million residents plus visitors. If needed, and with some reorganisation, the station can hold more than ten times that, and for brief times fifty times more if an evacuation was needed or similar.

Each arm houses an entire cityscape on the inner side. Each of these are called ‘provinces’ and has an area of some 150sqkm, a massive space especially considering there are 5 of them. These provinces are numbered 1-5 starting at the top and proceeding clockwise.
1. Agricultural. The station is almost entirely self-sustaining. In this province food of all types is produced and packaged. One amusing change required was that special habitats for livestock were needed since the sight of the sky and space around them drove them insane.
2. Commercial. Stores, shops and traders of almost every kind can be found here. The only forbidden trades are slaves, illicit drugs and unlicensed weaponry.
3. Presidium. As the ‘bottom’ arm of the station, the Presidium is the most prestigious. This is where the richest and most influential persons live, and also serves as the base and barracks for the military forces. The most upscale boutiques like the Lady’s Haven can be found here. Firemane’s offices and central command network is found here.
4. Residential. The majority of people live in this province. Space is surprisingly plentiful…relatively at least! Except in very rare circumstances, accommodation is rented or leased only, not purchased. Several areas of worship can be found here for major galactic faiths.
5. Industrial. In addition to serving as one of the galaxy’s largest warehouses, this province is home to the manufacturing base of the station. Here space ships of any allowed size can be manufactured along with weapons, vehicles, smaller craft and consumer goods.

Transport between the provinces is handled by either shuttles or through a network of rapid transit trains.
