DESCRIPTION
Overview
The concept of the Argent-class is simple, have a mobile factory that requires no shipping of materials to complete a product. To be able to rapidly produce a piece of technology from raw materials the ship harvests all the way to completion within its hull. This is somewhat limited as the internal configuration of the ship is based on the products it is intended to manufacture. This means that a ship must be dedicated to weapons, armor, vehicles, starfighters, droids upon production, and while modifications can be done to alter their function, it takes time to turn a small arms ship into a ship that produces tanks.

Mining Systems
The ship settles above a world and releases a number of mining booms down to the surface of the planet, to begin raw material mining, while its complement of gas barges seek out the closest source of tibanna gas, or whatever gas is required for the products currently being produced. The booms take several hours to lower down to the surface of an asteroid safely or risk jarring the mining apparatus at the bottom of them and damaging them. Once on the surface the fifty meter by fifty meter platforms take about an hour to set up, extending braces much like an oil rig to brace them against the recoil of the mining weapons in use. The long tethers give them the ability to be place relatively far from each other, but because they must be lowered and braced, a task taking almost eight hours, trying to use them offensively is laughable. However relocating the platforms is fairly easy, only taking about two hours to move a platform from one place to another on the same planetoid. Once these booms reach the surface, they make use of small seismic drivers, batteries of Plasma-Jet Lasers, and other mining equipment to smash the planetoid, asteroid, or other celestial body, so that its banks of heavy tractor beams can lift the rubble, ore, and other raw materials back to the vessel via a pair of conveyor belts. These are limited in that the booms are unshielded and very vulnerable to weapons fire because of the tension of holding fairly large mining platforms. Additionally, the tractor beams are unable to lift massive amounts of debris at a time due to the vast distance from ship to planetoid. As these were never intended nor built for combat, these flaws were deemed acceptable.

Processing Systems
The fore of the ship is dedicated to ore processing and refining, using a pair of small Molecular Furnaces to alter what would otherwise be useless materials into products that can be used to fabricate smaller, non metallic components to be used within the products. These furnaces are small, unable to process materials very quickly, normally resulting in a stock pile within the front cargo bays of the ship, but are not intended as the primary processing systems.

The majority of materials mined by the vessel are heavily refined using older technology, more basic technology such as forges, gas refiners, smelters, and other simple processing systems to handle the vast amount of raw materials that pass through the Argent every day. The ores are processed and prepared for smelting in the massive furnaces of the ship while the useless materials and cheaper, unusable metals are sent into the molecular furnaces.

The metals are formed into sheets of the necessary gauges where the exit the mining and smelting facilities and are sent into the Self Contained Manufacturing Facilities. Additionally, gas processing units are included in the mining systems for the refining and processing of tibanna gas, helium, hydrogen, and other star matter.

Manufacturing Facilities
The middle of the ship is dedicated to manufacturing, building, and constructing products throughout the ship. Its dozens of decks are crisscrossed by conveyor belts, a series of mag-trams, self-contained labor droids throughout the long series of manufacturing decks, and thousands of laborers and technicians operating the machinery. The set up is similar to that of the factories on Geonosis or those contained within a ssi-ruvi manufacturing ship, only on a much larger scale. Its purpose is to match other large scale manufacturing locations while retaining their ability to be mobile and the Argent does this in spades.

Shipping Facilities
Three large docking stations and energy protecting landing pads make up the shipping facilities with the Argent. The port and starboard docking stations are built to connect to the cargo holds of massive bulk freighters to ship huge amounts of cargo at once. The third, dorsal landing area is for smaller light freighters taking smaller orders, or delivering shipments of valuable electronics that are difficult to produce in house.

Strengths:

  • Massive: The ship is huge, and so it is difficult to destroy.
Weaknesses:
  • Limited Functions: The Ship's factories are limited, unable to produce vastly different things at once, limited to either one type of product.
  • Slow and Cumbersome: Advanced or powerful Engines were skipped over for space conservation.
  • Light Defenses: The weapons are very light, even for a civilian craft, and it has light shielding.
