DESCRIPTION

The far-flung Outer Rim Coalition doesn't always have military materiel on hand. It doesn't have lives to waste, either. Droid fighters were the natural conclusion.

Hailing from the trade center of Arcadia-N-30, the Harrier Droid is cheap and expendable. It's also remarkably good at killing things a size or two larger. Good engines and turreted laser cannons allow it to orbit enemies at very close range while pouring in continuous fire. It doesn't need to aim its entire hull at the enemy, a maneuver which would present a stationary target to enemy gunners. Advanced targeting systems help the Harrier win contests of tracking speed and let it stay ahead of enemy guns while pressing the attack.

Common droid fighters aren't normally very good at coordination and awareness. Each Harrier stays aware of its nearby fellows and uses swarm coordination programming modeled on fish, birds, and insects. This programming is independent of jammable comms connectivity: it relies on visual awareness and independent judgment.

So imagine a couple dozen of these swirling around your ship without crashing into each other. Imagine your defense guns manage to peg a few, and the rest just adapt their swarm and keep going. Imagine their turrets can hit you no matter which direction the ships are flying at any given moment. Now imagine they've got hair-trigger reflexes and zero fear.
