Orphen had not had the time to work on much of
his new Alpha class technology, though his skills in robotics seemed
to be advancing, especially when it came to weapons and other arms.
However, though he had been piloting a ship for some time, Orphen
had, over the course of his travels, come to a point of understanding
about exactly what he needed when it came to travelling the galaxy in
this day and age, and the small ship which he was currently residing
in and using to travel was far from enough. Not to mention the
complex feelings he was beginning to get about needing to contribute
far more to the war effort when it came to the many space battles
which were being fought on a daily bases through the universe at the
moment. Brother was being pitted against brother, friend against
friend and father against son in this world of war where the only
thing which seemed to separate one side from the other was the
choices they made when it came to weilding the mystical power which
was at the very fingertips of either side. Though, with the Sith
having recently ended the lives of a whole world, sacrificing its
population and generating a wound in the force itself, large enough
for even his senses to pick up on... the Jedi padawan was becoming
sure that he was on the right side of everything.
But, all of the philosophy was not getting him a
bigger ship any faster, which was where his new master came in, he
had requested some time ago to be able to extend the knowledge of his
Compound Charrik technology and attempt to apply it to capitol ship
class scales. Only recently had he been given the okay by Taeli Raaf,
which made everything move smoothly... though, getting to know the
inside and out of larger ships was a mission... and much of it
involved a lot of reading. The first step was for him to become
intimately familiar with the interior of large ships... how they were
structured and why, and for that, it was simply a matter of looking
through the Holonet for articles on ship building and history on old
military ships. Not to mention small noevlia about ship building and
counselling some of the Engineers from Aurora industries about the
more intimate secrets of the trade, because no matter what you read,
there were simply some things which only experience was able to tell
you. He had figured that out when he had made his D Pattern Gauntlet.
It was only when another person had observed it that he realized,
although it worked, some of his wiring, even though it was practical,
it would have led to his weapon overheating due to theit proximity to
the maser charging tubes... something which he had overlooked in
their development... and he was not about to make that grand level of
mistake when making the ship which would be carting him and those
with him around the galaxy.
Days passed, and he had drafted up more than
just the frame of the ship, with his long time friend who worked in
the field, with her, he continued to prepare the ship which would
sail Orphen across the stars, beginning with its frame on a holo
projector they began to assemble ths ship piece by piece, Orphen
applying his knowledge of sizing down technology as well as
maximising output to the limit of everything while his friend focused
more on her sheer knowledge of parts and what brands were largely the
best to be using. Although Corellia was largely out of the question,
the Aurora industries ion engines were more than a good start, as
well as using durasteel for the hull plating. Though, while the ship
was being assembled, Orphen could not help but think it would be
missing something more important... It was not until his eyes moved
to spoy his wrist that he really quite considered what it was that he
was missing... he had known inherently that any ship he made would no
doubt be using his alpha series AI to pilot it, but, Astromech Droids
by and large were not grand enough to pilot things such as capitol
ships... although they were more than capable of flying a n X-wing or
a bomber and even Jedi Interceptors. An Assault Class Corvette was
something not normally within the scope of their expertise... he was
going to need to upgrade the DCD to a variant capable of being used
by capitol ships... and that was not something which was going to be
easy for the most part.
Leaving his friend to continue her work, Orphen
asked a couple of the more knowledgeable programmers and engineers
around, though not so many that it was going to inhibit any progress.
He had made himself known to many of the workers out of Orphen's own
hub here, and was on friendly terms with many of them, as, he had
shown and open eyed sheer enjoyment from learning from all of them,
with such an energy he supposed it must be uplifting to have someone
value the people here for their knowledge, and truly wish to
assimilate it and learn. The six men that he had gathered began to
brain storm about how A.I. Brains worked in capitol ships, comparing
ships of the modern age to the colossal trade federation mother-ships
of yesteryear. How they employed droid AI projection devices to fuel
their war machine, it was only a matter of time before they managed
to crack codes and move forward with new discoveries. It stood to
reason that if something was projecting an A.I. the ship itself which
was the residence for the projector, would have some of the best
reception, thus, would be more than capable of receiving its own A.I.
through the ships' communications array. Everything was being planned
meticulously down to the last insignificant detail. Using the R-7 A.I
as a base, Orphen was able to select and highlight some key areas for
advancement. First and foremost, was the ability to operate complex
weapon systems and guidence systems which were on capitol class
ships. The sheer fact being that R-7 Units, while intelligent, they
did not have the data for piloting large ships, hooking his own DCD
up to a computer, he was able to download the schematics of key
features of capitol ships one by one, so that the Alpha class A.I.
would be able to recognize and operate the technology which came
passed it.
The next step though, was the hard part, Orphen
had to program logic engines into the A.I. so that it was not only
able to perform the general tasks of the technology, but able to
apply its own logic and reasoning to its use, to be able to react,
and act accordingly based on infinite possibilities and make do.
Basically, he had to code 'thinking' into the A.I. for each of the
components of which it was not already familiar with. The maneuvering
of capitol class ships and larger ships on a whole was vastly
different, the basic turning and banking of smaller ships would not
suffice... Orphen encoded the basic formation data of Aurora
industries ships based on simulations into the A.I. core and
continued to work... Much of the job was copying and pasting commonly
used algorithms and continuing forward piece by piece. Before he knew
it, ten hours had passed and the last of the workers left for the
night and cycled out with the night crew, some of the curious about
what the young Jedi was doing with one of their Quantum computer
mainframes. Looking over to them, Orphen thought it would be as good
a time as any for a break... Working this hard for this long was
thankless over-all. But, this was the first step in creating a
capitol class A.I. for what was to come. The finishing touches would
involve hooking the signal to the communications emitter, through the
same means that you would send files so that it would be able to
broadcast the A.I. to drones and unmanned craft around it, were there
any.
Talking to some of the technicians was always
helpful, some of them had a couple of good ideas, helping Orphen
brainstorm was something which he always appreciated. Knowing that
Aurora industries hired some of the best mechanical talent in the
galaxy, and it was a shame to put any of that vast knowledge to waste
or put on idle when Orphen had the opportunity to absorb every drip
of wisdom from their many experiences that they had to share. So,
milling around with a coffee for a little while he conversed with the
others before they started their shifts. After about half an hour he
made his way back to the computer which was housing his product,
standing there was another of the technicians whom worked on some of
the A.I. in the droids around the area, sitting there, he seemed to
be helping himself to the A.I. Orphen had been developing... Trying
not to get annoyed, Orphen failed a little huffing and asking what he
was doing, trying to make sure he would not be stealing any of his
work.
“Oh, nothing bad, sorry, I just saw the method
you were using to code the A.I. and I thought it was interesting, is
all. I made a couple of quality of life changes though, grouped the
systems and files into systems... kindof a de-frag of sorts. Will
make things easier to access for the A.I. remembering there is a lot
of stuff to go through for larger ships. It can't just be listed in
script like it can for Astromechs.”
Orphen thought to himself, it seemed to make
sense, looking at his work, it was definitely neater, and it seemed
that the man had copied over from another source the basic
information of most fire-arms and missile systems, as well as the
idea for twin targeting computers. Which was another aspect Orphen
had not considered, at first the Jedi had thought that he had
accidentally copied something twice, but, it turned out that one of
them was solely dedicated to offensive target aquisiton while the
other was defensive... smart idea. Orphen offered a thanks to the
man, asking him if he would like to continue to help. Smiling, the
man agreed, and together, they took to work. Everything was going
fine, the two of them talked and checked for each other, rebounding
ideas as the two of them began to immerse themselves into a zen like
state. With fingers of fire Orphen and the older man worked, script
flowing from their fingertips as Orphen took integrating systems into
the Logic of the A.I. while his partner worked on the hardware that
would be needed to accommodate the core.
The worker seemed to be familiar with the DCD
patterns, when asked, he replied with that he had been following
Orphens' designs and thought that they were 'flashy' not sure whether
it was meant as a compliment or something else, Orphen ignored it for
now, as it was not terribly important. Instead he continued with his
work, with his partner beside him he was done relatively quickly,
ending with a final couple of finishing touches before taking
everything and copying it in duplicate within all of his data-pads,
as well as adding it as a file entitled. Alpha Core. To his ship
design and placing its visual image just underneath the lounge of the
ship. That way it would survive a direct attack on the bridge and the
ship would be able to act in a manner to save whatever crew remains.
Sighing loudly, it seemed they had won, an automated ship under the
control of those who had access, in much the same manner as an
astromech droid.
Orphen was proud.
But, over the last couple of weeks he had been
busy. It was time to jump on this opportunity.
