Description: In this day and age it takes a smart man to be able to create new weaponry that is new, unexpected, unpredictable for an opponent. However, it takes a wiser man to realized that life does not always go as planned, and the weapons you make won’t always be your own. Thus with Valik teaching an apprentice Alchemy and the more widespread nature of Alchemy in the galaxy due to Akure Executive Leatherworks Valik decided it best to create a countermeasure for facing items created by Sith Alchemy.
It began with Valik experimenting with Nullification Resin, an old Jedi Shadow formula used to neutralize items that radiated with the Darkside. After realizing that Nullification Resin was only a temporary solution, being costly to produce and only stopping the effects of a Sith Artifact when in direct combat. Useful for storage of dangerous items he supposed, Nullification Resin’s overall intent, but not suitable for pitched combat or long-term neutralization of Sith Artifacts, after all, once an item was taken out of the Resin it returned to it’s former place of power. He did suppose he could have mixed the resin with a sort of adhesive and made a grenade out of it to somewhat rectify the combat weakness but that was too costly and imprecise a method to remain economically feasible. As such Valik decided the solution lied in Alchemy, and finding a way to reverse it quickly.
While Valik was a master at creating alchemical works he had always likened Sith Alchemy to not only a science, but also an art. While it required particular skills in the Force and in Intellect to master, it was also something each crafter put their own personal touch on. Two alchemists could attempt to make the same item but different strokes, different methodologies, different philosophies in how one treated the art made natural differences in two pieces of work. With that in mind Valik decided it best to examine how other’s made alchemical creations. For this Valik decided to find the best alchemical creations he could that weren’t made by him. He managed to get ahold of two masterpieces not made by him in his armor the Contempt made by Ashin Varanin(Obtained a long long time ago, thread was lost in the Purge. Can be verified by Ashin Varanin if necessary), and Daesumnor created by Rave Merril. He also managed to examine two other noteworthy works in Anandi created by Isley Verd, and a Sith Amulet made by Rave Merrill and Kaine Zambrano . An initial analysis was made of each item using Psychometry to nearly instantly determine how each item was created, literally witnessing each item’s creation, feeling the changes in their textures and understanding as an alchemist how it was done and what it meant.
Utilizing the information Valik saw from the construction of multiple alchemical items from multiple alchemists at differing skill levels he was able to sort through the data and determine the common elements between them all, the true building blocks of Alchemy if you will. With this knowledge Valik began crafting Annulment, a Sith Amulet that, when the Force is concentrated into, shot a beam that reversed the Alchemical components of whatever happened to be in front of it. This is typically focused in one of two forms, a five meter wide ‘shotgun’ spray that reaches roughly five meters forward or a more precise meter wide cone that extends up to 25 meters forward.
When the beam encounters a ‘material’ alchemical creation(IE, anything inorganic, such as swords, metal based armor, or amulets) it nullifies the effect of the item, though the item still remains intact. If the beam is sustained on the target for at least ten minutes than the item ‘s effects will become permanently inert.(Though that is not to say the item couldn’t be remade. For example, a Sith Sword that was made a normal sword could be re-Sith Alchemized by a sufficient Alchemist). Anything less than ten minutes and the object will only be rendered temporarily inert, with it’s functions returning in a matter of a few hours, a day at most, with more complex creations(Such as swords with additional effects or Sith Amulets) requiring more time to return to form. However, as in canon the destruction of Muur Talisman was not accomplished by rendering it permanently inert, but rather by simply shattering it into a bunch of pieces. Similarly, should a Sith Alchemized object be destroyed while rendered inert it will not be able to regain it’s normal properties.
On the other hand, when the beam comes into contact with an organic creation(Most often Sithspawn, but also leatherworks created from Sithspawn or wood/plants that has been Sith Alchemized) it will still automatically lose it’s unnatural effects(Such as but not limited to, lightsaber resistance, force resistance, unnatural strength, the ability to emit/spray Sith Poison, the ability to feed off of other’s fear, etc.) but will also cause the item to dissolve, resulting in excruciating and debilitating pain. Like Devaronian Blood Poison this usually prevents said Sithspawn from being able to move, much less retaliate, though extreme willpower or a gift in Crucitorn could allow one enough power to move, perhaps even fight, though such instances would require extreme knowledge/specialization in Crucitorn. While non-living organic material will simply dissolve in time, excessive exposure is invariably lethal towards Sithspawn, killing most within four or five minutes, even the mighty Terentateks falling at the seven minute mark. Ironically enough Annulment’s exposure to Sithspawn is extremely similar to Force Light in it’s causing negation, extreme pain, and lethality, minus temporarily lowering one’s connection to the Force.
It is also noteable that Annulment, while created as a means of neutralizing and destroying powerful objects and creatures, does have a medicinal purpose. Namely, when used on a person infected with Sith Poison, no matter how infected the person is with sith poison, it will destroy the poison but not it’s host, ironically giving the galaxy perhaps the only long term cure to infection via sith poison.
Overall Annulment is a niche item born mostly of paranoia due to the success of Akure Executive Leatherworks, the availability of Teretatek Dusters to the common man, as well as a counter measure to protect Valik incase one of his business partners, the Sith Artifact empowered [member="Jacen Cavill"], decides that he’d rather not be affiliated with the Death Merchant. It is an extremely powerful and complex item that requires extensive and intimate knowledge of Sith Alchemy in order to construct, at a level which only Valik can currently claim to be(Though notably [member="Rave Merrill"] is only a small step behind). That does not mean it is extremely difficult to construct(at least in comparison to most Sith Amulets), and Valik could make another if he so choosed, but with the unique properties of the item and how much havoc it could wreak on his creations he will never create another unless his first is destroyed, and he will never part with Annulment unless he is dead.
Finally, just for further clarification, it should be noted that Annulment only affects items that are created by alchemy(whether directly or indirectly through Sithspawn breeding). It has no effect on Sith/Force based Artifacts created through other methods, such as but not limited to; holocrons, exposure to a Darkside Nexus, manipulation through Art of the Small, Force Imbuement, Jal Shey Enhancement, Jensaarai Attune Armor, Vongshaping, Nightsister Rituals, general Technical Wizardry, etc.
Usage Examples:
These are some examples I’ve decided to tack on the end just to illustrate how Annulment would work on some of the various individual items on the board. It is by no means intended to be comprehensive, but serve as a general guide from which trends can be gathered.
Daesumnor, The Lonesome Gun: The souls trapped within the Daesumnor/Lonesome Gun are permanently destroyed, with no chance of escaping through Transfer Essence, binding to objects, Midi-Chlorian Manipulation, or any other such tomfoolery. The Daesumnor would retain Lightsaber resistance due to being a Force Imbued Blade, though would lose soul trapping properties for duration of being inert, and lose said properties permanently if not kept completely intact during inert phase. The Lonesome gun on the other hand would only have it’s inner workings lightsaber resistant, and would therefore be far more vulnerable to being damaged, and thus losing it’s special properties permanently.
Kaine’s Shuk’orok, Entropy: Both items lose their respective Force draining/stopping effects but retain Lightsaber immunity due to being made of Beskar/Songsteel respectively. If not kept intact during inert phase special properties(Excluding the inherant lightsaber resistance) are lost.
Leviathan Bracers, Cater Coat, Kerrigan Coat]: Become normal, lightsaber cutting through blaster burning through leather, and steadily dissolve through exposure. However, due to the Sithspawn origin of the items they won’t be permanently rendered inert after being cut up while inert.
Anandi, Hearteater: Lose lightsaber resistance but poison effect persists. Loses all special properties if not kept completely intact while inert.
Sergeti, Dauntless: Becomes a simple piece of jewelry/sword with no special qualities. Loses all special properties if not kept intact during inert phase.
Any Sithspawn: Extreme pain, can’t move without extreme willpower, can’t fight without strong usage of Crucitorn. Basically stopping them as if they were being hit by Force Light. Becomes increasingly lethal and permanently damaging upon prolonged exposure.
Sith Poison: Destroys without harming it’s host.
