Strengths:

  • Maritime Discipline: Anjin is emblematic of the Death Trooper and Imperial Authority ideal of iron will and self-control. He orders and compartmentalizes emotion, surrounding it with notions of necessary duty and total honour. Task oriented, total devotion to the completion of the objective.

  • Liquid Zen Approach: Playing into his mental discipline is an appreciation for chaos. There’s order, and then there’s the dominating figures of luck and chance. Anjin can reorganize his tactical and situational approach as required by the moment, uninhibited by constraints of ‘standard practice’ when faced by sudden, inexplicable scenarios.

  • 7th Century’s Complete Fighter: Anjin is a trained Death Trooper. A highly skilled ground fighter. He soldiers with a favoured arsenal of ranged and close-range combat implements, rifles through pistols to hand-to-hand tools, extremely proficient with each and their associated disciplines. Anjin is especially terrifying in close quarters fisticuffs.

Weaknesses:

  • Samurai Disconnect: Civilian and even social mores commonplace amongst troop, officers, and non-combat personnel are beyond him. Anjin is implacable, and has immense difficulty relating to anything outside the IOSC. Even amongst his Platoon and his squad command, it’s marked him as a ‘familiar’ stranger.

  • Stray Dog Syndrome: Anjin depends on his service within the IOSC to give his life meaning. His fortunes are at the mercy of his superiors, and seems unquestioning of given orders or objectives. He seems without guile or ambition beyond his work as Sergeant, enduring nicknames behind his back such as ‘Mutt’ and ‘Bullet Dog’.

Appearance
Tall, trim, and athletic. A hard, long face taut with focus. With a conservative mop of dark hair, cold, brown eyes, and tan complexion.

Biography
Shame and woe cast long reaches into memory. Anjin never knew his father growing up, though his mother, Mariko, lent him his last name to keep. Born to a lowly peasant family at the edge of the Shiroi Gakei, on Asahi, at the end of a string of archipelago islands, the lowly son of a lowly woman birthed into a lowly trade. Their household was provided land to tend, with rice and other yields to ready for taxation, the koku as demanded by their regional daimyo and enforced by his vassal samurai. His status as a half-breed earned childhood derision. Fights with other youth were common. Still, he endured with his mother and a network of aunts and uncles occupying the village, not content to wade through rice paddies but left with little choice but to endure.

The common household legend for his family spoke of a lost royal connection. That ages past, when Asahi warred relentlessly between rival lords, their clan held counsel as hatamoto’s to the powerful ancestors of the Tanaka Shogunate. Through intrigue, their family was manipulated and forced into ignominy to survive their loss of face and defeat. One day, Mariko would tell, one of their blood would shake off their trappings as simple farmers and fishers, and go to Saishi no Aki to confront their hidden enemies.

After his seventeenth birthday, former provocateur and Republic Army Lieutenant Elias Kent reappeared. He cited an agreement made with Mariko over the future of their child: once Anjin reached or was nearing adulthood, the Lieutenant would secret him from Asahi and provide an intergalactic education. Though no love was lost for either, Kent decided on honouring their pact. Anjin was taken abroad, subsequently enlisted in several academic programs at Kent’s urging. A career soldier himself, he depended upon the lessons taught and learned from year soldiering and commanding.

Unexpectedly, the quiet adolescent took to the challenge. He grew, matured, devouring theory and simulation with almost voracious appetite. Versus the humdrum vassalhood of peasant farming, a life he could never wholly connect with or embrace, the strictures of military academics and physical challenges excited his sleeping mind. If his mother’s tales were true, this presented a chance to one day return and put pay to the traitors that had brought their family so low. And if not, it was an opportunity for escape.

Perhaps predictably, he found a calling in the various Remnant movements attempting to resurrect Imperial grandeur of old. The Empire represented a cohesive identity, a strident power guided towards order and unified purpose. It’s stratas of rank and command mirrored the castes of Asahi, and Anjin threw himself into the familiarity gladly. His performance in several combat theatres, dedication, and icy discipline with zen calm and flexibility marked him for advancement to specialized programs.

On furlough on Hypori, restless, caught word of a resurgent Imperial movement gaining traction near Kamino. Gathering as much ident materials as possible on short notice, Anjin travelled for the Mara Corridor and the Rishi muster point. Upon credential reviews, physical and knowledge based examinations testing for familiarization with Imperial army systems, Anjin was formerly inducted into the Stormtrooper programme. Upon completion, with prior experience noted, he was selected for invitation into the IOSC’s various special forces groups. Anjin accepted, enrolling in the latest bout of brutalizing and intensive regimes. Until he stared into an unknown black helm, and disappeared behind the mask of an imposing Death Trooper squadron sergeant.
