Development Thread: none
Hero Unit: No
Manufacturer: Yaga Minor Shipyards
Model: Anemoi-class Corvette
Affiliation: Imperials
Modularity: No
Production: Mass Produced
Material: Durasteel
Description: The Anemoi-class Corvette fulfills the role of an anti-starfighter platform with its many laser cannons, while still retaining the speed to escape larger enemy vessels. Two massive forward-fixed tractor beams are intended to act like netting and catch all starfighters in front of the vessel. The downside is that the tractor beams wide range can also trap friendly starfighters. Intended to be mass-produced, the Anemoi relies on speed to survive encounters with other capital ships.

I am familiar. However, among tech circles it is generally agreed upon that the Lancer sucks. It only has 20 AG-2Gs and is ridiculously slow. The Anemoi is much, much faster due to larger engines and more room for them rather than the 40 troopers and 810 crewman. The Anemoi is almost as long as the Lancer at 180 meters. Not only that, but shielding and speed are limited by technology. I think we can agree that in 800+ years there have been some technological advancements. Furthermore, the specific setup of having four large generators dedicated to shields taking up a whole bunch of room at the front of the starship is detailed in the description. The Lancer also has 810 crewmembers, where as this has 50. If it needs to be upped it can be.

I'm not sure what specifically you'd like to see lowered and why, so if you could clarify that'd be great.

You can make a case for each element, but I think what makes me uncomfortable is that you're trying to do too many things at once. This ship is plausible, but it's as fast as a TIE Bomber, has exceedingly strong shields, and has as few crew as a non-combat-specialized Corvette.

It's a plausible ship, but it's also an advanced and expensive ship, and that would have to be reflected in deployment and production numbers.

EDIT: After taking a solid look at Mon Calamari redundant shields, I don't believe multiple shield generators, huge engines, significant weapons AND enough power generation to support all of it can be packed into a ship this size. Tradeoffs need to be made.

Reduced the speed to class 5. Its weapons systems aren't significant. It just has laser cannons, which use up significantly less power than the capship grade turbolasers of its cousins. It is supposed to be fast and well shielded. That is it. The weapons systems are only enough to take out starfighters. If it tried to take on even a moderately armed corvette like the CR90 it would get wrecked, because its weapons simply wouldn't be able to punch through the shields.

I get that, but it's a concern of making it both significantly tougher and significantly faster than normal, and a weapons load of thirty quad lasers is still drawing a good bit of power.

We're also looking to avoid MGLT, SBD, RU and the other ratings from the games, useful as they can be. It's a level of granularity that doesn't translate well to competing submissions and such, on forums.

With these stats and limitations, quadruple shields just aren't acceptable.
