Would you be happy with me?
One question had started it all, a question with an answer so powerful it cause The Demon of Thyferra to open his heart to a woman that was not like him in anyway. Serephina Deveraux II, an angel, quite literally, had wormed her way inside of the cold, black heart of the Demon. He had known she was engaged, he had even know the kind of ilk her fiance was. Daegon had even gone so far as to expose it thinking that he would save her from a life of misery. Even though it would never be possible that her father would ever see him as one worthy of his daughter, Daegon was committed to her happiness. He could not have known his meddling would bring her name to ruin.
Seraphina was in her garden, a place Daegon would often find her when he made routine visits to see her father. Their business dealings were as such Daegon would not trust anyone else to them. It was a day Daegon would never forget as the usual happy melody which came from the brunette had turned sour, morose, a dower sound. He knew what caused it, and while he had no right to approach her, oh had she known it was his fault. Daegon knew the answer to the question would have been much different then.
There was only one thing which Daegon ever concerned himself with since the answer, and that was the happiness of his Angel.
Her answer set events into motion which saw Daegon win her hand. It was old fashioned, even a little quaint. It was something out of a storybook. A tournament was held to determine the next suitor for Seraphina, one which Daegon had won under a guise of his own making. He was nobility of his own right, but Daegon knew her father would have never approved, so the man did what he had to do in order to win the hand of the one person loved.
They were married shortly after, her dowry used as to help fund the construction of their new home on Thyferra, Heaven's Gate. This was to be her home, and every part of it spoke to the heavenly origin of the mythical angels. Seraphina was actually an angel, and it had been meant to reflect her. There was only one place which did not, and that was the dark chambers of Daegon Corvinus. The chateau came with separate rooms for the couple, a common living space between them. He would never presume upon her. Despite being wed, the two had yet to consummate the marriage. Daegon did not expect that she love him yet, nor was he certain whether she was truly happy or not.
"And these are your quarters," Daegon said as he finished the tour of the home he had built for them. "Mine are across the way if ever you need to find me. They are much too dark for your tastes I am sure. You are pleased with the home then, yes?"
He waited for an answer as the light colored eyes washed over the form of his bride with such curiosity. One thing Daegon was not an expert in was the ways of a woman and their home. Much of what he offered had been things he hoped she liked, but the decorations and the rest, it had been guess work based on what he knew of Seraphina. Yes, he ran the risk of seeming to be overenthusiastic, like someone that had been watching from afar for far longer than what was acceptable. Yet, Daegon did not care. Sera was worth the risk. She was not just an angel, she was HIS angel. Everything had to be perfect.
"It is my sincerest hope that you will be happy here. I will spend my life seeing that you are if that is what it takes. Your happiness will always be my most precious promise to you."
