Private An unfortunate happenstance

The Chìlóng had smelt blood in the water.

Sitting on her command throne, Chi Hue Yam looked out of the tinted Transparisteel windows of the CR90s bridge. She had to admit, that whoever was piloting the XS stock light freighter was skilled. Despite having been cornered in an asteroid belt, the smuggler's ship had managed to break out of her cordon and even managed to badly damage one of her ships bad enough it had to drop out of the hyperspace chase, leaving her ship the only one in pursuit.

The Pirate Duchess leaned forward, stroking her chin with her lanky fingers. Perhaps she was being led into a trap? No, or at the very least so unlikely she had better odds of making Kessel Run in eleven parsecs. The XS' breakout may have been the result of skill but said skill had only been enabled by the most improbable luck, cascading system error causing her turbolasers to fail at the last moment as they locked onto the prey's engines. If anybody had been betting on such luck drawing her in the first place, they were either the most Bantha-brained creature in the Galaxy or so intelligent that she had lost the game the moment she was born.

Whatever the case this was already a messy fiasco that Yam wanted to wrap up quickly. If it hadn't been for the XS's immensely valuable cargo she would have written this off as another failed rate, it happens, and broken off the chase a long time ago.

"Ma'am, we're detecting that the target has begun to exit hyperspace." A Naval Ensign, dressed in a stark red and gold uniform called out. Her flagship's personnel was quite unlike what one would assume a ramshackle pirate crew to be, dressed in clean uniforms and displaying impressive discipline in all aspects. Despite the complicated maneuvers they had been forced to pull in hyperspace they remained calm and orderly, repeated naval drills having long scourged out any defects. They may have been exiled, condemned, and forced to turn to Piracy but they were still Corellian.

"Exit behind it and prepare the engines for full burn. Run another round of checks on the starboard battery. The last thing I want is for it to malfunction at the last moment again."

"Yes ma'am!"

As the stars became solid once more, the Chìlóng erupted into real space once more and in mere seconds began to hound the stricken Freighter.

But little did they know, another predator had caught onto the scent of blood.
