Name: Amaya

Image: #1 and #2 is Star Wars concept art by Ralph McQuarrie, #3 and #4 is from Warframe.

Classification: Temple, Training Center, Research Station

Location: Bogan, Tython System

Affiliation: Independent

Population:

Not including the droid maintainers, the current population hovers around 500 individuals, about half made up of rotating personnel from Panacea. The rest are mostly made up of researchers and tourists. The temple can comfortably house a population of up to 5,000.

Defenses:

The temple is guarded by a battalion of war droids, currently modeled after elite Sith Warbots from schematics provided by a passing Sith Lord. They are equipped with an ever updating loadout of ranged and melee weapons, including limited access to weapons from Panacea and Kiribian Systems Armory.

Stasis field generators are integrated into walls all over the interior, as are arrays of Nihil smoke stones with oscillators that produce the psionic equivalent of white noise to induce nausea and hysteria. Sections of the temple can be cordoned off with magnetically sealed blast doors.

The temple mainframe is protected its own generated encryption, and socketguards. Recently, during a series of upgrades, Mithril was integrated into the core operating system to improve defenses against modern forms of cyber attack.

Interestingly, these defense only pose a threat when the temple itself is attacked or interfere with its mission of instruction. Otherwise, visitors are free to go about their business. This was an intentional design choice by builders as they wished to see individuals learn to engage in conflict resolution among themselves.

On the surface is a theater shield housed within the pyramids to provide protection from orbital bombardment.

Panacea maintains its own security detail for its personnel. Due to its proximity to Tython, Kiribi can quickly deploy additional forces to reinforce this detail in times of crisis. Spacy units patrolling the Deep Core can reach the Tython system within a matter of minutes.

Description

Amaya is a large subterranean temple complex built in heavily forested region of Bogan, constructed by the original Je’daii Order. Following the decline of the Je’daii, the temple fell out of use and went abandoned for millennia, largely vacant aside from small bands of dutiful maintainer droids, and curious explorers who popped in every now and then. Currently the temple now hosts new occupants as the Tython system was liberated from the last vestiges of the One Sith. Scholars and students from various Force-based organizations across the galaxy now frequent the recovered temple, wishing to expand their comprehension of the Dark Side, an often misunderstood aspect of the Force.

History

Amaya was originally built as a housing complex for Je’daii members who had fallen out of alignment with the Force in favor of Ashla (Light). It was later expanded into a center for instruction, masters offering optional courses for Je’daii to supplement their self-mediation sessions on the path to obtain equilibrium.

The point of the courses was to help Je’daii members allay anxieties about embracing traits associated with Bogan (Dark). Rather than attempt resist or suppress negative emotions - as commonly preached by Jedi and other Light Side extremists today - the energy from these dark impulses should be channeled into into productive pursuits to the benefits of themselves and those around them. Acceptance, rather than denial, was the key to mastering the darkness within. From envy for a neighbor’s higher status, one may gain inspiration for self-improvement. From anger from being wronged, one may receive the focus and motivation to seek positive change. From greed for more and/or better possessions, one may be driven towards innovation in their efforts to obtain them. In short, rather than being a source of ruin, the Dark Side could be a powerful engine for creativity and development.

It was stressed that these pursuits could be carried out without automatically resorting to violence. Conflict is the way of the universe and unavoidable, as the world is one of competing passions, but there was no requirement for said conflicts to result in physical altercations. If one so chose, obstacles could be overcome without shedding a single ounce of blood.

Lessons were taught through a combination of standard lectures, but also through scenario based training involving the use of mediation chambers to induce hallucinations much like the Cave of Evil, which drew upon the dark powers of Bogan to weave their fantastical and horrific illusions, managed by the temple’s data centers through the use of neurotransmitters constructed from smoke stones.

Over time, the individual teachings of the many masters who passed through the halls of Amaya over the ages were compiled into a large holocron known as Ilta, an interactive program that would later be integrated into the temple’s main frame, so that they would be available for anyone to study for all time, in addition to other knowledge related to the Dark Side. Later, as with the decline of the Je’daii, Ilta also took on the task of maintaining the temple through the control of self-replicating droids.

Following the abandonment of Bogan by the Je’daii and Tythan settlers, and rise of the Jedi and Sith Orders on Ossus and Korriban, respectively, knowledge of the temple almost became lost to history. Post Ruusan, the original Jedi Order played a part in censoring knowledge about Amaya’s existence, ironically out of fear that visitation may lead to a fall to the Dark Side. The handfuls of visitors individuals from various Force traditions, be it Jedi, Jensaarai, Dathomiri Witches, etc., who typically subscribed to concept of the Unifying Force and actively sought out Amaya to continue their studies. One such visitor would be Suravi Teigra, shortly following her leave from the Jedi Order during the dark ages. As they finished their studies, they would often leave their own inputs within Amaya’s holocron, and developments from the greater galaxy, helping to create an ever expanding repository.

The curriculum offered by Ilta gradually grew more sophisticated to address the evolving concerns of students throughout the ages. Effective governance, warfare, ethics, identity, technological singularity, the very nature of the Force. No topic was off limits for discussion (or exploration within the meditation chambers). Some students came to become better combatants against the dark arts of the Sith and other Dark Side groups who had appeared after the Je’daii.

Knowledge about Amaya continued to be very limited until after the collapse of the One Sith Empire, where expeditions of Jedi and other organizations revisited the Tython system for exploration and a mission to restore balance to Tython. Following notes left by her estranged mother, Ciana Teigra dispatched a team from Panacea to Bogan to uncover the temple, hungry for its data stores. When the team found the temple, they established a small research station within its confines with the encouragement of Ilta.

Other scientists from Kiribi, coming from a strong tradition of centuries worth of practicing alchemy, descended upon the site to conduct their own research while also enriching Amaya with contributions their own unique developments in the discipline.

As the community grew, the publicity they generated attracted scientists and Force Users from across the galaxy seeking knowledge. While no organization controls access to the temple (Ilta would not allow it), the Panacea Corporation and Teigra Foundation provide free shelter and supplies for all visitors regardless of background.

Intent: Create a cool new Dark Side spot for development, and make a location for future adventures with my characters.

Good morning, [member="Ciana Teigra"]. I'll be your judge for today!

I really do love your choice of images. Had a feeling those were from Warframe. That said, when we ask for image sources, we need a direct link to where you found them, please! I do personally enjoy the concept art for the Sith Temple used at the top: that one's always been gorgeous!

The Stasis Field Generators are an interesting touch, but those are usually used in prisons to keep the population unconscious (since stasis is designed to keep the body functional but inert!). Was that your intention with adding these, or were you looking for something more equivalent to Ray Shields? Also, the Warbots: modelled after but not using the exact model might require a Factory submission, particularly since the weapons loadout has changed from their default. Worth checking with the Factory!

Now the big red flag comes from reading the history: the description of Ilta smacks of Artificial Intelligence (since it maintains control of Temple maintenance), along with the quotes "with the encouragement of Ilta" and "Ilta would not allow it": that would come up against our Restricted Materials list. I have a feeling that's not what you intended, but that's how I read it. Could that be clarified a little more?

Other than that, this is a very interesting submission. Please do clarify the AI thing: I'd hate to have to deny this one, because it's pretty good other than that part. If you've done the appropriate development (1000 word-minimum thesis on the AI's design), then it's fine, but if not, we either need modifications or have to move for denial, which I'd rather not do! Let me know which side of the fence you're sitting on, and we'll move forward. Thanks for your time!

Okay, [member="Ciana Teigra"], this one's been sitting for nearly two weeks. If you would like the submission to proceed, please let us know and we'll remove it from the Archives for further modification.
